Re: TV: The Golden Era Reborn

Sharknado 5. Please God, why?!?!?

Because

Nevertheless, it gives away little to note that like prior sequels, "Sharknado 5" optimistically plants the seeds for a sixth installment. While the math might still work for Syfy, far from going out in a Hindenburg-like blaze, the finish that eventually awaits Fin and company will likely come from old age and boredom, followed by a "What were we thinking?" segment in CNN's eventual documentary "The 2010s."

Salvation.

3 eps in. The science is fun, everything else is toilet paper. I FF 45 of every 60 minutes.

Bachelorette had a kind of weird ending, where the obvious keeper only got the bronze. I'd say he'll be the next Bachelor but he's black and the ratings were terrible with the Trump brood sows in flyover country.

Meanwhile they are pimping Bachelor in Paradise hard and using the rape allegation exactly how'd you expect: as prurient interest.

The highlight was the Juan Pablo announcement getting no applause.

Re: TV: The Golden Era Reborn

This is an excellent analysis of the final Bachelorette episode. I urge all those who relentlessly mock the franchise to read it. Not that the show is not worthy to be mocked. Oh, it is, more than you know. But because all the naive mockery completely misses the point. The Rachel - Peter post-game was one of the brief instants of honesty the show, entirely despite itself, often delivers. Those moments are fascinating and worth all the rest of the silliness (which can just be watched for fun, anyway).

The new DuckTales is fantastic. The jokes, the Easter eggs, the hidden gags, Donald. So good.

Re: TV: The Golden Era Reborn

20 years ago today, South Park began with "Cartman Gets An Anal Probe."

"Ike, do your impersonation of David Caruso's career!"

I'd have sworn it started later in the year. I remember inviting some rightwing friends over to see it after what I thought was only a few episodes. The episode they saw? Of course: Mr. Hankey.

They Were Not Amused.

Edit: turns out that was episode 9.

In all honesty, I feel like the show is far more than 20 years old. The rot they pointed out has accelerated.

Not having cable, I wasn't aware of it until a couple months in. I remember getting a VHS tape from a friend that he had taped a bunch of the initial episodes on.

Re: TV: The Golden Era Reborn

My wife and I just returned from our wedding/honeymoon in Thailand and watched EP1 together. I've rarely seen her laugh so hard at something on TV.

We celebrate #20 tomorrow. :)

Re: TV: The Golden Era Reborn

finally finished the last 8 episodes of 24-the president today. the maggie q fight scene was a stretch. seems like the 2nd season was set up to be 24 redux with the cliffhanging end. not so sure it's worth a view from mookie when it starts up again.

Re: TV: The Golden Era Reborn

Watching season 4 of the Last Ship. Episode two and I see a rack of Tim Hortons coffees on the Nathan James :D
