I thought I heard this next season was going to be the last for House anyway.

It is, which is a bit of a mercy killing. I gave up on the show, but have been watching the last few OnDemand, and it has devolved into a terrible soap opera. The good news is that David Shore is coming back to handle the final season, which means it has some solid potential.

I've also been watching the show Breakout Kings, which has been surprisingly good. It's pretty formulaic, and not exactly ground-breaking television, but an enjoyable 40 minutes of TV.

Is anybody else watching Game of Thrones?

I didn't at first, but then a few weeks ago caught up with the first three episodes one Saturday or Sunday afternoon that HBO ran them on, and fell in love with it. I figured it was gonna be another Tudors or Borgias period piece, but its amazing. And I love the little sword girl Arya, while hating her older sister immensely.

Would love to see more of the northern wall and the environs beyond, but I assume that's coming. The first episode teaser set there was maybe the best part of the series so far. And Peter Dinklage deserves an Emmy for this.

As for the Event, and why they need to clear space on Earth, I thought they mentioned that the deteriorating sun had irradiated their planet, probably to eventual lethal levels.

Breaking Bad Season 3 on pre-sale on Amazon. Think I didn't? July 17th (Season 4 premiere) can't come soon enough.

And wow did the X-Files overdo the "sorta slo-mo" shot in their episodes. Never realized it until now. Started from the beginning, hope to watch an ep a day (or more). Great show. It's weird knowing how it all ends up, but still being enthralled with the story arc.

This is correct. You could see the planet was deteriorating when they showed it next to the Earth.

Agreed on pretty much all counts, except I thought the scene where the Mountain decapitated his horse was the awesomest thing ever. Also, yesterday on another board I saw someone describe the two advisors as "Evil Cameron Frye and Uncle Fester" and I thought that was hilarious.

Yeah, lovin' it. Because of HBO's proclivities my wife calls it "Game of Boobies." The opening credits sequence should get some sort of animation award, it's beautiful.

We were really disappointed with The Borgias. Great material but so very, very stupid. It made The Tudors look intelligent.

Our cable provider just picked up BBCA, so we are watching two episodes of Top Gear a night. It's the best show on television by far.

Yeah, the opening credits are terrific.

I'm recording the Gettysburg special on History that just started. It looks really well done, I just don't feel like watching it right now.

I don't want to watch a Ridley Scott Gettysburg...it will not be anywhere near as good as the Turner one.

First of all, the **** is history doing on the History channel?!

Second of all, I think it's just okay so far.

I find it interesting that they're talking to a lot of "historians" about Gettysburg that don't possess doctorates, especially considering that Gettysburg College has plenty of individuals with the credentials to speak about it.

It sounds like this isn't the best show to watch for the story. The Mpls Star Trib tv guy was talking it up, and I completely forgot about it. Looks like I may not have to look for a rerun.

It's basically a summation of what the History Channel has done to its staff. There's some good research based history going on, but with seemingly some creative liberties being taken. You can tell they're attempting to display their fancy action sequences with a greater emphasis than the actual history behind it.

So, it's more like Spike's "The Deadliest Warrior" (which I liked, but took it for what it was) than an actual historic program?

No I'd say it's more fact-derived; some of the small story lines are bullcrap, but the overall battle-based stuff is historically accurate.

Well, the weapons and how they used them were fact-derived. But the action sequences (most notably the "final battle") were ludicrous at best in Deadliest Warrior.

True. The thing I learned in doing research in school using primary and secondary source documents is that you can't jump to conclusions (and passing them as facts) by simply mimicking the past. The short stories they've been using do this.
