TV 5: Cliffhangers and Intros!

Re: TV 5: Cliffhangers and Intros!

Actually from the little I got to see of the latest Doctor before I had to give up cable, they were doing major recycling of all the past stories - the Daleks, Cybermen, etc. I first watched it with Tennant after seeing him on a Top Gear episode. Definitely the biggest charmer of the modern 3. Later got to see all of the first guy, if one of the earliest episodes of his incarnation had been my intro, probably wouldn't have watched another episode, but once I got hooked by Tennant I still enjoyed most of those. A lot of the outer characters are the same throughout the various Doctors. The storylines continue between Doctors (I assume going back to the early ones, but have never watched them).

Re: TV 5: Cliffhangers and Intros!

What's the deal with Dr. Who? Does the Doctor change every season? Does the chick change every season? I watched the first season of the rebooted series on Sci-Fi, and it was all right but not great. But whenever I hear about the series, it seems like a new Dr., and I get the feeling that whatever happened in the prior season means absolutely nothing to the current one. I can see some benefit to that, being able to just drop a stinker of a storyline with the start of a new season.

The Doctor is a Time Lord and can regenerate when he's close to dying. He takes a different form and different personality. Each Time Lord has 12 regenerations for a total of 13 bodies. We are on 11 (Matt Smith). He can change twice more, but I'm sure the writers can work around it.

The idea of regeneration came when William Hartnell (1st Doctor) wanted to leave, BBC execs were afraid the show was going to end. The decided to cast Patrick Troughton and have the Doctor change form. He was successful enough that regenerations were used whenever an actor wanted to leave the role.

Comments on my recent TV watching

Just finished the first 2 season of Breaking Bad on disc. really good show looking forward to when Season 3 comes out.

Finished watching the latest Season of Dexter. Very good though I wonder how much longer they are going to be able to keep coming up with plotlines for the show.

Also just finished watching The Pacific which was fantastic not quite as good as Band of Brothers but pretty close, a little tough to follow the night scenes.

I just finished the first two episodes of the series. This thing could get interesting. I kind of hope he kills his sister at some point. Debbie annoys me, the dumb *.

For those of you that are fans of the Olympics:

Universal Sports will be airing Bud Greenspan's documentaries each night, Jan 1st - 9th... They are calling it "9 Days of Glory", in honor of the late filmmaker... Last night they were showed his film about Calgary and tonight they showed Lillihammer... Tomorrow, the 1996 Atlanta games...

This is Olympic storytelling at it's finest... Check it out if you can...

Finally finished watching Spartacus: Blood and Sand via Netflix instant. First of all, love Viva Bianca. :D Second, holy ending, I'm curious where the second season would go. Unfortunately, Andy Whitfield has cancer and the second season is on hold. Hopefully, he pulls through.

Four of the six numbers from tonight's $335 million NY Lottery Megamillions jackpot were the Lost numbers. 4 - 8 - 15 - 27 - 47 - 42. I found that a bit amusing.

Re: TV 5: Cliffhangers and Intros!

Jim Carrey hosts SNL tonight, so that could be the first good episode of the season, or will they waste yet another quality host with 10 TV show skits and Gilly? Also, last time he hosted we got Soundgarden as the musical guest, whereas tonight we get to hear that Black Keys song for the billionth ****ing time.

The Black Keys have a song getting a lot of play on the radio? It's not in my media market. Of course, our alt rock station got turned into "Love105," which sucks something fierce.

I like the Black Keys' new album. I saw them in concert a couple years ago, opening for the Black Crowes, and have been paying attention to them since then.

When Drive 105 went the way of the dinosaurs, that was the end of my time listening to music for the most part. I sadly switched over to sports and never turned back. We really don't have any good alternative stations anymore. I remember when KDWB used to play a lot of great alternative back in the early 90s.

Re: TV 5: Cliffhangers and Intros!

Is anyone planning to watch The Cape tonight? Not sure if I'm going to. It maybe a game time decision.

Re: TV 5: Cliffhangers and Intros!

A friend just posted this on Facebook.

ABC Fall promo from the 1980s. Check it out. I laughed for about 10 minutes and watched a second time to try and pick out all the stars in it. Can you imagine network stars doing something like this today?? Enjoy!
