TV 19 - Simpsons Did It

TIL people think the Jetsons and Flintstones take place at different times.

I have always assumed they take place at the same time in the future. The Jetsons are the managerial class and the Flintstones are the working class. They have become so separated they don't even know of the existence of each other.

That "argument" has been around for at least a decade, iirc. However, wasn't there a Jetson's episode in which the kid is actually watching a "rerun" of the Flintstones?

There was a film in the 80s called "The Jetsons Meet the Flintstones" where because of time travel the Jetsons end up in the past and the Flintstones in the future. They absolutely do not exist in the same time. Once again the old man is trying to find hidden meaning in things he likes but is ashamed to admit he likes so he has to make it sound deeper ;^) :^p

The Flintstones is supposed to The Honeymooners. The Jetsons is closer to something like Donna Reed or other 1950s family sitcoms iirc.

edit: Morey Amsterdam was the original George Jetson but was replaced after 1 episode.

Topic - so I posted a month or so ago about how much I wasn't liking the new iteration of Law & Order. While it is getting a little better, it's still...not good. I think it's the writing. The actors are all talented but they're not cutting it for me. Especially Hugh Dancy as the Exec ADA. And I totally get that it's my blinding love for Linus Roache and missing him in that role that is probably the reason but I just think he's poorly cast, he's very twitchy and I think he's having a hard time not speaking in his British accent. That being said, the last (live) episode, there was a scene where Camryn Manheim was walking with Hugh Dancy and the new female ADA and they were walking in the District Attorney's office hallway. In the background on the wall was one of those directories. I saw a post on Reddit that it showed both Michael Cutter's name (Linus Roache's character) and Connie Rubirosa's name (Alana de le Garza's character). I screenshotted it.

Now, I'm wondering if it's an Easter egg and the two of them might make an appearance at some point (HIGHLY doubtful but not necessarily out of the question) or, more likely, that when they were rebuilding the sets for the reboot, that directory was pulled out of storage and hung up on the wall by some crew member that didn't work on the original series and didn't think there are crazy fans out there that notice this stuff. If it is the latter, how does that stuff even happen? Seriously, it would super easy to update it. Someone on that crew had to have either worked on the original show or watched it and knows the names.

TIL The Jetsons only ran for one season in the 60s. Two more seasons in the 80s, but that’s impressive for a show to stick around in the collective memory and still be referenced and known today that was only around for such a small period of time.

Yes I'm sure that's what a mainstream 1960s sitcom was going for.

Oh, I wasn't saying that -- who cares what they were going for? I was saying what the real meaning was -- that's just inside my head, independent of what the creators thought they were doing.

Next you'll tell me the authors of the Bible knew they were writing comedy.

BTW, I saw comments by the showrunner and writers of Killing Eve about their finale, and it is apparent to me that everything subtle or interesting in my theories about it came from me, not them. They're morons. So now the implosion of West World makes sense. The other Nolan is an idiot, too. He happened to luck into one season of a show that inspired me to create a great narrative.

I know this is gonna get me in trouble because I know at least 3 people around here love the show...I find Killing Eve overrated and often boring. I like Villanelle as a character, but the entire storyarch is just ridiculously dumb. I am going to finish it because, well, the girlfriend wants to but I can tell she didn't much like it on rewatch either. (we just started the final season which she hasn't watched yet) If The Twelve was half as powerful as the show pretends they are every character would have been dead by the end of episode 3...and most by the end of the premiere. I can suspend disbelief as much as anyone but I just can't with the show.

I watched the show like a Marvel movie -- it's half action-drama, half tongue-in-cheek. In fact Villanelle herself talks and acts towards this self-commentary. A lot.

When I started poking around I was amazed at how strongly the audience skews towards Mary Sues unironically trumpeting her as a Lesbian Feminist. As if I Kissed A Girl hasn't been a hackneyed corporate Hollywood trope for 30 years already. I suspected for a while that the writers were making fun of Undergrad Third Wave Dyke Power but after reading comments by the show creators now I just think they were milking the low-hanging fruit. Selling trucks nuts to rednecks. (That's how you do metonymy, kids.)

I liked the show because:

(1) Jesus fuck, Jodie Comer.
(2) Carolyn and Konstantin
(3) The clothes
(4) The locations
(5) The weird, creative murders (really only the first couple seasons)

For that I was even willing to tolerate Sandra Oh.

A warning about the last season: if you thought the show was overwritten and self-important oh man you are NOT going to like the last season. :-)

Yeah the first episode of the season had me rolling my eyes in laughter. My girlfriend honestly wasn't really even paying attention by the end...I am going to full on hate watch this because I can smell the lame ending coming. It is trying to be way too clever...and really the only charming thing about it was how unclever it really was. (and how people thought that made it actually clever in some weird way)

I get the feeling this just works better as a book or novella or whatever it was. I think if the assassin was a male character people would not like the show nearly as much but since Jodie Comer is just outstanding people ignore the just awful storytelling and stupid predictable plot. Outside of Comer and Fiona Shaw (half the time) I honestly wish every character was killed off especially Eve who I just want to throw off a building half the time and I actually like Sandra Oh. In fact if her and Konstantin never showed up again I might actually start liking the show.

I will say, the murders and scenery were nice the first season or so...then they just got lame with it. And dont get me started on the "Will They/Won't They" BS between Eve and Villanelle...

Killing eve started going downhill once PWB left as showrunner. So after season 1. The only episode I really liked in 3 was the one where villanelle went to Russia to see her family.

could barely stand eve this last season. But konstantins laugh was probably what I’ll miss most

S1 was amazing. S2 was fine. S3 was awful. S4 was really uneven.

We’ll see if the “GMA curse” continues for Mattea on Jeopardy. She was on today. James, Matt, and Amy didn’t go on for a Good Morning America interview until their final few games were about to air.
