TV 10: Blacklisted Sons: The Musical

Re: TV 10: Blacklisted Sons: The Musical

I mean, that's kinda what Seinfeld was in the beginning, just that if people had seen him before it was most likely just five minutes here or there on the talk show circuit. Now you can watch every tour a comedian has been on if you have access to Netflix or Youtube.

I was about to ask if there are even that many shows filmed in front of a studio audience, because it seems like Two and a Half Men and Big Bang Theory would make it obsolete with the laugh track they throw on there, but apparently those are filmed in front of an audience. Which now makes me sad that real people are laughing at it.

I was more annoyed that they really took the life out of the jokes when they acted them out. Everything was paced so quickly to jam as much 'comedy' into the show as possible. Hopefully it was just a pilot thing where they wanted every other line to be a joke to sell.

If they do a really long, well paced take on the Tom Jones bit, that would be gold. And I'm assuming that'll show up this season.

On the other side of the coin, Brooklyn 99 just keeps getting better.

Re: TV 10: Blacklisted Sons: The Musical

Finally watched the first two Gotham's. Pretty good, I'll keep it on the docket.

Tried out "Forever" on ABC and it just doesn't cut it for me. Not enough there.

Re: TV 10: Blacklisted Sons: The Musical

Please keep giving it a try. I need somebody to talk to about it. :)

*raises hand*

I like it. I don't love it. I think I like it mostly because of the lead. He's really charming. That said, it's pretty much a Castle redux.

I gave four new sitcoms a chance:

Selfie
Manhattan Love Story
Bad Judge
A to Z

I will not be recording any of them any more, they're all pretty bad. Out of the four, I actually liked A to Z the most. Not enough to continue though. I do plan to watch Marry Me next week as I love Casey Wilson and it looks pretty funny. I have been watching black-ish. It's OK. I may continue that because it's on right after Modern Family.

The Good Wife has been excellent. I actually like Madam Secretary even though I'm sure it's totally implausible. It's well done so I can give the implausibility a pass. I recorded Homeland last night, haven't watched. I will also be recording that new Showtime show that will debut Sunday - The Affair, I think it's called.

Was The Mentalist cancelled??? Or will it come back in January?

Mentalist wasn't cancelled. No clue on return.

Good Wife has been the best show on TV this season. Phenomenal.

There was a similar show on Fox (?) maybe 5+ years ago. Only thing I can remember about it was the main character kept taking photos of the same spot in Manhattan each year. It lasted 1/2 season and was dumped.

I hope Forever succeeds.

Re: TV 10: Blacklisted Sons: The Musical

This is now the second time in three years that I have started watching an old show, and within 6 months, they announce a reboot. Too bad it's going to be on Showtime.

That's why God invented Netflix.

I'm not sure they can truly "reboot" TP. The thing about it was it was strange and off-beat and dead pan in a time when shows were direct and literal. Problem is, now EVERY show tries to be strange and off-beat and dead pan. The way to do a show as subversive of the norm as TP originally was would be to do it completely straight and sincere, with absolutely zero irony or snark or easy (and after 15 years, boring) "it's obscure so it must be profound." That would unsettle people.

Re: TV 10: Blacklisted Sons: The Musical

Good, if it's the Twin Peaks of season one.

Bad if it's the Twin Peaks of season 2.

Even better if it features guest appearances by James Roday and Dule Hill.

Given that it's only going to be 9 episodes, I think this stands a chance of being good - no room to drag things out.

Re: TV 10: Blacklisted Sons: The Musical

That is good. Episode limits are your friend (see, original sale run of Heroes).

See the current trend of 5-7 seasons (depends on how you define "season" of course *cough* BB/Mad Men) for the better shows out there.

Or American Horror Story/True Detective.

Don't be How I Met Your Mother or Friends. It rarely ends well.
