Re: TV 10: Blacklisted Sons: The Musical

Fair enough. I actually meant "Marvel" as a generic synonym for the entire industry, like "Kotex." But corrected below.

Honest question: among fans, what's the difference? Is it philosophical / aesthetic? It is Disney vs Pixar?

They're very different. I don't know how to explain it. Could write a novel I suppose, but it's just very different. While DC has some good things going on the TV front, Marvel is destroying them on the large screen.

Please try; I am genuinely curious, particularly about the "comedia dell'arte" way in which all the surrounding roles are always the same. That's not necessarily a weakness -- there are plenty of genres (westerns, RomComs, telenovela, etc) where the stock characters are the course and the leads are the cars. Do Marvel and DC do this differently? Is it WWE vs WCW? Do they play off (or even acknowledge) each other?

Just watch and enjoy or not, extraneous analysis be dammed. It's not rocket cinema.

Kepler,

The question cant be covered here. It used to be major philosophical stuff but now it is all the same. Comics is dying because of it it too.

As for what they are doing in live action I prefer TV over movies anyways. :)

Most of DC's heroes date back farther than Marvel so the origins tend to be more generic. (Batman and Superman are 75 years old)

DC's heroes are more a pantheon of Gods (or they used to be) and Marvel's heroes were more grounded and street level. (this is over-simplification because you could write books about this stuff and they have) Now all of them are jerkoffs and almost unrecognizable.

Honestly, if you really want to see the last time they were truly different and written well, read the 4 part comic "JLA/Avengers". There is a part where the heroes switch universes and you see how different things are. After that it went down hill fast though as both companies started killing off everyone and just making a mess.

Your question is hard to answer cause every ten years things get completely screwed up. Marvel is now more like their movies (I will leave my opinion of that out of this) and DC is basically embracing Batman as their deal. (not a fan of that either) That is why characters like The Flash are my faves these days, they are happy to be heroes and save people for the greater good, not to feed their own egos.

As I find myself saying a lot these days...we all have different tastes so just enjoy what you enjoy for whatever reasons you enjoy them :)

Watchmen and V were Alan Moore before he completely lost his mind :/

HBO announced they'll sell standalone service to broadband only customers starting next year. One more notch against the cable companies (yes, I know most of them are also broadband providers).

Watching Mia and Me, an insane kids' show that makes me feel like I'm on drugs. There's elves/fairies and flower eating unicorns that speak in horse whinnying that everyone else understands.
