tUMD @ UMTC: Last time we played in MPLS tDome didn't have a roof!

Re: tUMD @ UMTC: Last time we played in MPLS tDome didn't have a roof!

For 2 periods tonight we saw hard work play to a tie with skill. Which isn't to say UMD didn't display any skill. Their PP looked strong all game and they skated well all night. But if you look at the goals scored through 2 periods, MN scored some nice skill-goals while UMD had to get their noses a bit dirty for a couple of theirs.
Thankfully, MN came out with a bit more purpose in the 3rd. And thank god, as tonight is a night to make up a little ground on St. Cloud and try to make this championship race a little more interesting, and maybe jump ahead of UND as well.

Hopefully we see a full 60 minutes tomorrow and MN leaving nothing to chance.
And another CC win.

Re: tUMD @ UMTC: Last time we played in MPLS tDome didn't have a roof!

I really hope we continue to see Budish skating with that line.
Haula had 2 goals without Budish on his line tonight. Granted, his first came from Budish (on the pk) and his second wasn't very attributable to his linemates, but I think he has the ability to consistently score goals without Zach Budish out there. Warning scored for that line as well (without Budish).

Let that "2nd" line score their goals, and keep Budish with Rau and Bjugstad so that those two can be as effective as they are capable of.

Also, I may have missed it, but any word on why Ambroz wasn't out there tonight? I thought Michaelson played pretty well in his stead, so I'm not complaining too much. That semi-breakaway was handled very well, and he was a nice piece of some of that 4th line forechecking pressure we saw.
But Ambroz had a goal on Sunday and a pretty darn good game from what I could tell, so I was a little surprised that he wasn't dressed.

He's got an upper body injury from last Sunday. Ambroz is as tough as nails, so it's most likely a very painful injury. The report indicated he got the injury (ribs...the kind that only hurts when you breathe ;)), went back out on the next a shift anyway and scored. I liked his hustle as well last Sunday. Not sure if he'll be back for tonight's tilt or not.

Re: tUMD @ UMTC: Last time we played in MPLS tDome didn't have a roof!

Ambroz left the ice and walked all the way out last Sunday during the first period. He later came back and scored in the third. It looked like a shoulder issue with the way he was carrying his arm. Regardess, they probably figured he couldn't hurt it worse by playing the rest of that game, then for this tilt against a lower-half team decided to give him rest.

Re: tUMD @ UMTC: Last time we played in MPLS tDome didn't have a roof!

I still don't think that first goal went over the line. There probably wasn't a good enough replay to overturn it. Oh well. You cannot get outshot like that in 3rd and expect to win. Good performance out of UMD but (not surprisingly) it wasn't enough.

Had about half a dozen people here (representing 5 WCHA teams; it was like a mini-Final Five tailgate!) and we all had no idea until one of the last replays. That replay was from the front and to the right, facing the net, slightly raised angle. You could see just a sliver of white. Before that replay, we were pretty split on whether it was a goal or not.

I can't disagree with that. I don't think the replay really was clear. However, one thing the announcers never even mentioned during each time the replay was shown is the puck got knocked all the way in right after McNeely pulled it away from the goal line. It looked to me on the replay that it went in before the net got knocked off the pegs. We'll never know but maybe the referees counted the goal because of that. I guess we'd have to ask the refs or Coach Sandelin if he was given an explanation by the refs. Of course, it could be pure speculation on my part because it was called a goal on the ice. The replays we saw was not enough to overturn it if we're only considering whether or not it crossed the line before McNeely pulled it back. Either way, I believe the right call was made.

I noticed that too. If that is what they consider the goal, Haula had a hattrick.

Re: tUMD @ UMTC: Last time we played in MPLS tDome didn't have a roof!

Once again, Condon was flying all game. Also, I like the way Isaackson's been improving through the year. He did some of his dangling last night, but what I really noticed was his play along the boards, out-muscling guys for pucks a few times. Could be turning into a decent power-forward. Also, Bjugs had a little more of a chip on his shoulder, bouncing bodies around and taking it to the net a couple times when I thought he was going to drop it back. Maybe's he's been reading my posts and listening to some of the others who say he needs to start plowing his way to the net more.

Yeah, saw that too. Looked like it was all the way over on that replay. On the over head it was really hard to tell.

Hopefully tDogs come out hungry tonight and get things done. Wasn't too happy about the 3rd period (story of the season).

On the FSN replay from the highlights website I couldn't tell for sure until the very last one from center ice that makes it pretty clear. The overhead sure didn't look good, but the seam was right there, so it was hard to be sure, that last look they gave right before it was announced as a good goal was the clincher to me. What I don't know is if they have access to all angles, or just the overhead. If it is just the overhead they see, my guess is that the call on the ice stood because the video was inconclusive

Until that last replay, that was kind of our thinking of what the call was going to be, too, despite are personal opinions on whether it was a goal or not.

2 minutes for getting punched in the face.
No penalty for getting murdered on interference.

Yeah, how angry do you think I am?

NOT saying it cost MN that extra point. They had their chances. But Don Adam? So glad you are nowhere near us next year.
