Re: TRP: Will Wh*re for Pancakes

So, bbdl, do I have a standing house-gathering invite once I live in MN? ;)

/95% sure she will be living in Duluth soon.

Chez Rube is usually open for hockey nights. It's been sparse this season, but that will change after the new year, I think.

Of course you do. I have a spare bedroom that is very rarely used, you're free to use it if you want to come down for any get togethers. Or if you need a place to crash down here for whatever.

Nice! You're going to love going for runs on the lakefront. Little bit more fun than South Range.

I freaking hope so. I've taken to zig-zagging through the streets here, and it's boring as hell.

Awesome!!

Again, awesome!!

I'm kind of really excited at this idea. I've always like the idea of Minnesota, even long before FM I was toying with moving that way.

Re: TRP: Will Wh*re for Pancakes

Why are you moving?

Also, how far is Duluth from the Twin Cities?

About 2-2.5 hours north of The Twin Cities. Pretty easy drive, actually. It's similar to Houghton in a couple ways (monstrous hills and old old buildings). Also, the North Shore is gorgeous in summer (shore of Lake Superior, starting about 20 minutes north of Duluth, in a town called Two Harbors).

Technically it starts in Duluth :p

Love the North Shore; waterfalls, cliffs, and light houses. So much different than anywhere in MN.

Only about an hour and 45 minutes from here. I did it in two hours in the snow storm of the tech-umd weekend.

North shore is indeed awesome, I love that area.

Diva, wise choice in wanting to come to MN. I haven't found anywhere i'd rather live. Alaska has come the closest.

I still miss the HOD, though. :(

Walking along Chester Creek was always fun, too.

And bbdl, that's because you live in the middle of nowhere.

And it is still only a 20 minute drive to work. I look at the view out of my back window and I wouldn't want to live anywhere in the city. I'll post the view when I can get a pic.

I like my quiet 20 minutes from anything location (10 minutes from work). I'll take your kind of place when I'm retired.

When I'm retired I'm not living within an hour of the city. Actually, I will probably end up within 5 miles of where I grew up. I actually could see myself retiring from engineering at about age 40 and moving home to the farm and becoming the stereotypical farmer that can't quit farming.

I'd love to end up about 1/2 hour outside Two Harbors, in the forest. There's some CCC roads up there, and neighbors are usually 2-3 miles away. Completely peaceful.

Re: TRP: Will Wh*re for Pancakes

Made an offer on a house tonight. Wish me luck. I gave a pretty solid offer plus put down $5,000 in earnest money so it's a pretty aggressive offer. I should know tomorrow afternoon if they are willing to talk. I'm excited to finally own a home. It's a bit big (5 beds, 2,400 ft^2) but I figure if I live there long enough, everything will find a use one way or another.

Any of you New Yorkers been to the Bowery Ballroom in Manhattan? I'm going to a show there next Saturday.

Yes. Good venue. No-frills and old and kinda dingy, but not in a bad way (IMO). Reviews that mention the sound system all say it's good.
