Mookie, like all leaving the country now, had to have a negative test before even getting to the gate. One has to download an app and let a bar code reader see your uploaded results to pass to get to immigration.

Came back from a week in Mallorca on Saturday. It's considered a high risk area by Germany, so had to have a mandatory test after landing and received results in about 12 hours. Did my 2nd free test within the 72 hour window of returning and was also negative with results in under 12 hours as well.

Heading to Tallinn and Riga for about 36 hours each in a couple of weeks. Any suggestions on the two cities?

Rumors are that some of the current travel restrictions to Thailand will be slightly eased starting in October in varying degrees:

-Thai passport holders (my wife included) no restrictions but 14-day quarantine depending upon previous travel
-Non-Thais - can enter only if staying for 90+ days and again 14-day quarantine depending upon previous travel

This is not yet confirmed. How this likely impacts our annual trek in December during the kid's D-term is we don't even yet know if they will have a full D-term since the school year started later than normal. The family could do the 90-day stay as their school is 100% virtual, but if they have to do a 14-day quarantine then the decision is made more difficult.

My work would likely allow me to leave for 90-days as I could accomplish everything I do away from the office but getting someone to watch the dog for 90 days is likely a non starter.

Many more restaurants open in Heathrow than last time mookie passed..... which is ironic as the uk is in stage 4 or whatnot here and the board has tons of cancellations up.

During the midde of all the mandates in MN, apparently MSP airport does not have a mask mandate in place, and people can belly up to the bar without social distancing. My BIL and his wife were there, on their way to Florida in mid-October (MEA weekend for the Minnesotans). And they own a bar, so they were especially observant of this fact, and it's made them very anti-Walz the past few weeks even though they weren't so much like that before then.

That is a really weird exemption. It is a common misconception that everything behind security at the airport is strictly federal jurisdiction. In reality, the "sterile area" is subject to the same state and local laws/executive orders as almost everywhere else in the US.

The argument that I've heard used is that if you are behind security in an airport, you really don't have another option for eating. It's not like you could go to a grocery store, then go home and prepare a meal.

Now, that doesn't really excuse keeping the bar portion of those places open. Do it like everywhere else, "take out" only.

We also have the situation in Minnesota where the casino bars and restaurants are also open. That may be a different situation, under tribe jurisdiction and all, but as far as I know Walz has not made any attempt to get them to comply.

I discovered playing Crusader Kings how many mountains there are in Spain. Before I thought of it as Classy Mexico.

only need to silence one person in the quiet room in the doh airport. south asian dude on the phone :^[
mookie gets up and pleads “sir, this IS a guilt room. PLEASE”. Dude apologizes and leaves.
arrive kwi and show Wuhan results, still have to be “pulled” for random Wuhan swab again (still neg)

now just the waiting. mookie has 6 bags of chili flavored Fritos in one of the checked.
