Travel 4: All Around the World Same Song

Qevin and republicans agreed to shut down FAA here over debt ceiling.

Plan travel wisely . Republicans love Americans!

This is going to backfire spectacularly on republicans. Americans who aren't liberal by and large just want to be left alone. The majority don't give a fuck about the debt ceiling. They just want to do what they've always been able to do. If you start shutting down services, grounding flights, whatever, you're starting to wade well into the danger zone of the apolitical crowd. That's a bad idea.

So, on one hand, I get leave Alaska for a week. Yay.

On the other hand, I’m going to Northern Alberta (Wood Buffalo/Fort McMurray). Which is like a lateral move at best.

You've gotta hit the Oil Sands Discovery Centre and let us know what that's like.

I’ll mostly be working the entire time I’m there, I’m going as a futsal referee for the Arctic Winter Games and the schedule is packed, so I doubt I’ll have much time for sightseeing.

I did put in to attend the opening ceremony but it is a) outside and b) the temperature looks to be well below zero Fahrenheit so I may pass.

Good news is I’m flying charter so no long itinerary. I also may have tipped off an Alberta based YouTube plane spotter that a rare Alaska Airlines 737 will be making an appearance (and an Air Greenland A330).

Be careful, my friend.

I know FL is full of the *worst*. But, I've really enjoyed living close to so many entertainment options to this point (Orlando).

Plus the winter weather is pretty spectacular.

Going to hit up Doha this weekend

Never made it to Doha. If you haven't yet I'd recommend Muscat and Marrakech, and if you can take a trip on the Nile to/from Alexandria. I enjoyed my time in Manama but it's not really worth a stop when you have Dubai or even Abu Dhabi in range. Too bad Beirut is such a mess because when I visited it was a jewel.

You have a good life. What are the cities you have visited? And is it always with your work?

not been to muscat nor marrakech. mookie wants to had to morocco. only been to cairo while in egypt, but also wants to see more there. also want to go see petra (perhaps try to do that in may). oldest boy who came along got to go to beirut with a school trip and enjoyed it. former colleague was from there and had family there when the dock explosion went off. terrible.

kepler,
we are looking to head to cannes, monaco, then paris in june. also doing 2 1/2 weeks in thailand in april. wanted to make up the madrid and barca in feb over national day, but mookie needs a trip bypass which will probably be next month so won't be able to travel :-( dammit.
also going to look to move on with a new job starting in july. carefree travel will change sadly. going to miss qatar and the quick global connections.

Jesus H Christ way to bury the lede! :-(

Be okay, my friend. Full recovery and back to your amber waves of, um, grain before long.

All the Drs make this sound quite common. Mookie didn’t know that I’m the medical term for this is “cabbage” for example. They would talk amongst themselves saying stuff like “he needs cabbage” or “he is going to get cabbage” :-0
surgeon confided risk rates are 1-4%, whatever that means… not like mookie has ever hit powerball.
only drawback is since it’s being done here, Mookie’s heirs won’t be able to sue the hospital for $$$,$$$,$$$ if anything goes wrong.
do love that the operation will be done at Chest Diseases Hospital:-)

Sorry I didn't pick up on what you meant when said bypass. Good luck my man and keep us posted. Did you schedule this at a US accredited resort/hospital in Thailand?
