Tournament Speculation Thread

Here we go again with their mighty OOC record. He was meaning because both teams normally play a defensive style, not the run and gun you see from Oswegos, Norwich and Plattsburghs. Not saying they are "no good", just the defensive style is not normally a fun game to watch.

I don't know if I would define Plattsburgh as 'run and gun'...

1 Oswego State 22-2-2 22-2-2
2 Norwich 17-2-2 21-2-2
3 Amherst 20-3-1 21-3-1
4 Plattsburgh State 18-4-4 18-4-4
5 Elmira 15-8-3 15-8-3
6 Bowdoin 16-5-3 16-5-3
7 Neumann 14-7-3 15-7-3

15 Buffalo State 12-11-1 13-12-2
WEST
1 St. Norbert 16-5-5 16-5-5
2 Gustavus Adolp. 15-6-5 15-6-5
3 Wisconsin-SP 14-10-4 14-10-4
4 St. Scholastica 15-8-5 15-8-5
5 St. Thomas (MN) 18-4-2 18-5-2
6 St. Olaf 13-8-6 13-8-6
7 Wisconsin-RF 16-9-2 16-9-2

It looks as though they are clearly setting up an 8/3 split/. Also, as I've said a couple of times, it seems like they are trying to get two NESCAC teams in there. I think another RNK win for Bowdoin and Neumann, and we will see both of them leapfrog Elmira.

That may happen, but we will never see it!!

if St. Norbert loses though do they steal a Pool C bid?

Me thinks yes.

I agree, which would give us many options, but I think the most likely would be:

EAST
1 Oswego
2 Norwich
3 Amherst
4 Plattsburgh
5 Elmira
6 Wentworth
7 Plymouth

WEST
1 St. Norbert
2 Gustavus Adolphus
3 UWSP
4 Adrian

Play-in:
Elmira @ Adrian
UWSP @ GA
Plymouth @ Wentworth

Quarters:
Elmira/Adrian @ Oswego
Plymouth/Wentworth @ Norwich
UWSP/GA @ SNC
Plattsburgh @ Amherst

I think they would keep Elmira and Adrian together, so that it's guaranteed no flights in the quarters. However, I still think Neumann will win and jump Bowdoin and Elmira.

Re: Tournament Speculation Thread

I don't know if I would define Plattsburgh as 'run and gun'...

Really because the 4th most average SOG team out of all the ranked teams must get a lot of their shots from the defensive zone?
Top 5
Oswego - 39.8
Bowdoin - 37.7
Elmira - 37.4
Plattsburgh - 37.0
Williams - 33.9

Now if you want to go 'run and gun THAT SCORE' I can agree with your arguement. Plattsburgh is 2nd to last in goals/per shot ahead of only Middlebury
Norwich - 6.96 shots
Castleton - 7.23
Utica - 7.71
Oswego - 8.34
Plattsburgh - 10.95
Middlebury - 12.38  And us Cardinal fans thought we had it bad

Fact of the matter is Plattsburgh can skate up and down with anyone, they just can't finish. They get the chances and shots, just can't bury it like an Oswego or Norwich can.
They are also 3rd in differential
Top 5
Oswego +14.4
Norwich +14.2
Plattsburgh +10.7
Bowdoin +10.2
Elmira +9.7

Maybe 2, if Gustavus Adolphus also loses and the NC$$ wants to save enough $'s.
If they really wanted to save or make some $$$ they coukd always flip flop Amherst and Plattsburgh for a more potential Norwich/Oswego/Plattsburgh Ff ;-)

But Id rather be playing in Amherst as my boys have a big 100 lap indoor race Sunday at the Dunkn Donut Center 90 miles away in Prov RI!!!

All true and valid points. I certainly think Platty can skate with anyone and beat anyone on a given night. While the numbers you put up certainly favor your argument, when I think Platty, I don't think run and gun. I think of a strong defense first philosophy coupled with a cycle the puck and control time of possession mentality.

Just my two cents.

Sometimes that mentality causes them to forget they are on a power play :(

Re: Tournament Speculation Thread

Under what scenario, if any, does University of Saint Thomas have of getting a Pool C bid? St Olaf wins as does St Norberts? and then they are ranked in the top three again? Thanks

Re: Tournament Speculation Thread

Buffalo State getting ranked puts Plattsburgh in a great position to steal the #3 spot away should the Cards beat Oswego and Amherst lose. Even if Amherst wins the NESCAC I could still see Plattsburgh jumping with a win over Oswego.

Plus, the NCAA looking at potential revenue would probably the love the prospects of A: having Plattsburgh host a Quarterfinal game over Amherst where they will surely draw atleast double maybe even triple the crowd and B: The prospect of having Plattsburgh in Placid.
