Tournament Speculation Thread

Hobart won't get a pool C bid unless some serious collapses happen. You are forgetting that there are two NESCAC teams and CSC, not to mention Elmira who are ahead of them in both the regional rankings and uscho rankings still after this week(assuming Elmira doesn't drop that far). That's not including any west teams. With Bowdoin playing Midd. this coming weekend one of those two teams has a good chance to dethrone Amherst in the finals and even if they don't the winner of that game will have the best chance at a pool C bid given the regional rankings. Oh, and Hobart isn't even in the top 15 in the USCHO poll. But anything can happen so who knows.

USCHO means NOTHING and ranking will change this week....relax

If Hobart wins this weekend I guess we'll see.

Did you think a 16-12 UW-Superior team was gonna get in last season?

Hobart vs. Adrian in a play in game with the winner facing Oswego would be a neat, tidy little package for the NCAA. And actually, if Hobart were to beat Neumann, they would NOT benefit from any "serious collapses." Just the opposite.

Re: Tournament Speculation Thread

gotta say Hobart vs Neumann sounds like a boring game... but they are 2 good teams who I think after reading on these boards play a similar type style..

Re: Tournament Speculation Thread

OK then does anyone know where to watch it at NCAA.com....This certainly peeked my interest!
The NCAA.com D3 Hockey home page will have the link - that's the way it worked for yesterday's basketball selection show, which was short, sweet and to the point....in fact, it was so short and sweet, I would have saved the money and just posted the bracket....zzzzzzzzzz

Re: Tournament Speculation Thread

Not sure if you've seen many ECAC West games, but they are typically far from boring. Also, Neumann and Hobart have a combined record of 22-5 against teams outside their conference....so that "boring" style of hockey is pretty effective.

Here we go again with their mighty OOC record. He was meaning because both teams normally play a defensive style, not the run and gun you see from Oswegos, Norwich and Plattsburghs. Not saying they are "no good", just the defensive style is not normally a fun game to watch.

Re: Tournament Speculation Thread

Obviously we'll find out more today when the rankings come out, but I think the ECAC-W is only going to get one team in... max. I think we'll see the rankings heading in that direction today. Of course, I could be way off.

LOL, didnt say anything about it NOT being effective,I just know Hobart plays the trap game and neumann is not a high fly'in team .....the end

Ya nailed it Remy

After Plattsburgh knocks off Oswego and Castleton downs Norwich...yes then they will get one team in max. The Wests SOS will carry them, period. Thats the way they work..however skewed it is. The West was 5-1-2 against the NESCAC. I don't remember the numbers off my head, but Id love to see the breakdown. Norm? Matt? Webb? Prof?

Good to see we still have a sense of humor on these boards:D

I agree that only one ECAC-W will get in and I think there is a chance none will get in. Big question is if they select one will it be Elmira or the winner of the Nuemann/Hobart game. Hobart was not on the radar in the USCHO poll this year, but if they win the ECAC-W tourney they will have had a good run late in the year and a solid 16-win record (with a tough SOS).

Nuemann also has a solid record (against a similar SOS) and is an impressive 12-1 OOC...but will winning their conference tourney be enough to overcome a losing regular-season record within that same conference?

A. USCHO means nothing
B. Look at the NCAA ranking numbers...

OK then - should I put my tail between my legs and go away?

I love watching a run and gun game as much as the next guy, but I don't agree that tight checking games are boring to watch. Didn't mean to touch a nerve referencing OOC records or SOS...

I agree USCHO means nothing at tourney time -should have wrote "Hobart was not on the radar this year".

Some years the NCAA rankings don't seem to line up perfectly with who gets selected on Sunday night. Without seeing this week's rankings, I imagine that would be the case this year should Hobart/Neumann win their tourney and get selected.

We can usually infer what the rankings were when the selections and seeding are done. It becomes a little harder when some leagues don't have any ranked teams, but still get to swim in Pool A.

Re: Tournament Speculation Thread

Ok, the new NCAA poll is released! This is where it gets nuts. Middlebury #4, Plattsburgh #5!! Plattsburgh shut out Midd twice 0-0 and 7-0 @ Middlebury!! This is one I really do not get. http://www.ncaa.com/rankings/icehockey-men/d3 AND IT IS PROBABLY BECAUSE THEY HAVE THE WOMENS RANKINGS ON THE MENS PAGE!!
