Top Chef Las Vegas

Re: Top Chef Las Vegas

I don't like that show because of the judges.

That one older white hair guy gets really p/o'ed if the other 2 don't agree with him.

I like Shanchez, Murphy and Frietag as the judges. The others are too big of jerks. It's a tight timed contest (30 minutes at most), but they expect perfection, which to me is unreasonalble given the crazy ingredients the chefs get stuck with.

Re: Top Chef Las Vegas

Don't remember how Bryan and Michael V did. One could have been in the top 4.

They were both in the "lukewarm middle." Bryan's was kind of boring while Michael's made the "boobs" parody. Bryan's restaurant is just a few miles from where I live (in the middle of a slowly gentrifying redneck town -- very weird), and the V Bros went to my daughters' HS rival -- this is great that he's on the show. :)

I noticed the high number of huge tats, too -- the ****wit percentage seems to be steadily rising. I expect it on the other reality shows, where the contestants are basically talentless bozos, but not on one of the few (maybe the only other than Project Runway) where they actually have jobs.

The thing I like about the time limit is what amazing and creative things they can produce in only a few minutes.

The brothers certainly did well this week.

Sad to see Eve go; she seemed like she would be fun to watch. Some people just don't work well with the rules and constraints of this competition.

I really find these "cook for a few hundred people" events boring at times, especially when everyone makes a spoonful of food. And then so little time is spent showing them prepare the food.

With so many contestants early on, you don't see much cooking at all. They generally show upcoming best and worst cooking more.

And of course we had to have the gay angles as well. They could eliminate that and show 3 more minutes of cooking.

I don't mind the angle so much, but get over it already. Yes, imho you should be able to marry imho but come on.

Hector, regardless of whether or not he will win, is extremely likeable.

Bummer to see Eve go given some of her connections here, but either she or the chick with pierced lip had to go based upon their performances up until then.

The guy with the beard (one of the pickle boys) looks like a front-runner, but remember what happened two seasons ago to Richard.

Re: Top Chef Las Vegas

Ash didn't really say anything about the marriage issue that was shown, but I enjoyed his contribution of making fun of the fact that he apparently had to take care of the flowers since he's gay. Straight men just can't keep plants alive. :)

From the guy with the Lutheran Evangelical signature line
I'm not religious and don't have any problem with gays and lesbians, but I still was annoyed by all of the conversations about that last episode. Show some more cooking, especially in an episode that, IMO, seemed to really lack much actually cooking footage. As far as I care, it doesn't matter if the contestant is gay or straight, as long as they put out some great food.

Re: Top Chef Las Vegas

Finally watched last night. Brutal. But Eve did tell us that the whole situation really threw her off. And knowing the pressure of the show, and sort of knowing her temperment, well...

Still, for those of you coming to Detroit next spring, I encourage you to come to AA, and visit Eve, the restaurant. Her food is quite good.

Onward and upward for the show. The brothers are paying WAY to much attention to each other, but it sure seems as if it's kind of working. I still think they need to concentrate on THEIR own food vs. anyone else.

The guys seem like a pretty strong group, don't they?

Will have to admit the boys out cooked the girls this week. jen c still seemed to be one of the best.

Sorry to say your restauranteur didn't show well. I'll take your word her skills just didn't translate on TV, but I wouldn't order shrimp there.:p

I'd root for her more if she would just pronounce cevichE correctly. it's a Spanish word, so the E counts!!!!!

We are going to have to stop by sometime- in one of the lead up articles in local papers, she mentioned another local restaurant, one that would be Italian and Cuban.... Need to remind her that we can get pretty close with Puerto Rican.

I agree. Show more food and fewer side issues, no matter if it's a gay issue or a brother issue. Project Runway, which is 90% gays/lesbians, doesn't push the issue at all, and I like to watch that too. In fact, it's always fun to figure who is straight and who isn't. It doesn't matter in the end, just show me food or interesting clothing.

Re: Top Chef Las Vegas

Now that was an entertaining episode. We actually got to watch people cook!

Michael I.'s temper is going to cost him eventually.

The quickfire next week will be interesting. Does that mean they're going to eliminate two people next week?

Re: Top Chef Las Vegas

I want to punch that guy in the face SO BAD.

I'm glad Preeti went home. She really annoyed me.

So far I'm really liking Kevin, Jennifer C, and the Voltaggio brothers. Next week should be interesting.
.

Except for maybe the Preeti thing. I saw her as more of a non-factor than anything.
