Top Chef--All Stars

Re: Top Chef--All Stars

Mike's a cheater.

I totally forgot about that. What a ****ty thing he did, stealing chicken oysters idea. I would never have considered using another competitor's recipe that I gleaned off him in the competetion. Richard did the right thing and didn't say anything during tasting. And yes, Paula Deen as a judge? I'd Grover, Elmo and the Cookie Monster over her.

Re: Top Chef--All Stars

The advantage with the ROKU box is being able to watch MLB.tv on your tv, tap into Amazon.com on Demand on TV, and have Hulu Plus and Netflix. Haven't decided if it's worth that route or worth just going Netflix through the Wii and Hulu plus on the computer. We're at 70/month now with DishNetwork.

I have a desktop hooked up to my HDTV through an HDMI vid-card where i can stream netflix, hulu, centerice, and anything i acquire in a legal manner and it's great. i also can surf the net or play games on a 55 inch screen if i want to. It's a nice setup, costs a bit more than the ROKU box, but if you already have a good desktop, an HDMI vid card isn't much more than the box.

Re: Top Chef--All Stars

I fully agree that we are in a one and done tournament now- mess up enough, and you are gone. And we know the show is edited in an infuriated way to make us think there is closer competition. I hate that, since it brings into question the integrity of the judges- which is a bad thing. Once enough fans think the show is fixed based on what is shown to us, the less that will watch.
Yeah, it's totally ridiculous that we have to read the judges' blogs to figure out why the same mistake made by two competitors on different weeks sent only one of them home (the too much salt problem). If you only go by what you see, you'd think the judges are inconsistent at best or are rigging the competition at worst. Rather than doing a bunch of gimmicky edits to create fake drama, I'd rather see some more footage of the judges discussing the dishes. We're getting a very watered-down version of their discussions.

Rimmy, don't kid yourself - you have that hookup through your tv so you can watch youporn on a 55" screen. :p

Wow, d-bag move by Padma there: "Richard, please pack your knives... you're going to the Bahamas".

By the looks of it, all five delivered the goods in this challenge - Antonia won (and got a Highlander for a prize...not bad).

Either Carla or Tiffany will be sent home. Will update this at work if nobody else posts in the meantime.

No one goes home; everyone through to the Red Baron Final Five. Haven't checked Tom's blog or anything but from the comments that aired it seems pretty legitimate. None of the dishes seemed to give the judges much of a reason to send anyone packing. Have to like seeing some high quality food rolling out at this point in the game. I did enjoy them bringing in the family members and this point as well and thought the chefs' representations of the theme were all pretty solid.

Re: Top Chef--All Stars

The comment Richard's wife made during tasting was amusing considering the outcome. Wife: "Have you ever had a Final Five?" Tom: "I don't believe we have."

Re: Top Chef--All Stars

Interesting that given how well all 5 did this week, the previews (yeah, I know - editing) at least give the impression that a few chefs will not do nearly as well next week.

Padma in a bikini means we'll all be doing well next week. :p

Re: Top Chef--All Stars

Nope... only Carla was eliminated for undercooking her meat.

It defies all logic - Tiffany has reached the final four.

If you can't be the best, just don't be the worst.

Richard and Antonia were the only 2 of the final 4 that I would ever have predicted.

Re: Top Chef--All Stars

Her time had come! Tiffany finally got the PPYKAG!

Richard, Antonia, and Mikey. Most surprised by Mikey--abrasive personna? Yes. But he has made major progress in his skill set.

I thought Mikey was always a strong chef (slight consistency problems), but he was just out classed by the Brothers Voltaggio, the Pork King, and Lady Seafood, all of whom would have been able to win any other season of TC.

That season was loaded. With any luck, future seasons will match it, but I'm not holding my breath. Plus they'd probably just **** all over the talent by making them prep vending machine food. :p

Re: Top Chef--All Stars

That single bite cookoff was dumb. What if Mike's last supper was aweful, and Antonia's was very close to Richard's, but in the cookoff, Mike eeks by Antonia? I'd give more creedence to the last supper meal made over a number of hours than the single bite cookoff made in 45 minutes. I think they were playing with fire on that one.

We wondered the same thing. Would they have changed what was in the envelope? Who knows.

I also am still puzzled why they brought 5 people to the Bahamas if they were only going to have 2 in the finals. I feel like this season has started to drag here at the end. The food hasn't looked as amazing and the judges seem to be mailing it in a bit. Disappointing end (so far) to a disappointing season.

(edit - read recently that Sam Talbot - Season 2 - was supposed to be on this season, but he just opened his first restaurant and ended up not being able to make it to the filming.)

Re: Top Chef--All Stars

My guess is the envelope would not have materialized if there was a clear-cut 3rd place finisher between Mike and Antonia. As for the finish, remember that all of the 5 finalists were rated highly their first matchup and next week looks like there were be some exquisite cooking.

Re: Top Chef--All Stars

There wasn't a clearcut winner even *with* the envelope (they split 4-3 on the one bite cook-off).

I'd favor Richard in the finale, provided he doesn't over-think anything.

So you think they would have edited that out entirely?
