Top Chef--All Stars

Re: Top Chef--All Stars

Got around to reading Tony and Tom's blogs. Loved their explanations of the decisions. Tony was particularly eloquent this week (even if it in his usual, somewhat abrasive, style).

Looking forward to tonight's challenge, though I've forgotten what the set up was.

That style is why Bourdain is awesome. :)

Re: Top Chef--All Stars

I need to watch the last 2 episodes. I"m ****ed that Jen got kicked because of her attitude after a challenge where none of the chefs had a good amount of sleep. I'd be real cranky too if I was on the losing side of a challenge after having next to no sleep.

Jen got kicked off because she had the worse dish of the losing team...by far.

Yep, that's what happened. I was surpirsed how vocal she was this time around. What you say doesn't help you, it's what you put on the plate.

Re: Top Chef--All Stars

The holday break is over and starts with a bit of a surprise with Casey getting the PPYKAGH. But I must stay the chicken feet looked dreadful  Can't imagine why you would want to eat one.

In the winners selection, Angelo had a smirk on his face like he was already celebrating victory. Guess What? Dale was the winner. Good for him.

I was so wanting Jamie to get the boot, but at least her food was edible. Casey did not make it clear how her chicken feet were to be cooked, a huge mistake.

Angelo and Dale were the favorites, I was not surprised Dale won, though the shrimp toast may have been the best thing.

Re: Top Chef--All Stars

think of them as a fast way to thin the herd. Otherwise, they are being used to make the show more interesting, since it forces them to 'play' together.
It's certainly a less than ideal way to compare the contestants, but it also creates a lot of drama with the inevitable back-stabbing / interference / throwing people under the bus when dishes fail. Per Bourdain's blog, next week's episode should be interesting as he helped design the challenge.

Re: Top Chef--All Stars

Richard won the Restaurant Wars challenge. Dale has been coming on strong and won Bourdain's designed Quickfire. Mr. Foam, Marcel, was eliminated. Dale picked him to be the other team captain and he failed misersbly as executive chef as well as his foamy dishes. He was just as obnoxious in All Stars as his season, which is hard to believe. Looks like more team stuff coming up. Hopefully they will get to individual dishes soon.

Re: Top Chef--All Stars

I'm pretty sick of the team challenges. It's great to weed out a few in the first couple of episodes, but after Restaurant Wars, you should be working on your own.

Any reason given for why they had 5 on a team instead of the usual 4 for Restaurant Wars? (Also, how could you NOT pick Fabio?! He's a good chef, maybe not one of the best, but he wins on front of the house without a doubt!)

Seeing Dale act more mature this season has made me less upset about rooting for him. I would like Carla to win it all, but I know, based on her cooking, that doesn't deserve the TOP spot (second would be great). Blais and Dale should come in the top two barring any crazy challenge or disastrous team results.

Re: Top Chef--All Stars

Your bias against Angelo is showing.

It's not bias. I don't think his food is as good or creative (if I see one more crudo/raw fish preparation, I'm going to scream).

Boy...I was REALLY REALLY REALLY unhappy with last night's Quickfire. What a waste of our time and the chef's time...Make food, but we're not going to eat it, and we don't care if it even potentially tastes good.   Is it not something they've stressed over and over again (particularly to Marcel!): It has to look good, but more importantly IT HAS TO TASTE GOOD! Ugh! I was furious! This season may be my last. I am starting to think they've jumped the shark.

The elimination challenge was great/fun! I'd have been totally happy to watch that for the whole episode (particularly Bourdain waxing poetic about Italian cuisine, which should be amusing to anyone who has read Kitchen Confidential). I didn't know that Rao's restaurant was the same as the (super-expensive) Rao's pasta sauce available at our Stop N Shop. Interesting...

Happy to see Mike and Dale stay, even though I will miss Tre's sexiness.

Re: Top Chef--All Stars

That quickfire was the suckiest bunch of suck that ever sucked. I think the quickfires should only be used in the early episodes of the season. At this stage, the focus needs to be on the real competition, not some pointless exercise of "let's put some crap on a plate that looks like something and isn't edible".

Re: Top Chef--All Stars

Just watching it now. This guy judging the Quickfire is a clown and this entire exercise is pointless.

Also, am I the only one that noticed Angelo spelled Crocodile wrong? "Crocadile". Nice.

The spelling thing was bad. I was waiting for him to get teased about it from one of the other chefs, but maybe all chefs are bad spellers.

The quickfire was such a shameless plug for Bravo's "Fashion Show Ultimate Collection" series. The funny thing there is the series ended a few weeks ago, so it seemed pointless.
