Top Chef--All Stars

Re: Top Chef--All Stars

The spelling thing was bad. I was waiting for him to get teased about it from one of the other chefs, but maybe all chefs are bad spellers.

The quickfire was such a shameless plug for Bravo's "Fashion Show Ultimate Collection" series. The funny thing there is the series ended a few weeks ago, so it seemed pointless.

Not only is the Fashion Show done, but it was really awful. I'm a Project Runway fan, but Bravo hasn't come up with anything decent since Heidi Klum took the money and ran.

Now back to Angelo--That bag of #$%& that he put out, didn't look like a croco(a)dile. Maybe that's why he wrote what he thought it was. lol
And really, you don't tell one designer that another is your favorite. Brain and taste certainly disengaged.
And I still think he's creepy.

Tre really hasn't had much of an impact this season. Not surprised it was his time to leave.

Re: Top Chef--All Stars

Cell Phone Shootout for Jimmy Fallon's favorite foods seemed to be fun for the chefs.
Farewell to Fabio who couldn't make or pronounce Burger.
The bottom 3--Fabio, Tiffany and Dale were all uniformly "panned" by the judges. I really thought Dale was in big trouble with his "salt lick" Philly steak and Tiff's chicken and dumplings didn't come close to what was expected.

3rd win for Carla with chicken pot pie--crust on the bottom makes the difference.

Re: Top Chef--All Stars

Figured this thread was as good a place as any to put this...

Went to see Anthony Bourdain speak last night. He was as entertaining and foul mouthed as you might expect. He talked for about 2 hours, then did 15 or 20 minutes of Q&A. He started the show by ripping the Food Network a bit - no shocker there. He then rambled and told stories about being on Top Chef (also, how much he likes the show, and how much he dislikes a few other reality shows - like Iron Chef America (he hates the judges) and Hell's Kitchen (no talent contestants)), No Reservations, and his life in general. Somebody asked him if he'd ever consider competing on Top Chef Masters - his answer was something to the effect of "Hell no, why would I want to work that hard?!" Then he said he didn't consider himself in the same league as those chefs. He struck an odd balance between extremely smarmy and charmingly humble. I had a great time.

Re: Top Chef--All Stars

"Shocking elmination" according to the promo and with Angelo, Carla and Tiffany in the bottom, pretty sure Tiffany was safe again:eek:
Angelo had a meltdown and didn't survive.

Really didn't think Dale's grilled cheese and tomato soup would win, but that is one of my favorite comfort meals when I'm sick.

Re: Top Chef--All Stars

What a dumb episode. Making cookies for some puppets? Cooking in a Target? These are the kind of challenges for early in the season, not now. Too bad Angelo got axed.

Didn't mind making cookies, but you are so right about the Target challenge--early in the season makes so much more sense.
Tiffany still in is the really shocking part now. How has she survived?

Re: Top Chef--All Stars

I have to say, I loved the Sesame Street part of the show. Yes, it definitely should have been earlier in the season, but it was fun to see the characters.

That said, I hated the elimination challenge. Shop, set up a station, and cater in a short amount of time on no sleep in a Target? Really? That's the best we can do for this caliber (for the most part) of chef? I did like Dale's tomato soup & sandwich (a comfort food for me as well), but I was disappointed in the number of soups. And Angelo should have known better, he's a better chef than that. (That said, I'd have preferred Tiffany to go home).

This may be the last season for me. We're getting rid of cable when the season is over and I won't be making the effort to tune in online.

I have considered this for some time, what is your alternative to cable? Nothing or just an antenna?

Thinking about a Roku box with a Netflix account & Hulu plus account. Those would run me 16 per month plus the initial investment of about 80$ on the box. We may be giving up baseball & football as we've become disheartened & you can watch the NHL online.

Re: Top Chef--All Stars

In a shocker, Dale was eliminated tonight. In a continuing theme this season, Tiffany managed to survive once again by being slightly less-bad than her competitors. It'd be absolutely criminal for her to make it to the final.

Re: Top Chef--All Stars

Dale and Angelo were finals type chefs, what a shock to see them gone. The final is looking more watered down than ever.

This was my thought. From the previews, we may see Richard's exit next week. If so, I will not watch the remaining episodes or any more new seasons.

I was upset that Angelo went home. I can't decide if he got the a$shole edit during his season or if he was one, but I definitely liked him more this season. To see him go home before some of the other chefs remaining (sadly, including Carla) was a disappointment.

To see Dale go home this week, when the panel included Paula f*ing Dean, was infuriating. Dale was certainly one of, if not *the*, best chef remaining.

Richard says he's going home every week, I wouldn't be too concerned.

It's pretty simple, if you make the worst dish of the week, you're going home. It's so funny to hear people complain that he was the best until that point, because while true, the judges don't care about that. Tiffany isn't the best chef there, but she's consistently mediocre. Carla has a bit of talent, but she'll never win the big prize with homey comfort food. Mike's a cheater but can randomly cook a good dish, even ones that he doesn't come up with. Antonia's been in 2nd probably 6 times this season and lost a quickfire because she can't count to two, I don't think she's gotten the recognition she's deserved this season at all. Richard is by far the heavy favorite now, but a meal between he and Antonia would be a good one.

Re: Top Chef--All Stars

I agree with Rimmy 100%. This show is the same as a single elimination tournament. You might be the best team in a best-of-series vs the rest, but if you **** up, you're done. I have no doubt that Dale, Angelo, and Fabio are better chefs than Tiffany - but all three of them made bigger mistakes than she did, and that's all that matters in a one-and-done format.

This competition is between Richard and Antonia now, IMHO. Carla and Mike could both win as well, but I believe they are too swingy in their execution to pull it off. Tiffany's approach of being "less bad than the worst" might work one more week, but I don't see it working beyond that. She's like a bubble team in the pairwise needing a couple other teams to **** up to stay in it. She's shown no ability to actually beat her opponents with a top three dish.

It's not as if Tiffany doesn't agree with you- she's been shocked both times to stay.

I fully agree that we are in a one and done tournament now- mess up enough, and you are gone. And we know the show is edited in an infuriated way to make us think there is closer competition. I hate that, since it brings into question the integrity of the judges- which is a bad thing. Once enough fans think the show is fixed based on what is shown to us, the less that will watch.

Bad that Dale went home, but I have to assume he sucked more than Carla or Tiffany.

That's how I'm set up minus the box. Runs me more like $20/month.

The advantage with the ROKU box is being able to watch MLB.tv on your tv, tap into Amazon.com on Demand on TV, and have Hulu Plus and Netflix. Haven't decided if it's worth that route or worth just going Netflix through the Wii and Hulu plus on the computer. We're at 70/month now with DishNetwork.
