Here's my top 4
Tiffani Faison; Season 1 finalist QF 1 EC
Richard Blais; Season 4 finalist QF 3 EC 4
Fabio Viviani; Season 5, final four and Fan Favorite EC 2
Jennifer Carroll; Season 6, final four QF 4 EC 1

Dark Horses
Dale Talde; Season 4, top six QF 1 EC 3
Dale Levitski; Season 3 finalist QF 2 EC 1

I know, know, Angelo Sosa was 2nd in wins to Blais. And if he hadn't gotten sick, he might have won season 7, but his attitude made me a little nauseous :p

Re: Top Chef--All Stars

I am SUPER-excited for this! (and it premiers on my birthday!) :D Not sure on how people are going to cook, but I'm betting it's pretty awesome. Wishing Brian Voltaggio was participating, but he and his brother sound superbusy according to their website and Tweets. I'm not crazy about Stephen being back as he's said multiple times that he's no longer interested in being a chef (though I assume he's doing it to drum up publicity for some new business venture). Also, I'd have like to see Top 4 or Top 5 only, not that I don't like Mike I, Jamie, Dale T., and Tre (especially Tre, I was annoyed at his departure), but if it's "All Stars"... Top 8 out of 16 isn't really an All Star.

Happy Birthday a day early!

Just read Skillet Doux's ratings and Dom has Stephen at the bottom. Rumor is the first episode will be a double elimination :eek:

Dom's Top 4--Tiffani, Blais, Jen and Angelo--couldn't argue with the top 3, but Angelo is still a little creepy for my taste.

Re: Top Chef--All Stars

Thanks for reminding me, just read Skillet Doux's blog on the upcoming season. I agree with the ranking of Stephen (I think even as he was being eliminated he said he was over cooking...sore lose talking maybe, but telling nonetheless), but definitely not of others. I do think Tiffani will be a force to be reckoned with as she really has been working hard around the Boston area. I disagree with the ranking of Tre and Casey, but not with Richard (though it will break my heart to see him come up short again). I can't stand Spike and am not thrilled to see him back on the line.

I do wonder how having Bourdain as a regular guest judge is going to fly with previous contestants. Not only did Marcel not fare well with him during Season 2, but I believe Bourdain might have been the guest judge in the season 5 finale when Marcel blew his top at Toby Young regarding Stefan's performance in the finale.

Re: Top Chef--All Stars

If Richard, Angelo or Casey do not win I will be extremely surprised, and I was greatly disappointed to see the hottest chef of any season voted out the 1st week.

btw - I wish Stefan or the losing Voltaggio were present.

Am I a bad person for wanting to take Casey out for a night on the town?

I love the idea for this season as all these chefs have a ton of talent, but I'm with you for the most part. I think Richard and Angelo will be extremely tough to top as their cumulative works were probably the best overall in their respective seasons, and they both just know their ****, period. I've been meaning to post this for a week, but I consider Jamie a bit of a dark horse. At times she was able to blow the judges' minds with the complexity of her simplicity, but at the same time her inconsistency was her downfall. If she's been able to rectify that I think she has a better shot than some might want to admit. Besides, I know she's a lesbian but she's still sort of hot. I'm also looking at Dale T. as someone who shouldn't be discounted.

All that said...you're right. Mini-Volt and Stefan might have made this even better.

And with all that, my pick is Richard. He doesn't have the flake factor that I suspect Angelo does.

Re: Top Chef--All Stars

Of all the All Stars, here's the 4 I'd like to see make it to the end:

Tiffani - ***** on the surface, but very talented and very cool as season 1 progressed
Antonia - totally talentend
Angelo - came across as an ******* at first, but turned out to be a very cool guy

... and Jennifer Carroll coming on on top, hopefully

I'm actually surprised we don't have Stefan...The losing Voltaggio makes sense though. This cast seems, for the most part, to be chefs who haven't achieved professionally what they want. Bryan has his own restaurant, and from the sounds of his webpage and Twitter feed, is insanely busy with the restaurant, potentially starting something up with Michael, and doing some promotional work with Tom. Plus, I think a lot of his enjoyment of the competition ended up stemming from competing with his brother. And, as he mentioned during his season, he has a young kid that I don't imagine he wanted to be away from.

I don't get the Antonia thing. I don't think she's more talented than most of the other chefs on this season. I was happy to see her go when she did on her season and I'm totally over the Spike is a jerk drama that she seems to harp on. *shrug* I would like to see Jen C. or Richard on top though.

Enjoyed last night's episode very much. Thought the Quickfire was a bit lame, but fitting for the first show (I usually think the first Quickfire is lame, except for 7 when they did the mise race first). I liked the idea for the first challenge, but felt a little bad for Stephen because he was totally out of the loop about what to make since he hadn't been in the kitchen when that food was produced. Not too bad though, since I don't really like him anyway and was rooting for him to go home. I did feel bad for Elia as I thought her dish was not the worst of the three (though having uncooked fish for Gail and not testing it before sending it out are both HUGE no-nos on the show).

I get the sneaking suspicion that this is not the last of the Fabio-Bourdain drama for the season.

Re: Top Chef--All Stars

Besides the blogs on Bravo and Skillet Doux, Gail Simmons is doing one on Entertainment Weekly. The judging went for 6-7 hours--now that would make the stew room pretty uncomfortable.

Was surprised that Elia went so early. She just didn't seem to step it up as most of the others did. Was also surprised Fabio did so badly, maybe he needs Stefan for inspiration. Angelo wasn't as bad as he was in season 7. Stephen should be the next to go.

Still cheering for S1 Tiffani, Blais and Jen.

Re: Top Chef--All Stars

Just saw Season 1 Wedding Challenge and that is where Stephen bites the dust. Thinking tonight could be the same result.

Re: Top Chef--All Stars

Yowzers. Note to the chefs....don't talk back to the judges unless you want to go home!

Re: Top Chef--All Stars

Now that was a shocker.:(
I had Jen in my top 4 for sure.

Blais and Tiffani (S1) are my favorites to win, but if you prefer the creepy side you may have to include Angelo and Marcel.

Re: Top Chef--All Stars

Stephen bit the dust this week as did Dale L. I thought he would go farther, but veal chop on sweet french toast with popcorn and peanuts seemed over the top. And we know for sure Fabio doesn't cook Asian.

Angelo is getting creeper again. Later on Bravo Tom even admitted he was really playing the game.

Going back to last week's episode, I'm totally befuddled by Jen's behaviour as well as the Judges'. The whole episode was actually rather off-putting: hype a bunch of kids up on sugar, keep contestants poorly-rested, test their skills with a ridiculous challenge. I wasn't a fan of the episode.

This week - much much much better episode. Loved seeing the chefs dine at different places. Would really liked to have tried a few of the dishes, especially Tre's and Dale T's. I'm not surprised about (and was rooting for) Stephen's departure. He has said a few different times that he's over cooking and is more focused on his other ventures. I would have rather seen him replaced by CJ or Dave from S1. I am sorry about Dale L's departure as I really like him/his character. I agree with viz though on his food -- too much, too weird, too sweet. (Also, I couldn't believe he made dumplings in the last episode as they were a "trainwreck" in the Top Chef Dinner that Fabio hosted a year or so ago.)

I was a bit disappointed as I thought this was the race with Tom. I will have to this episode as I was sleepy and am sure I missed some details to comment on.

Was the Andy Cohen show worth watching? Talking about creepers, something about him just seems odd or off...

Worth watching? If you're a fan of Amy Sedaris, probably yes. Tom seemed amused during the whole thing. There were some good moments.
I think Andy Cohen is a little creepier than necessary and he seems worse since he has his own show. But then again associating with the Housewives from where ever might be enough to put you aver the edge. :-o

Re: Top Chef--All Stars

Loved the 4 chefs at 4 restaurants challenge - one of the best I can recall in a long time.

I still see Angelo or Richard winning the whole thing.
