Too early for the PWR? Princeton and Brown say no!

Re: Too early for the PWR? Princeton and Brown say no!

Denver's proximity isn't a huge issue, but St. Louis is about a 12 hour drive (long, but manageable). Saying that, Denver has a very small fan base, and there are more DU fans out east than in St. Louis (assuming). I think Denver will bring about the same amount of fans wherever they are, along with North Dakota, unless North Dakota were placed in the Green Bay Regional. On a personal note, I am hoping North Dakota gets placed in the St. Louis regional.

Denver is a small private school with about 5,000 undergrads, and probably would draw more fans in Bridgeport or Manchester (say 100) than St. Louis(75) or Green Bay (say 50). DU has far more alumni in the East (NY/Boston) than we do in Missouri or Wisconsin. St. Louis is too long a drive ffrom Denver for all but a few zealots. We have a big alumni presence in Chicago, but not many would make the drive to Green Bay, although a few might go down to St. Louis.

So what you're saying is that Denver will bring about the same amount of fans (between 50-100) regardless of where they are placed?

Re: Too early for the PWR? Princeton and Brown say no!

Well, I'd say their last trip being over twenty years ago means they've effectively never been, as far as determining attendance trends goes. :)

Either way, they are a fine institution. :p

PWR through tonights games:

1. Yale (EC) - 34
2. Minnesota-Duluth (WC) - 33
3. North Dakota (WC) - 32
4. Denver (WC) - 31
-----------------------
5. Michigan (CC) - 30
6. Boston College (HE) - 29
7. New Hampshire (HE) - 28
8. Wisconsin (WC) - 25
-----------------------
9. Dartmouth (EC) - 25
10. Nebraska-Omaha (WC) - 25
11. Merrimack (HE) - 23
12. Notre Dame (CC) - 23
-----------------------
13. Western Michigan (CC) - 23
14. Rensselaer (EC) - 20
15. Union (EC) - 19
16. AHA Champ

Straight Brackets

Bridgeport:
1. Yale (EC)
8. Wisconsin (WC)
9. Dartmouth (EC)
16. AHA Champ

Green Bay:
2. Minnesota-Duluth (WC)
7. New Hampshire (HE)

14. Rensselaer (EC)

Manchester:
4. Denver (WC)
5. Michigan (CC)
12. Notre Dame (CC)
13. Western Michigan (CC)

Switches:
  • New Hampshire and Michigan since UNH is a host. Also, having Michigan in Green Bay could help attendance.
  • Merrimack and Nebraska-Omaha to avoid Hockey East first round matchup in St. Louis. Having UNO in St. Louis could help with the attendance out there as well.

Best Guess:

Bridgeport:
1. Yale (EC)
8. Wisconsin (WC)
9. Dartmouth (EC)
16. AHA Champ

Green Bay:
2. Minnesota-Duluth (WC)
5. Michigan (CC)

agree. but you could also swap union with western mich for travel considerations... then, if you want to get crazy, a three way shuffle of the 2 seeds bc to bridgeport, wisco to gb and mich to stl (an idea i was against but am warming up and would be interested to see where moy puts them in his initial bracketology)

Yeah, the Union/Western Michigan swap would probably happen. With the two seeds, I tried to limit the number of changes from the straight brackets, but getting BC out east and thus moving Michigan and Wisconsin is also possible. We'll see what it looks like after tonight's games.

Re: Too early for the PWR? Princeton and Brown say no!

1 Yale (EC)
2 Minn-Duluth (WC)
3 North Dakota (WC)
4 Denver U (WC)
---
5 Boston Coll (HE)
6 Michigan (CC)
7 RPI (EC)
8 Wisconsin (WC)
---
9 Notre Dame (CC)
10 New Hampshire (HE)
11 Western Mich (CC)
12 NE-Omaha (WC)
---
13 Dartmouth (EC)
14 Merrimack (HE)
15 Union (EC)

That gives us a natural selection of:

Code:
[B]Bridgeport Manchester St Louis Green Bay[/B]
Yale Denver North Dakota Minn-Duluth
Wisconsin BC Michigan RPI
Notre Dame NE-Omaha W Michigan UNH
AHA Champ Dartmouth Merrimack Union

To take care of UNH hosting, conference pairings and attendance we have to shuffle a few teams:

Code:
[B]Bridgeport Manchester St Louis Green Bay[/B]
Yale Denver North Dakota Minn-Duluth
BC RPI Michigan Wisconsin
W Michigan UNH NE-Omaha Notre Dame
AHA Champ Dartmouth Merrimack Union

Note: Among the ties that had to be broken was UNO v Dartmouth v Merrimack. This is important because one will be a #3 seed and two will be #4 seeds. From past experience, this tie is broken by RPI even though Dartmouth wins both comparisons with UNO and Merrimack. As a result, UNO is #12, Dartmouth #13 and Merrimack #14.

On Siouxsports.com it shows Union as #12, 1 comparison ahead of UNO, Dartmouth and Merrimack.

Re: Too early for the PWR? Princeton and Brown say no!

That's because they don't have the Denver-AA game final yet. When DU wins (up 5-1 with 5 left) UAA will no longer be a TUC (RPI .4994) and the standings will change.

Re: Too early for the PWR? Princeton and Brown say no!

So, that would give tiers of...

#1 Seeds:
Yale, Duluth, North Dakota, Denver

#2 Seeds:
BC, Michigan, Wisconsin, RPI

#3 Seeds:
Notre Dame, UNH, Western Michigan, Union

#4 Seeds:
UNO, Dartmouth, Merrimack, AH Champ

Bracket Integrity Brackets:
Bridgeport:
Yale vs UNO
RPI vs Notre Dame

Manchester:
Duluth vs AH Champ
Wisconsin vs New Hampshire

Green Bay:
North Dakota vs Merrimack
Michigan vs Union

St. Louis:
Denver vs Dartmouth
BC vs Western Michigan

Maximize Attendance Brackets:

Bridgeport:
Yale vs UNO
BC vs Notre Dame

Mancester:
Denver vs Dartmouth
RPI vs New Hampshire

Green Bay:
Duluth vs AH Champ
Wisconsin vs Western Michigan

St. Louis:
North Dakota vs Merrimack
Michigan vs Union

Re: Too early for the PWR? Princeton and Brown say no!

East:

1. Yale
2. RPI
3. Notre Dame
4. RIT/Niagara

Midwest:

1. UMD
2. Wisconsin
3. Western Michigan
4. Union

Northeast:

1. North Dakota
2. Michigan
3. UNH
4. Merrimack

West:

1. Denver
2. BC
3. UNO
4. Dartmouth

**Only the West regional in St. Louis presents attendance issues (shocker), but when you look at bracket integrity, avoiding intra-conference matchups and the fact UNH is a host, the only thing I would do to boost attendance in STL is switch Denver and North Dakota.

Re: Too early for the PWR? Princeton and Brown say no!

I do. Stay away from UND. Hooray!
I would be almost guaranteed to have one of the teams I bet on in the Frozen 4 this way, but I'm greedy, I want 3 of 4 in the Frozen 4. So far my bets of UND, DU, BC and UNO are looking pretty good, especially DU at 20-1.
