This is coming from a guy who's NEVER been to Detroit. Sure there are spots that appear to be Beruit or post-war Iraq but downtown doesn't feel much different than any other city in America and the area around Ford Field and Comerica is certainly much improved. I hope the Huskies (St. Cloud variety) get invited for 2013 instead as I've had this trip circled on my calendar for 3-4 years.
Shouldn't you be working? I thought you were to good to post on message boards.I have been to Michigan a few times, but never dumb enough to want to hang out in Detroit. I don't need to go to the projects to know they are there.......
Ha! Wow, you got buffaloed by Chicago, didn't you. It ain't all glitz and glamor in downtown Chicago. And lots of rough patches to get to the good areas, just like Detroit... Downtown isn't projects at all, its also not Chicago ...
I've been on conference calls most of the day, nothing better to do than read USCHO while I'm listening. You on the other hand have work you should be doing!
If you haven't been there, don't comment. Downtown isn't projects at all, its also not Chicago but I never felt unsafe and we didn't just hang out by the arena, our hotel or the casino's, we actually moved around and saw nearly all of downtown. (but there are areas we avoided, we're not stupid)
That's kind of a poor choice for a list of cities since he lives in the Twin Cities and the Twin Cities metro is larger than those of Denver, Salt Lake, Cincinnati, Cleveland, and Tampaadvise for going to Detroit : grow a pair
its a big city. yup its got some badass neighborhoods. its got a lot of good stuff too. just like Chicago, New York, Boston, Denver, Miami, Los Angeles, San Franc, Salt Lake, Phoenix (or is it Pheonix? [inside joke - Jan won't understand]), Atlanta, Dallas, Cinncinati, Cleveland, Tampa, etc etc etc. its a big city. scary I know.
advice for going to Detroit : grow a pair...its a big city...its got a lot of good stuff too.
Does the NHL really think they need 100,000 seats for an event that happens every year now?
Don't tempt the NHL. They might try to put the next one at MIS.
a lot of people have told me the city is a dump including you. Don't try and come on here and say suddenly you think it is a nice place. To say I can't comment on a place or say I don't ever want to go there because I haven't been there is crazy talk. It's like saying you can't comment on college hockey if you never played it.
In Detroit/SE Michigan they do. We drew 106,000 for a college game. And it's not just the Wings, it's the Leafs. Toronto is only a 4 hour drive a way, full of hockey crazed fans who've never tasted an outdoor stadium game. I bet they could draw 200,000 for this game if they had the seats and priced it right. (Granted, NHL tickets will cost a lot more than the Big Chill tickets did.)

I should go get a shovel to smack you for that DAMMIT!Don't tempt the NHL. They might try to put the next one at MIS.
Yeah, but you would get to move up because most of the Leaf fans would likely all be stuck out on US-12 trying to get into the game because they didn't know that they really needed to be parked there the night before because getting there really sucks. My luck I'd get stuck with backstretch tickets.
so ***? I'm supposed to teach you geography in addition to holding your hand while you go to the big scary city?
Obviously not since I just taught you geography. Just sayin' that if your going to give a guy a hard time for not wanting to go to a "big scary city," at least pick cities that are actually bigger than the one he lives in. I, personally, wouldn't have a problem going to Detroit.
Anyway, sorry for getting way off topic, I understand wanting all Michigan teams for this particular event, SCSU being bumped doesn't bother me at all.
