Re: Time for a change at UVM

Frankly, I don't quite buy the death knell theory from all that has transpired with UVM that's being professed by some. If you hire good people change for the good can happen rather quickly. That's their objective, responsibility, and what good people are capable of. What has apparently occurred in this situation (through my observation at a distance) is not remotely unprecedented in college athletics. Not long ago a now former coach of a WCHA member team, an institution with a storied hockey tradition of excellence, was lambasted, vilified and maligned very publicly over the course of two years minimum by just about every fan of the program. They demanded better results and didn't hesitate or pull any punches when it came to pointing their fingers in an extremely caustic manner, directly at the head coach. There were numerous reported complaints from players with evidence to support those reports in the form of transfers and potential recruits backing away and or choosing to play elsewhere for reasons cited in fan complaints.

A change was made...abruptly (if you can call post two years of toxic complaining abrupt) and IMO, to a large degree, as a direct result of fans very vocal dissatisfaction with results and the abilities of the head coach. With the new staff recruiting success rebounded virtually instantaneously and a few years later the team is in the NCAA tournament. Is there a reason this couldn't happen at Vermont? You have to hire the people who can get it done. Sometimes it appears dependent on how serious the institution and athletic dept. are about competing in the sport.

I agree, just hire the right people and you're in--it's that simple.

Need ya to highlight the part where I said that's all that's required...or that "it's that simple." The original post is still available in it's entirety and unedited if it's needed for this purpose.

My opinion is that hiring the right people is a very significant aspect of building a successful program. It's easy to roll your eyes to scoff at an opinion while not having the stones to offer your own. That is a simple prospect.

If I could rely on the fact that the post is still there in its entirety I might consider looking at it--but I can't; your stuff tends to get adjusted from time to time. My point would be the obvious. It's a lot more complicated than you could ever imagine to understand. You speak as if you've had experience with this sort of thing. Please, share this with us. :)

There's a little forum feature that indicates when a post has been edited. If you don't see it the post hasn't been "adjusted" or edited.

Your comment about how I speak is incorrect. I've witnessed the turnaround and drastic competitive improvement of a few programs, all after changes to coaching staffs. This would be a factor in the opinion I posted. An opinion completely void of any claimed experience or expertise, which is readily apparent when reading the post. Furthermore, you are the one who's constantly implying and driven to convince the entire forum you are the indisputable and foremost hockey genius / expert on the planet. Yet all you ever do is mock my opinions with absolutely no counterpoints or contrary opinions to actually prove the professed invalid content of my opinions. Since I've already posted my opinion, I believe it's you who should be sharing what you know that specifically invalidates my opinion. Like I've already mentioned, it's very easy to scoff and mock opinions in this forum while never backing it up with any actual reasoning. Easy as pie. :)

How you speak is to skirt....and I use this term with obvious intention, the true ability to judge or to even comment on matters that don't concern you. If you had any credibility at all--I wouldn't even bother. People like you should stay in the stands and shut the **** up. Simple. Please use your own pompous arse material from now on and stop stealing mine. I'm limited. ;)

So...no counterpoint or actual reasoning based on your extensive expertise to refute my opinion then?

Your opinion is flawed, as per usual. With no apparent ability to understand the true ability to coach or play the game keeps you at the lower end of the table. To give an opinion you have to "get it." If your team was at the lower end, you would surely drift into the place you belong; instead you ride on coattails. You are the worst part of hockey, the coke bottled glasses guy who thinks he can rule these boards because of other people's success. Do you have both a home and away jersey? Go ahead, but please, show me some credentials for which you speak. By the way...I will be in town for the game tomorrow, and hopefully around through to the finals. Business, as usual. :)

Still missing the expert evidence to substantiate the flaw of my opinion. You keep telling me what I don't know but never anything regarding what you know, that escapes my oft mentioned lack of qualification...which I guess translates to no right to an opinion?

The place I belong...ride on coattails...coke bottled glasses guy...rule these boards. All very strange comments IMO.

Well then, fiction stranger than truth? We'll see.

Re: Time for a change at UVM

UVM will probably do better next year than they would have done if Bothwell was still in charge. First, none of the team liked playing for him. A change will help there. Second, roughly half the freshman class was going to transfer. They should all be staying now. The girls get along well, there is great team chemistry there, so a new coach will have players with a positive attitude who were dying for a change. There are only two seniors leaving, and although they were key players, there won't be a ton of turnover.

UVM has some issues. Injuries. The defensive team is young and needs beefing up. But they have some very good players and a good goalie. Sadly, not many recruits for next year. But, they should still finish better than this year and if the get a good class of recuits After next season, they should be as good as any team in hockey east.

Re: Time for a change at UVM

Okay so now that Coach Bolding is the 3 time consecutive D3 Coach of The Year...and has taken his team to the NCAA D3 National Finals the last 3 years (winning one, not bad for a 6 year old team), does anyone else think that maybe, just maybe this will get him at least a sniff at the UVM position. I mean he is in their own back yard? I gotta tell you if they do not have this guy as at least a finalist on a short list.....they may be a bit dumber then I thought.

Program is 5 years old. Not 6.

Okay Derek....then seeing as how I now know that someone with some NU background is out on this thread....what is your feeling on Coach Bolding and the UVM job?

And don't take the high road out of the question.....you are around those guys enough to have a bit of insight on this matter:)
