Re: Time for a change at UVM

You can't just hire someone because you want them. They have to want to be there too. Maybe he was offered the shot and turned it down? Maybe he wasn't, but you can't say it's odd he wasn't given the chance or that they went outside their backyard for the hire without really knowing what both sides were saying/doing.

No, I realize that. What I was basically asking was if anyone had any info on if A) was he interviewed and B) If so if anyone had any reasoning on why he was not taken........I was really looking to see if he was even given an opportunity at it:confused:

Re: Time for a change at UVM

If that is true and I see nothing on the UVM website so the poster must have inside info.....The guy is a good coach and a respected coach.....I still find it a little odd that you have a 3 time (consecutive no less) Division 3 coach of the year sitting in you own back yard and you go elsewhere?? Just would have liked to have seen Coach Bolding get a shot to show what he could do......If he was even interviewed

Coach Bolding was, as was another DIII coach who had won a National Championship. As I understand it, that person, like Coach Lewis, withdrew.

Does anyone know when the official announcement will be made?

Re: Time for a change at UVM

Because they probably got a pay increase to stay where they are, less pressure, no need to move your family, and Bolding has a pretty good thing going at NU. Is Lewis that well respected?

UVM gave interviews to 4 candidates. The Norwich coach was amongst those candidates. As was the Maine coach, and an assistant at UVM and obviously Amhersts'.

This sentence confuses me and I think it is confusing some other posters. Might want to clarify.

Re: Time for a change at UVM

Why did two well respected coaches with drawl their applications? Lewis & Bolding.

Sometimes candidates withdraw their names when they know they are not getting the position to save face or bolster their position at their existing jobs. Well known trick in business world. Not saying this occurred here, but it has been know to happen.

Maria Lewis will probably get a pay increase, but what she really wanted was more resources for her program. Yes, she is well respected.

Sounds like he means "Coach Bolding was interviewed, and another coach who won a DIII national championship was interviewed, but as he understands it,
like Coach Lewis, the winner of the DIII championship withdrew"

That's the way I read it, but another poster below reads it as Coach Bolding withdrew his name.

Exactly.

Once again...That's the way I read it...but just wanted to clarify since someone below already didn't and I wanted to make sure there wasn't any misinformation floating around out there or rumors.

Re: Time for a change at UVM

Well, Jim Plumer has certainly proven himself at the D3 level. It's a logical progression and a big step up for him. I wish the Catamounts well under their new coach.

Re: Time for a change at UVM

Jim is VERY capable of making this happen for UVM. As a coach this is not such a big jump for Jim at all.
