TIGER WOODS hurt in car accident.

Re: TIGER WOODS hurt in car accident.

I really think Accenture had to dump him more than any other of his sponsors. They were not selling a razor, a watch, or sports drink. They were comparing the strategy/integrity of their work and their people with him, and clearly this was not a comparison that should continue right now.

While I agree with your sentiment, I really doubt any RFP for consulting services includes provisions for celebrity endorsements. Accenture was/is attempting to brand itself even though the vast majority of people have no idea the firm exists, or what it does. Companies like Nike, Gillette, etc. have more at stake since they have entire product lines tied to Tiger. Accenture made a good move, but its impact on its overall marketing plans is pretty minimal.

Its true, they were not selling a store product like the other sponsors were. But still, their clients are usually large, well-known firms, and they need to be careful of the image they represent to these clients. As someone who worked for Accenture for several years, I can attest to this on many levels.

that works both ways... accenture uses him as a figure to reach people they want to hire them (such as members at WF and Merion ;) ), and the people that in turn hire them do so with the knowledge that others recognize the relationship.

remember, "nobody ever got fired for hirin IBM"

Heh. I was offered a job with Accenture a few years after they changed their name from Andersen Consulting. The starting salary was so low, I thought it was part-time. I went to law school instead. ;)

I have decided I am bored with the story and no longer care...call me when he goes to rehab! ;)

My main point was that I agreed they had to get rid of him; those giant ads in the airports are not what they need right now, everyone asociating their brand with Tiger. I think they did the right thing.

Re: TIGER WOODS hurt in car accident.

And the fact he never tipped at restaurants, and wanted free meals because he was Tiger Woods? Really? He'd spend tens of thousands on hookers and bar tabs but didnt want to pay the dinner bill? Geez, Tiger.

sounds like Larry Bird ('cept for the stripers and hookers part)

Thanks mookie; I'm glad it wasn't lost on everyone!

You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means.

Main Entry: prod·i·gy
Pronunciation: \ˈprä-də-jē\
Function: noun
Inflected Form(s): plural prod·i·gies
Etymology: Middle English, from Latin prodigium omen, monster, from pro-, prod- + -igium (akin to aio I say) — more at adage
Date: 15th century

1 a : a portentous event : omen b : something extraordinary or inexplicable
2 a : an extraordinary, marvelous, or unusual accomplishment, deed, or event b : a highly talented child or youth
