Tickets to FF?

Re: Tickets to FF?

Checked StubHub last night just out of curiosity. SRO tickets are all they had, starting at $100 & going to $125.
True for the all-session tickets, but very misleading.

Most sellers have split their tickets, so they're selling "Friday Only" and "Sunday Only." Naturally when you add the two ala carte prices together, the total is higher than the all-sessions SRO. Which is, of course, why sellers split them up. But be that as it may, there is currently a decent selection of seats for both sessions on StubHub.

I'm focusing on just getting access to semi-final tickets at a somewhat reasonable price (though not sure what that is yet). Because if the Badgers lose, I have no need for a finals ticket and if they win, the market for those tickets should drop (in theory) with Minnesota not being in it.
Sounds strategy for Badger fans.

For Gopher fans, I tend to think you'd want to lock in for the tournament. True, you might overpay for Sunday if Friday doesn't go your way. But if you don't buy now, there's a real risk of being shut out of a title game with the Gophers in it.

Whether these prices are affordable is for each fan to decide for themselves. Obviously the numbers are far above the norm for Women's Hockey. If someone decides they just can't afford it, I wouldn't second guess them at all. But if affordable, I'd lock in now, as per the above.

Wish I could attend; the trip just isn't in the cards this year...

Re: Tickets to FF?

In doing research, I doubt I will be able to afford any tickets and the thought of getting there and literally trying to find some where we all could sit together very low not making me feel warm and fuzzy, I will enjoy the game on the internet like last year.....oh well.

Let's go RED!

Re: Tickets to FF?

You Badger fans that didn’t buy tickets really screwed up. And Gopher fans screwed up even more. What were the chances of both teams not making the final 4, the only way your tickets would be worthless? And it wasn’t like you would have been gambling much money.

Even if only one of those teams had made the F4, your tickets would likely be more valuable than you paid for them. And if one makes the final …

If the Badgers lose, the Badger fan’s tickets are suddenly worth big bucks, almost enough to cover the total cost of your trip to MN.

And if the Gophers lose, your tickets are valuable enough to Badger fans that your total cost for the F4 should be nothing. Except those of you who stuff your face with nachos and popcorn. :)

Re: Tickets to FF?

I just officially got my form letter response from UW saying they had "no additional tickets to sell to UW Patrons." Despite the fact that I told them I was already on MN's waiting list, I was informed I could sign up for said waiting list, and they also said I could try stubhub. Great help there.

Re: Tickets to FF?

So, official word from Harvard ticket office is that the small allotment will be (likely) used by the team members - which of course is the way it should be! it's just too bad that the schools only get a "small" allotment - seems to me that for a sport like women's hockey there should be a way that fans that are willing to travel should be able to get tickets at a reasonable price.

Oh, well, guess I'll be watching on the computer....

Re: Tickets to FF?

Just got on the waiting list. Found out that the ticket allotments for each school are only dispersed among the team for family/friends. Season tickets holders play no part in the equation. What's frustrating is if Wisconsin (for example) gives back any tickets, it's not because there aren't Badger fans wanting those tickets. I know it would be tough logistically, but it seems like each school should have had an internal wait list for its fan base. Then after that, any remaining tickets are released back to the Minnesota ticket office.

They (along with Harvard and BC ticket office) never had tickets to sell to the their fans in the first place. I believe that the only school where season ticket holders had an opportunity to buy tickets is Minnesota.

I get that, but the whole situation is way too dicey/impractical for me. I am 4.5 hrs away, I'm going to drive that distance and try and sell them outside the arena or list them on Stubhub and maybe they don't sell? Not.

I think the schools involved should get hundreds of tickets set aside for them to sell/give to player relatives by Wednesday, then the school loses them to the host to sell to the general public.

Interesting that you perennial FF fans are as stymied by this process as are the outliers. Is this a venue-related issue, year-to-year, or the NCAA not paying much attention? You'd think there would be a history here that doesn't depend on Craigslist.

I'm curious because I want to know if I should stand on line at the Whitt first thing Monday morning.

I went straight to the UW women's hockey program for a couple of answers. Was told they were allotted 200 tickets and are predicting they will all be accounted for internally by the team. Gives me some peace of mind that we won't be turning tickets back in.

From a Wisconsin standpoint, I believe this is the first Frozen Four the Badgers have played in where ticket demand outweighs supply and it's venue-related. The times that I've road-tripped for the Frozen Four was when it was at Mariucci Arena and Amsoil Arena.

Venue-related, both in size and with the 'local team' playing/not playing.

Three of the same four teams (with Cornell instead of Harvard) as in 2012. But in 2012, the final four was in a much bigger building (Duluth - Amsoil) and UMD wasn't playing. You could walk up at game time and buy a ticket.

Re: Tickets to FF?

Quinni's Frozen Four sold out before the quarters last year as well, although I know they were selling some standing room tickets a few days before the quarterfinal games.

Wisconsin fans can figure it won't be too tough to find some tickets for Sunday if they make it to the championship game :) or is it

Re: Tickets to FF?

Well, "venue-related" it is, thanks. The Whitt seats 6,500 and UNH is a long shot for 2016, so I'll save myself a trip to Durham next week. But, seriously, it's too bad there's no site that spells this out for those of us who need the spelling out. I guess I'm only commenting because my wife turned to me after the Quinny game and said "Wanna go?" I, correctly, attributed this to temporary euphoria and delicious hot chocolate, but it was tempting and I did some exploring. For those HU/BC fans who are making the trip, please don't tell your hotels what Boston is charging for similar accommodations. It will ruin the Twin Cities as a future winter wonderland for us easterners.

Here's to lots of great hockey for all involved!

Correct. Both are necessary to create the ticket shortage.

Had this tournament been hosted at The X or Mariucci, there would have been plenty of tickets. Had the Gophers been having a rare losing season, there would have been plenty of tickets.

You could even argue that there was a third necessary condition: Knowledge of the 2013 Women's FF. That was a tough ticket and the atmosphere was genuinely electric -- for partisans and neutral fans alike. Anyone who was at Ridder in 2013 could see this coming. No doubt that contributed to the early hard sellout. My guess is that a high percentage of the 2015 crowd will be veterans of the 2013 event.

Any venue that seats fewer than 4000 is likely to see near capacity crowds. As with the men's F4, a very large contingent of fans plans on attending each year, regardless of team affiliation/participation. (Granted the likelihood that the two heavyweights from the WCHA will be part of the mix helps drive this bus.)

Re: Tickets to FF?

I don't think you can argue that the 2013 undefeated season is the single biggest reason for the sellout, and a quick sellout at that. The first time the FF was held at Ridder, in 2010, less than 1500 people were at the Championship game won by Duluth, and only 2000 were there for the Semi-Final when the Gophers were playing UMD. The fact that the 2013 game became such a hard to get ticket, made people realise they couldn't wait to get a ticket this time. I also suspect there were a healthy number of scalpers who saw an opportunity, after what happened with tickets last time, and bought up tickets looking to cash in.

I'm surprised, and impressed, that the demand does seem to be just as strong, even without the historic undefeated mark on the line this time. Make it doubly impressed when you factor in that this time you've also got TWO mens conference tournaments going on at the same time this weekend in the Cities

Re: Tickets to FF?

Well, the waiting list is not an option anymore. I just heard from the Gopher ticket office that none of the visiting teams will be returning any tickets, and so no additional seats will be available for sale.
