This Week In Hockey East

Re: This Week In Hockey East

So the season is underway:

Exhibitions:

Providence with the win over McGill on Saturday
Northeastern with the OT win over McGill on Sunday

Not that I am counting ;) , but PC actually had two wins over McGill this weekend (Friday and Saturday) :)

Re: This Week In Hockey East

I think it was the Windsor Lancers, which is a CIS team from the Ontario based OUA league.

Anyone have any info on teams like McGill, Windsor, Ontario Hockey Academy, Etobicoke, Bluewater, Montreal or Ottawa. These are listed on schedules for Hockeyeast and ECAC teams as exhibitions. Are they College age teams, how do they compare with each other, etc.

I'll give a quick run down on these teams as best as I can....

McGill...Powerhouse College team in the CIS, Plays in the Q. Could be considered a solid D1 team. Squad with mix of youth and very experienced.

Windsor...Mid Pack College team in the CIS. Play in the OUA. Players vary in age from 18 (rookies) to 23 (fifth year vets). Great goalie (from Sudbury).

Ontario Hockey Academy aka OHA...Ontario Int AA team. Similar program to NAHA. Players vary from 15 to 18 years old. Would be a second tier (places 5-10) PWHL team. Won the recent B division at Stoney Showcase. They have several bonafide D1 recruits on their team, including two that have TC-U18 experience.

Etobicoke...Int AA team from the PWHL. Word on the street is an up and coming PWHL team, similar in caliber to OHA. They have one player with TC U18 experience.

Bluewater...Int AA team from the PWHL. Traditionally one of the top 5 teams in the PW, and expected to be the same this year. Several players with TC U18 experience. Many of their former players ply their trade in D1 today.

Montreal.....Not sure which team you are talking about. If it is the CIS team, they are in the same caliber than a Windsor, play in the Q that is dominated by McGill. They have two very standout forward players.

Ottawa...Again are you talking about the PW team or the CIS team ?. CIS team is similar to Montreal CIS team, plays in the Q. The Ottawa PW team is traditionally strong, but not as deep this year as in the past few. Like Bluewater, many of their former players ply their trade in D1 today.

Math Challenged today ?. By my count it is 0 (read zero) HE teams in the top 4. ...... Gotcha :D
(Maybe you should go back to peeping leafs. Leafs around here lay an egg every year :D)

Just Say No To Shootouts!

Just Say No To Shootouts!

SHOOTOUT SHOT DOWN
Shootouts will not return for a third season in Hockey East this year. The league implemented the shootout system in the 2008-09 season and continued it for the 2009-10 season; in those years, if a game remained tied at the end of the five-minute overtime session, both teams received one point in the league standings and the shootout winner earned an additional point.
The shootout system was not beneficial to UNH, which would have been the 2010 regular-season champs without the shootout. In two seasons, the Wildcats competed in six shootouts and were victorious just once.

Re: This Week In Hockey East

Just like the players, it appears that we prognosticaters need some more practice. The one true non-Hockey Eastener was the winner with 10 points (mattj711). I arbitrarily assigned 2 points for each correct guess.
