This Week In Hockey East

Re: This Week In Hockey East

I think I would have to go with these three as well. Historically, UConn has faltered at the end. Granted they had a better January than in the past, but February is a different animal. In addition, their last four games are against PC and NU, so not exactly a cake walk.

Although I got some flack from Cavbim :) (and I have to say, I understand what he is saying), I was looking forward to the UNH/UConn game to see if they were "stoppable" ~ and they were! My prediction is they only get two more points to finish the season.

UConn definitely has a tough grind ahead the next two weekends, but they seem to be a more consistent team this season than in the past. Somewhat the opposite of Providence, UConn typically comes out of the gate fast, then bonks over the last third of the season.

Re: This Week In Hockey East

This IS the weekend! There's a lot on the line for most teams. #1 PC has two games against Vermont, Co#1 UNH has two games against BC and Co#1 UConn has two games against NU (2 points back). Finally, dark horse BU (at two points back) has two games against Maine.

Seeing how miserably I failed last week, I am not making any predictions, just sending a special request for NU to take some points from UConn. :D

The complete schedule is below for anyone else who wants to take a swing.

Fri 02/19/10 Providence at Vermont 7:00 p.m.

Sat 02/20/10 Northeastern at Connecticut 1:00 p.m.
Sat 02/20/10 Boston College at New Hampshire 2:00 p.m.
Sat 02/20/10 Maine at Boston University 3:00 p.m.
Sat 02/20/10 Providence at Vermont 4:00 p.m.

Sun 02/21/10 Connecticut at Northeastern 1:00 p.m.
Sun 02/21/10 Maine at Boston University 3:00 p.m.
Sun 02/21/10 New Hampshire at Boston College 7:00 p.m.

I'm not going there either! Too many moving parts. I am hoping for a 4 point weekend for UNH and Vermont, obviously, and if U Conn and Northeastern would kindly split... Highly unlikely for all of this to take place, but this is the year of the unexpected. Let the games begin!

Re: This Week In Hockey East

Heck, I would be ok with unh sweeping bc and pc getting 3/4 points at uvm :)

Given the amount of work Miss Schelling has seen, and the travel etc. I would think they would want to stay with Miss Sulyma.

Re: This Week In Hockey East

That's what I thought at Frozen Fenway...Sully coming off back-to-back SOs and Flo coming back from an international tournament right before...we shall see :D

Re: This Week In Hockey East

Had to bring this up! Some really smart (and hard-working) girls in Hockey East :) Congrats to all honorees!!

WAKEFIELD, Mass. - Hockey East is pleased to announce that 69 student-athletes have been named to the 2009-2010 WHEA All-Academic Team in its eighth season of play, which was announced on Monday afternoon. Each student-athlete achieved a grade point average (GPA) of 3.0 or better in each of the two academic periods during which she was actively competing.

The University of Vermont and the University of Maine set the standard in the league this year with 12 student-athletes apiece, while Northeastern registered 11 honorees to the All-Academic squad.

The league also boasted a record setting eight student-athletes that received “Distinguished Scholar” status. Those earning “Distinguished Scholar” status achieved a 3.0 or better in each semester over four varsity seasons. BC’s Shannon Webster (Littleton, Col.) and BU’s Jennifer Arms (Chapin, S.C.) achieved the honor, while a trio of Maine forwards earned the award, including Abby Barton (Woodstock, N.B.), Jenna Ouellette (Winnipeg, Man.) and Amy Stech (Duluth, Minn.). Northeastern’s Katy Applin (Palmer, Alaska) and Cassie Sperry (Southlake, Texas) were also recipients of the honor. Vermont forward Brittany Nelson (Shelburne, Vt.) round out the group of four-year acheivers.

For the first time in league history, four league student-athletes earned 4.0 GPA’s as the league’s Top Scholar-Athlete. Applin, Arms, New Hampshire defenseman Katie Brock (Marblehead, Mass.) and Vermont forward Chelsea Furlani (Colchester, Vt.) all earned 4.00 GPA’s in the academic year. Applin and Arms earned the WHEA Top Scholar-Athlete distinction for the second consecutive season.
