Re: The WJC Thread. USA! USA! USA!

Wow. What a cheapshot. That scumbag should be happy he wasn't taken out on a stretcher. Clear intent and a malicious shot to the head. There's no reason not to just send this kid home right now. The downside to a short international tournament (and age-restricted at that) is that the game can't police itself like it would in any normal league setting. I hope that kid dies of gonorrhea.

A bit surprised to see Kassian get 2 games. That was quite clean of a hit, kept the elbow down, glided in and didn't charge him, etc.

I don't know about the 2 games, but despite what the announcer said, Kassian's shoulder connected with the head/faceshield. You can see it and the players head wouldn't have whipped back the way it did otherwise. (Normally, when stopped by a hit to the chest, momentum would force a player's head forward and down, not backwards and up.) Kassian was raising his shoulder into the check too. But I don't think he had an intent to injur either. He hit a little late and got his shoulder high on player who's head was lower. It is the kind of thing most leagues are trying to police so in my opinion, worthy of at least one game. However, the Slovak player's hit was completely unjustifiable and I wouldn't argue against him being removed from the rest of the tourney.

Per Bob McKenzie on Twitter, Marincin is suspended three games on top of his automatic one game for the Zucker hit and Hrasko is suspended two games on top of the automatic one for the D'Amigo hit.

Good. Marcinin's tournament is probably over. I would have been happier with an on ice beat down.

Marincin also tried to take out Zucker knee to knee in the U18s, so there is a pattern of vigiliante style conduct with him.

Couldn't agree w/ you more. I wonder if that gutless wonder will ever take his cheap-shottery to the pros here in N.America, where he'll have to answer on-ice for such thuggery.

In the NHL, that hit would've warranted a 10+ game suspension (on top of the arse-kicking he would've received before getting tossed from the game).

Re: The WJC Thread. USA! USA! USA!

Wow, Kassian does not deserve two games. Not at all. He got that because they brought the stretcher out.

Hrasko deserves two, and Marincin deserves to go the hell home.

Marincin is an Edmonton Oilers draft pick, so he'll fit right in. ;)

Re: The WJC Thread. USA! USA! USA!

The second head hit should relegate the team. There is no penalty imposable on Marincin that can make up for the Zucker hit. If you have no control over your players, your team needs to spend at least a year in the 2nd division.

Too bad fighting is not permitted in international play. ;)

You know what was interesting?

After the game, the players who the press/media requested go to what is called a "Mixing Zone" to be interviewed. It's essentially a free for all, and both teams are out there at the same time.

However, the coaches go on a stage together in a more formal press conference. Not after this game. They directed the coaches (though I didn't see the Slovakia coach, but I wasn't paying attention to him either) to the mixing zone. Well, Keith Allain had extremely harsh things to say about the Slovakia hits. Though, he wouldn't comment on possible suspensions (that would probably get him in trouble), he called the hit on Zucker, "a vicious, dirty hit." I suspect they purposely directed him to the mixing zone, because they did not want the opposing coaches to be sitting next to each other on the stage while Allain laid into the Slovakia style of play...

Any word on the Zucker, Morin, and Nelson injuries?

Re: The WJC Thread. USA! USA! USA!

If it it is anything like the way he reports injuries at Yale, Allain will not even tell the injured player that he is injured. VERY secretive.

What injuries?

He's like that with every freaking question you ask him!!

What color is the sky?

I don't have anything to say about that...

Re: The WJC Thread. USA! USA! USA!

I'd say its hopeful rather than good news. Mike Chambers is sharing his opinion here on the severity of the injury, and hopfeully Mike's opinion was' further informed' by contact with Alex Clark, Team USA's media relations person. However, since Mike did not quote Clark directly on the serverity of the Zucker injury, other than "day to day, no practice and unkown on playing vs Germany" Mike's information has to be viewed with more scrutiny. If Clark told Mike 'off the record' that Jason would be okay or not serious, perhaps Chambers' well informed "opinion" can be taken as authortitative. That's what I am hoping. If Clark wouldn't give him any more info, then Chambers would be giving medical opinions, which despite how great Mike is, the last time I checked, he didn't go to medical school.

The long and short of it is, I think Mike wouldn't give a medical opinion without some solid background information.

Re: The WJC Thread. USA! USA! USA!

All that's a given Swami. It can all change fast (as we remember from the Jessie situation). I like your choice of words "hopeful". Zucks a tough kid. The Yale coach is notorious for not saying anything on injuries. There's been no word on any of the three injuries players. Judging by what Mike shared as opinion, I'm hopeful we'll see #17/16 before we face TC and most importantly for DU, back in action on 1.14 in Mankato.
