Shootout to win it

Swedes win it in the SO. Roy looked weak on both goals.

Is anyone else concerned about the US defense? To me, they look out of sync and sloppy in their own end. They are giving up the blue line and when the US plays better teams, I think this will haunt them.

Another issue is the US defense's inability to put shots on the net from the points with quick releases. To me, they seem very slow to move the puck.

The D has yet to really be tested and when they face Russia or Canada, they will be.

One thing I've noticed about the USA roster, is that if your school isn't getting kids on this team on a fairly regular basis, your chances of winning an NCAA title are slim to none. Obviously the schools with the best talent are going to win more often than not, but it seems like the days when you could win a D-1 title with a bunch of overage players may be a thing of the past.

I guess it isn't Yale's year after all, then. :(

Never say never, but the way it's shaping up, even if Yale is the #1 overall seed, they'll probably end up having to play someone like Michigan, Denver or Miami in the quarterfinals, then play two against the likes of North Dakota, BC, UNH, etc to win it all. Not impossible, but certainly no easy task.

You could say that about any of the top four seeded teams, it's all about who gets hot at the end, the regular season is out the window and whoever wins three games straight against the teams chosen will get the title. Everyone thought that UND was going to walk through first round last year, and that BC would be the title game in the semis, but I guess things changed. The number of elite programs has been pretty static for many years, I think we have more programs approaching that status and the teams in the traditional status quo just can't comprehend that any teams other than the "chosen ones" would dare approach thier level.

It takes 4 to win the title...three only gets you to the cusp.

Winning 1 game in the NCAA Tournament, regardless of who it was against, does not make an elite team. If Yale manages to make a run to the Frozen Four this year, and then backs it up with subsequent trips and wins a title or two over the next 5-10 years, then they will be considered an elite team. You have to EARN your respect as an elite team. There is a reason why UND, BC and others are considered "elite". They have proven it over the course of decades of success in the NCAA Tournament. Yale has won 1 NCAA game in 50 years.
