The Winter Weather thread - 2010 - 2011. Shovel this!!

Re: The Winter Weather thread - 2010 - 2011. Shovel this!!

Woo hoo! Just heard on the news that Minneapolis/St Paul didn't get above freezing for the whole month. So, we better have a long summer in return, goddamit.

Also saw on the news that is has snowed here 28 of the 31 days of January.

I swear it got above last Friday and maybe even Saturday, albeit barely. Then again, they go off the airport, not Coon Rapids.

Yes, they do. According to them, New Hope got 3.8" and that was the closest suburb to me that they reported. I know Minnetonka got more than that. Probably closer to 5". Something about that highway 394 border, I swear. I've experienced very different weather sometimes as soon as I cross that highway.

After a quick google search, the high was 32 degrees on the nuts. It looks like -19 was the lowest temp. I'm sure there's more reliable data out there, but I'm too lazy.

Re: The Winter Weather thread - 2010 - 2011. Shovel this!!

So I was all ready to go to work today, had my driveway cleared, etc. My street was not plowed at ALL and I spun my wheels for about 5 feet, then pulled back into the driveway and decided to work from home. I should get credit, though. :p

The life-threatening, vicious, paralyzing, historic blizzard is set to start at 3 pm.

Just a light dusting here in SE Michigan, just enough to make a little bit slick out there. It wasn't really that bad other than for all the other idiots out on the roadway. Traffic was backed up halfway to State street on us12 going over 23 this morning.

It is hilarious how people are freaking out over this storm, when if we had the same thing in Houghton when I was in school, we'd call it "Tuesday".

Yes, but nobody lives in Houghton. The media are freaking out because this thing will hit places where people actually live :p

Our idiot neighbor is out blowing snow. She's lived in Virginia too long.

I feel like opening the door and telling her that you use the snowblower after the storm.

Wow - hope you're stocked up on bread and milk!

Ice-apocalypse. YAWN!!

Just another day that I'm glad I no longer work at the weather company that I will never name.

Snow snob. And I say that with approval.

Chicagoland schools are closing early today, and have announced they'll be closed tomorrow due to the Blizzaster coming.

My boss? He's working from home tomorrow, but our office will still be open.

It is currently 10 degrees colder in Dallas, Texas than in Anchorage.

They're not plowing here in Southern New Hampster - at least not yet. We have about 3"-5" on the ground (and roads) plus some lovely ice underneath. Fun little drive back from picking up the oldest at school...hit a part of a soft snowbank as I was turning off the main road and into the driveway (luckily at 10mph). :(

Re: The Winter Weather thread - 2010 - 2011. Shovel this!!

Swept about an inch of sleet off my car this morning and made it in on time. Roads weren't great, but I think they were trying to get some snow base to catch the ice before plowing and avoid making the roads a sheet of black ice.

Roads right now (5 PM) seem to be clear. The ice is scheduled to start in the next hour and continue until morning. It might get ugly tomorrow. That is, if I bother to drive anywhere.

I'll by some bread and milk tonight

9 1/2 inches today and the bad part of the storm is tomorrow. We were supposed to have 4 inches. oops, they underestimated again.
