No respect at all in the HE preseason review for a team that has been to two consecutive NCAA tournaments and returns nearly the same D and goaltending. Yup, questions up front and the loss of Pacan is crushing, but I still think the Cats have the makeup to surprise.
I hope the lack of respect from the media and coaches and underdog status motivates them.
Medvec did not return for any other reason than to dominate at this level.
40-0 wouldn't silence "certain" critics....
Would like to see a replay of that goal that was disallowed via a tripping call on Downing. If may have been a legitimate call but Sneddon certainly was not happy with it and he's usually a straight shooter. That was a huge momentum swing, if that one counts the Cats are up 3 and looking very good.
Some real bad bounces are what let Denver back into the game. their first goal the puck bounced right over the blade of the UVM Dman to create a turnover. UVM had several other near goals where the puck bounce don them.
And PLEASE hit the net with some shots. Stalburg got all alone in the slot and whipped it high and wide.....
Murray prevented a late tie when he gloved that one timer right in front off Downings stick. What a sick set up by MacKenzie. That was almost a certain goal but it just hit the open glove. The guy next to me was already jumping up celebrating it looked so certain to be a goal.
All in all I liked the play from VT except their power play. Like usual that was pretty much abysmal. My next Victory Club donation is in the name of a powerplay consultant.
I thought Bruneteau had a couple of rough plays defensively but I like him with the puck. He's going to be our top assist D for the next four years, possibly better than anyone we have seen in a UVM uniform in a LONG time.
Brickley also impressed. UVM's first line looked better than I woudl have expected. Overall I thought they outplayed Denver but Murray was infinitely better than Madore. I was disappointed with Madore as he got eaten alive up high and four goals on the first 18 shots does not get it done.
Tough call for the referee, I was sitting down on that end near the glass. When the DU player came around the net, he was slipping and fumbling the puck; Downing was reaching for the puck. There was no trip but since the DU player went down and the net & goalie blocked the ref's vantage point, it was a phantom call. It is going to happen, heck it happens more than once in every game.Would like to see a replay of that goal that was disallowed via a tripping call on Downing. Sometimes domination by a player doesn't necessarily show up in the box score with goals and assists. Other things like hits, stopping Zucker on a one on one with minimal effort, making the 1st pass out of the D zone like defensement are supposed to do can be considered good things.Don't have to worry about that now...
I'm assuming Medvec didn't "dominate at this level" during Denver?![]()
Although I think it was defensive breakdowns that made Madore look bad.
The UVM AD just killed the refs from Friday nights game on the radio broadcast. Usually you don't hear someone in that position be that opinioniated. He is claiming they reviewed the tapes and the UVM disallowed goal and the first Denver goal were both incorrect calls. Just shows you how momentum plays a huge role in the college game --
Did the AD say anything about the 7 power plays UVM was awarded vs. 1 for Denver on Friday?![]()
Seriously, I thought the reffing was very good in both games and they let the players play for the most part- enabling lots of speed and flow, and produced very entertaining hockey.
UVM showed better discipline on the weekend.
Any news on Staceys injury??
