The University of Vermont Official 2010-2011 Season Thread : Part 1

Re: The University of Vermont Official 2010-2011 Season Thread : Part 1

Hey Cat fans ...
I'm disappointed in you ... I come in here looking for your views on two spectacular games against BC and all I find is people trying to one up the insults from a couple of UML idiots.
The Cats just had their best weekend of the year ... focus on that!
Ignore the idiots and their moronic comments and maybe they will finally get bored and go away!

Re: The University of Vermont Official 2010-2011 Season Thread : Part 1

they're speed [sic]

Good God I hope you didn't actually attend UVM. Your inability to form a coherent sentence would have me thinking less of Vermont. You know, besides THEIR laughably mediocre hockey team.

Sorry, I meant "their". And I actually achieved a degree in physics and I am applying to graduate school to pursue a PhD in astrophysics. Excuse me for my brainfart. I'm pretty sure I'm leagues smarter than you. Actually, I'm positive, based on the moronic statements and poorly constructed fallacies you consistently blurt. Please, stay out of this thread, ace. I wouldn't have brought up my academic credentials if you hadn't erroneously called me an idiot. You're just an insecure POS. And again, STAY OUT of this thread. Vermont fans don't unwarrantedly post in your thread. Take note of the word "unwarrantedly." This means that you, yes you, instigate with snide comments in our thread. Can you, with your trashmass lowell degree, follow what I just said? (I do assume you went to that joke of an institution) It's also a craphole compared to UVM's campus :-) I'm expecting you or goon to immaturely neg-rep me on this...

We've tried to ignore them. They never go away. Ever. They're like a disease, or infestation, if you will.

Re: The University of Vermont Official 2010-2011 Season Thread : Part 1

The Cats did play two great games this weekend. They could of won both games. It shows that they can play with any team in the country.
I thought all four lines played well. We did still lose more faceoffs then we won but BC is very good at faceoffs. Madore was outstanding again and saved us on a few turnovers. The defense had a much better weekend as well. This young team (up front) will keep getting better with more game experience. Franzon out this weekend anyone know if he has an injury?

Re: The University of Vermont Official 2010-2011 Season Thread : Part 1

I hope you Vermont fans keep bringing this up for the rest of the season, it's ridiculously entertaining. Somehow the date Lowell last played in the NCAA tournament is relative to the looooooong winless streak that UVM is entrenched in.

The only unfortunate thing about this streak is that Vermont gets to play Amherst, also winless, next week. Someone is going to climb out of the cellar. I,for one, am hoping for a pair of ties.

Good call.

Re: The University of Vermont Official 2010-2011 Season Thread : Part 1

luckily for vermont fans, being unreasonably stupid is not yet a criminal offense

Unfortunately for UML fans, being crack heads is... Suppose the rotation through the penal system maybe the reason Lowell can't sell out a game..

Re: The University of Vermont Official 2010-2011 Season Thread : Part 1

Huge win for UVM this weekend. It's exactly what was needed to get them back on the right track. THey got a win in a way it's better then if they had won against UML or PC and then got swept this weekend. Its a confidence booster...not only can they win, they can do it against the best teams in the country and they can compete with the best teams in the country. They have played the top teams and been competitive, finally some reward for it. Let's hope this is a learning moment, play hard, play smart and this team can be competitive.

So far this is how UVM ranks up with the rest of HE , and I know its early, but at the same time we are nearly a quarter of the way through league play :

GF Average :

ME 4.2:eek:
BC 2.71
PC 2.71
BU 2.63
UVM 2.5
UNH 2.4
UMA 2.16
UML 2
MC 2
NU 1.83

Surprisingly despite how inept the the offense has looked for most of the year UVM is a respectable 4th overall, and again yes I know it's early.

GAA :

UNH 1.4
BU 1.75
ME 2
MC 2.17
BC 2.43
PC 2.43
NU 2.67
UVM 2.83
UMA 3
UML 3.75

Equally surprising is the defense was thought to be a strength but right now has UVM ranking 7th.

OR course non of this takes into account SOS at this point.

Regardless, nothing outside of points really matter and their the cats are still lacking. Hopefully UMA can provide some relief.:)

And I still find it funny that UMLgoon was making fun of Vermont's defense, when guess which team is ranked last in the league in defense? Oh....that's right....

Re: The University of Vermont Official 2010-2011 Season Thread : Part 1

when on earth did i say anything at all about the vermont defense?

Re: The University of Vermont Official 2010-2011 Season Thread : Part 1

Just wanted add to what others have said. Great win against BC. There is indeed parity and balance this year in Hockey East.

Thank you, Puck Voice. I was going to post something similar. I, too, come on to get a sense of the games from those who attend. I appreciate comments from Snwbrdr and Oglethorpe and a few others. Please refrain from responding to the bait and they will go away and bother someone else.

PS: Enjoyed your call of the game Saturday night. Are you still doing the Norwich games on WDEV this year?

Re: The University of Vermont Official 2010-2011 Season Thread : Part 1

I made the game Friday and was happy to see, like the Maine game, the boys hang with a top tier 10-11' team and know they can beat these teams.

Watched the Sat game on tv and was psyched to hear Puck Voice calling the game. Needs to be a fixture calling these games. I did catch the Norw...oops when giving the score I think at the end of one of the periods. McCune did well as color too. The toe drag behind the net attempt to tuck it in upper corner reference you were looking for is Mike Legg from Michigan, the first to do it as far as I know. Was a ballsy try by Whitney Sat night and Lawson obviously took exception, I liked the response actually...one of don't try that shi@#1 in our house. Lenes tried that several times and sometimes on the road. Hey man if you can pull that play off all the power to you, it's a legal goal...a little showy but it's a goal, defend it. The cats feed off playing physical it appears so hopefully that becomes an identity.

For the first time, Saturday I saw the lines and it felt like yeah, that's some combinations that add up. I like the all fresh line, Lenz and Brickley bring the wood...both are good for a couple crowd pleasing checks a game. Descenzo fits well and supports the play with them well...Leonard might also be a nice fit there for a shift or two. The all soph line has some good speed and energy too, they seem to like playing together. Most overall talent on that line probably and it's nice looking ahead to know those 2 lines have 2.5 plus years to go. The White line has Wahs and Downing who you know will get you chances and the Leonard line is a great line especially if considering it the fourth line (with Burrows and Marshall). Herrington has improved from last season, is bigger, stronger and looks like he belongs in a game this year. D was pretty solid, Miller is having a solid season, last year was a little inconsistent but is attempting to be a factor in every game. Madore was amazing, simply amazing.

Hope last weekend was the boost they need, they probably wish they were playing this Tuesday, Friday and Sunday but I'm sure they'll use practice wisely and come out motivated next Tuesday in Amherst. I swithced over to radio after the game and thought I heard Wojcik signing off like he was doing it for the last time, is he moving?

uvmcats and Ogilthorpe ... thanks for the kind words ... yes I'm still doing all the Norwich games, starting with their opener on Friday. But Jack Healey and I are getting the chance to do several UVM games (hockey and hoop) on NSN, CatamountTV and WCAXtra and we are pumped. Getting to do the first win of the season against a great team like BC the other night was a blast.

As for Woj, he is leaving to become the media relations director of the Phoenix Coyotes ... Allistair Ingram, the voice of women's basketball is taking over as the radio Voice of the Hockey Catamounts.

Re: The University of Vermont Official 2010-2011 Season Thread : Part 1

went to both games this past weekend and on saturday,i think they played their best game to date.what impressed me the most was the offensive preasure they appplied that resulted in many scoring opportunities the entire night.that seems like e recipee for success.it was entertaining to see them use their speed to play offense.they seem to be able to skate with any team and the freshmen have adjusted to the speed and quickness of the d1 game.if they play like they did on sat--good results will follow.

Re: The University of Vermont Official 2010-2011 Season Thread : Part 1

Was going to start a thread for the UMA game this weekend, but as far as I can tell there aren't any UMA fans on the forum.

I really think that the win will make a huge difference going forward in terms of confidence for this team. With the monkey off their back it should go along way. Also very nice to see the frosh line contribute some offense. Brickley, Lenz and Decenzo all have a ton of energy, speed, and skill. That said they seem to focus in playing and being physical and I thought the HT Lenz quote was a little telling in that. Both he an Conner were planning on going with a hit initially. With their speed I would like to see them focus really on trying to get to the puck, throw a few hits but with the talent they possess making an offensive play first, hit second would be nice.

Now it would be nice to see White start getting in on things. He plays well, and it will come.

UMA hasn't won a game yet but they have been in all of them and have squeaked out ties with UNH and BU. Dainton is solid in net and although they lost Marcou and Wellman they're still putting up decent offensive numbers. Should be a decent challenge for the Cats coming of the win at BC. As long as the D continues to play decent and the Offense continues to generate some scoring they should be fine. Liked the lines in Sat. game. Stalberg and McCarthy seem to have gotten into a bit of a groove. Those two need to be strong from here on out.

Re: The University of Vermont Official 2010-2011 Season Thread : Part 1

Am I off base on these thoughts?

1. A young team up front making mistakes being saved by a great college goaltender.

2. An underperforming defense being saved by a great college goaltender.

3. A talented group of role players in the freshman and sophomore classes.

4. They need to get back to Sneddon's philosophy early on at UVM where they were blocking more shots than the goaltender.

5. They need to roll the regular lines through the power play. They don't have the offensive horses and they gain absolutely nothing with the man advantage. Two of this team's extra attacker goals have come on delayed penalties, with no set up at all. Just one team playing hockeywith more players on the ice than the other. That last sentence sounds silly, I know.

All of these things can happen early on with Madore in net. Without him, UVM is dead. With him, this team has a chance to be very good by the end of the year. Unfortunately, giving away points to the UML and Providences of Hockey East early on will hurt their Hockey East standings and will come back and bit them in the butt when the NCAA seedings come out.

1.) Yes
2.) Not sure underperforming is the right word here
3.) I would scratch "role players". There is a talented group of frosh and soph forwards period.
4.) That was Sneddon's philosophy because there wasn't the talent up front. Yes blocking shots is critical and needs to be done, but the switch has been made to try and play a more open game with the increase in forward talent.
5.) The PP is better then it has been which isn't saying much. PLaying like you are at even strength really isn't an option as the other team isn't going to. The simple fact is they need to change their PP game plan from trying to feed a guy down low to good passing on the blue line with shots from the point and some forwards around the net.

The UML and PC won't hurt UVM in the seedings that bad, they won't be TUC's. The loss to DU will as it hurts H2H COP etc. Either way the SOS isn't huge this year with a lot of ECAC games on tap and Yale being the only schedule TUC. But Waaaaaaaaay too early to start predictions.

There are a few of us.

UMass is a young team. I like most UMass fans have 0 expectations for this year due to the the amount we lost from last years team. I'm hoping that this year will be a learning experience and we'll reap the benefits in the next couple of seasons.

From what I've seen, they won't quit regardless of the circumstances. See, for example, the second game in Minnesota. Dainton goes down with an injury in the first period leaving Jeff Teglia to make his college debut, and the Gophers head into the first intermission with a 3-0 lead. Honestly, I turned the game on at the end of the first, and heard Dainton was hurt, saw the score, and prepared for a blow out. The final score ended up being 5-4, and they played pretty well in my opinion.

I have Wednesday off so I'm gonna try to make it out for this game. Should be plenty of tickets available as I assume most students will be home for Thanksgiving.

Re: The University of Vermont Official 2010-2011 Season Thread : Part 1

This thread needs a bit of a wake up call. Seems a bit dead. Any thoughts/predictions for Tuesday night's tilt against umass?
