The University of Vermont Official 2010-2011 Season Thread : Part 1

Re: The University of Vermont Official 2010-2011 Season Thread : Part 1

"Sneddon said few of the errors can be attributed to an emphasis the team has placed on offensive contributions from the defensemen, something that’s necessary while young forwards adjust and mature."

If there's been an emphasis on offensive contributions from the defensemen, it's certainly not showing up on the scoreboard!

Tell me about it. Geez......blaming the defense when the offense is averaging 2.00 goals a game?

Seems a bit misplaced.

While the offense has been puttering along that was too be expected going into the season. What wasn't expected was a veteran laden d-corps giving up grade a chances that has led to giving up late game leads and costing, last weekend 3 points. I think that is where the blame comes from. UVM knew going in there were going to be a lot of low scoring close games that would require steady defense. What has happened is low scoring games in which the defense is giving up late goals resulting in ties and losses.

Yes the offense needs to find some scoring and as the Frosh come along they will to some extent. In the meantime the defense needs to keep them in the game. Madore has been very good in net, but he is getting hung out to dry all to often. Offense skating around Lawson has led to at least two goals I can think of right off the top of my head. Lawson isn't going to chase anyone down so he needs to either position himself better or step up and cream the guy as opposed to skating backwards while the guy burns out around him.

I'd take 2 points as a huge victory this weekend. Not so sure it'll happen, but it would be a step in the right direction.

This is a big weekend a split would be nice. If Marshall and Nilsson-Roos are back would give us more speed in the line-up anyone know on them? If Madore can have a big weekend we will be in the hunt. Go Cats !!

Roos, is skating but hasn't been cleared to play. Marshall????

You sure I heard they both may be playing? Lets hope the Cats can get some offense going this weekend.

Re: The University of Vermont Official 2010-2011 Season Thread : Part 1

This will be the last 2 games for Play by Play man Chris Wojcik, he scored a sweet gig with the Phoenix Coyotes!
Chris was in the booth for many UVM highlights for both the Men's hockey and Men's basketball teams
Best of luck Chris

Re: The University of Vermont Official 2010-2011 Season Thread : Part 1

Good luck this weekend, everyone.

I really feel like a split is likely here and Vermont will have their first win of the season by the end of the weekend. But I guess we'll see. BC has historically not done well up there, has had some injuries pile up, and at this point I think it's the law of averages for UVM finally getting on the board with a W.

Thanks, good luck to you too. I'd be happy with that split you're predicting.

Hey guys I will help you out with this Doorknob UML Goon. The way I see it UVM made a Frozen Four recently (Awesome). UML well I am afraid (Doormats). Haven't seen much from them! Now why dont you go back to your own little thread Lil Goon! By the way I am an outsider not from Vermont. So UML Goon maybe your UML team can maybe make it to the DQ for a Frozen Cake!

Dont waste your time berating him, snapdog. Not worth it ;) He's like a cleveland browns fan gloating over beating the new england patriots. The only difference is that the browns are actually pretty good and they haven't accomplished anything. UML is not good, nor have they ever accomplished anything.

The problem has been with the defense. If you saw the Lowell game the forwards gain possession use the d and then either a turnover or totally ill advised shot on goal. Watch the PP. The forwards are playing well, they then use the D and possession is over. Its problematic. On Lowell's shorthanded goal last week, the forward who was in the offensive zone (McCarthy???) busted it back after a d turnover and tipped the puck and there was still no d support after the tip. The good thing is the discipline is there and once the on ice chemistry sharpens they have alot of potential. Dont get me wrong though, the forwards need to score too.

UGHH. Another really gutsy performance by the Cats. Played their hearts out. Just a bit-o-puck luck short. Keep your heads up boys. I want to see video of that post by Downing in the 3rd. Really liked the energy of the all freshman line. Once Again Madore was very good. Nick Bruneteau is really solid on D.
Saw a real burst of speed from Stalberg at one point on a back check. Looked like another gear. Where has that been? Can we have more of that?

UVM easily played their best game of the year tonight. Wish they converted in the third period (rung the post). Woulda tied the game. But you have to move on. Lots of positives to take from this game, as you just said. If they can play like this consistently, and that's a big if, the wins will come. Unfortunately, they really can't afford to drop any more games. They need to go on a run, and tonight may have shown a glimmer of hope.

And include the shot off the bar in the second period.

Re: The University of Vermont Official 2010-2011 Season Thread : Part 1

vermont fans have now gone 244 days without seeing their team win.

that's 21,081,600 seconds
or 351,360 minutes
or 5856 hours
or 35 weeks

just a helpful reminder.

I hope you Vermont fans keep bringing this up for the rest of the season, it's ridiculously entertaining. Somehow the date Lowell last played in the NCAA tournament is relative to the looooooong winless streak that UVM is entrenched in.

The only unfortunate thing about this streak is that Vermont gets to play Amherst, also winless, next week. Someone is going to climb out of the cellar. I,for one, am hoping for a pair of ties.

Re: The University of Vermont Official 2010-2011 Season Thread : Part 1

wouldn't the joke be that you think vermont is good this season because of something that happened two years ago?

LOL. That's harsh, buddy. But we got the predictable "we've made a Frozen Four and you haven't" reply rather quickly. So at least that was worth it!
