The University of Vermont Official 2010-2011 Season Thread : Part 1

Re: The University of Vermont Official 2010-2011 Season Thread : Part 1

UML 3 UVM 1

How could the announcers on the UVM broadcast say with a straight face "Vermont played great for 58 minutes????" They scored 1 friggin goal!!!

Right now the Cats have NO ONE who can put the puck in the net. :(

Re: The University of Vermont Official 2010-2011 Season Thread : Part 1

How's that disappointment taste? This UVM team is pretty awful, especially losing to this particular UML team.

UML is now 5-0-3 in their last 8 against UVM. I'd safely call that domination.
It doesn't taste good, thanks.

And I'd have to agree 5-0-3 is domination. Congrats again to UML for getting the job done.

Re: The University of Vermont Official 2010-2011 Season Thread : Part 1

0-4 on the power play and giving up a short-handed goal. DECLINE THE PENALTIES. (I know that it isn't an option, but it could be the "Vermont Rule")
The 2 PP goals against Maine were both two man advantages.

The 1st goal vs Main was 5v4 with a delayed call where goalie was pulled, making it 6v4.
Fans who sit around me have been saing for a while sthere should be the opportunity to decline the powerplay b/c they don't help the team.
Shots were higher, but still not high enough nor accurate.
The short handed goal reminded me of last week with the skater breaking around Lawson....he has the size....play the man, not the puck.
Let's hope for the W tonight, as from last night's appearance, the time will be steamrolled by BC (I know, great games vs Maine and Denver, but after last night....)

Re: The University of Vermont Official 2010-2011 Season Thread : Part 1

Noticed in the 2nd period, one of the linesmen left the game. Did they mention on radio or B2 what might have happened? The game finished with two refs and one linesman.

Re: The University of Vermont Official 2010-2011 Season Thread : Part 1

After watching competitive games against Denver, Maine, and Merrimack it's clear last night was an off night for the Cats. Not sure what happened, maybe taking UML a little too much for an easy win or what, but what is clear is that this team has to figure out a way to score. It doesnt have to be pretty it just needs to cross the line. While just throwing the puck on net isn't ideal UVM needs to do just that, and get a man parked there. They have some good size ...get someone there... Brickley, White, Stalberg, Downing...let Wahs, Burrows, McCarthy cycle and shoot. Bang home some rebounds.

And I agree that the D needs to be physical. The largest Defense in hockey isnt going to win many foot races and they play very very conservative. Sometimes you gotta stand up and throw a body on some players.

I hope that was a wake up call for them. PC looks to be the stronger team and if it weren't for those decent games against upper level teams I would start taking a "jon" attitude about this team.

He was on on the wrong end of 2 UVM players hitting a UML player in the beginning of the glass next to the UVM bench. He went in there head first and it didn't look like it was a good time for him.

Re: The University of Vermont Official 2010-2011 Season Thread : Part 1

maybe he was just physically sickened by the game vermont was playing. i know i was.

The bad news is that Alex Beaudry just got a shut out.
the good news it that I'll be at the Coffin tonight and I have never seen PC beat UVM. So there's a chance.

I would start taking a "jon" attitude about this team.
I'm not sure how to take this.

I would be more sick about another near empty rink. Where did all those great UML fans go?

That 3733 figure must be counting empty seats.

Re: The University of Vermont Official 2010-2011 Season Thread : Part 1

This article was in the Burlington Free Press this morning about a potential new arena:

Read it this morning too. It says "Current facilities don't meet conference standards and thus exclued UVM from hosting postseason tournaments."

Last I knew, Hockey East always had their final at the Garden, and AmericaEast finals are at the leading school. And of course don't forget about Centenial Field not up to MLB standards.
What is wrong with Gutterson? Is it locker rooms, capacity, playing surface? If you have insight, please share.

Not sure what it is that keeps it from being Tourney eligible. Locker rooms I think, and likely seating capacity. If the NCAA were to get rid of regionals and let the host school actually host that means it would never occur at the Gutt....

Re: The University of Vermont Official 2010-2011 Season Thread : Part 1

This team has no idea how to close out games. They also have no discipline whatsoever. Losing to a shoddy UML and Providence team means that Vermont is also not as good as I was hoping they'd be....I see a very young team that's going to make too many mistakes this year. I'm not going to abandon ship, but it's safe to say an NCAA bid and home ice are out of the picture for this year. Getting to the conference post season at all would be a plus.

I'll try to stay a bit more positive and go with, we are now tied with UMA for last place instead of holding it all to our own. Not sure what the hell is going on with them but this should have been a 4 pt weekend, instead they got 1. I have a feeling the boys are going to get a couple of extra practices in this week and possibly a shake up in goal before the next game... Just my $0.02

If the definition of "shoddy" has somehow morphed into "superior", then your post would be correct. I don't claim to know everything about this Lowell team, but I have figured out two absolute truths: 1) they're a young team getting better every game, and 2) they're better than Vermont. Neither is debatable.

Should have been a 4 point weekend!?!? You're squad hasn't won A game yet, and you're expecting to sweep? What have you seen from this slow, clunky Catamount team that leads you to believe they're better than anyone in Hockey East right now?

Tie to Denver, OT Loss to Maine....enough to say UVM is competitive, when they play a full 60 minutes. Over the past few years, the team seems to play to their competition, wheter a stronger or weaker team.

Re: The University of Vermont Official 2010-2011 Season Thread : Part 1

The team is competitive, although they have little scoring punch right now. The team will get better as the year goes on, but they definitely need more scoring punch to starting winning games. Keep in mind we lost a lot of scoring last year, so this should not be a huge surprise.

It is also way to early to write them off for a NCAA bid, we only have six games under the belt. Although based on their play so far, a NCAA bid is probably a pipe dream. We have BC coming to the Gutt for a pair this weekend, now is the time to turn it around or else....we are in full rebuilding season mode.
