THE University of MICHIGAN 2021-22

So what lines did Pearson cross at Tech considering you were all butthurt when he left?

From an outsider's point of view it looks like they were pissed that Pearson left for a higher profile job, one that would pay him a lot more money at a place he had deep and fond connections to and where he enjoyed great success. You know, the kinds of things that virtually every single other person would have done. Clearly it means Pearson = Satan.

Except it wasn't going to pay him more, Tech matched Michigan's offer.

Mel is also a Tech grad, got his start in coaching at Tech and obviously has a lot of connections to Tech in that way.

I don't hold it against him for leaving, just pointing out that your arguments aren't necessarily great ones.

OK then what lines did he cross at Tech?

Some of the lines Mel potentially crossed at UM

The accusations summarized in Berman’s letter include:
  • Head coach Mel Pearson “instructing students to lie on their COVID-19 tracing forms.”
  • Pearson and Director of Hockey Operations Rick Bancroft discriminating against female staffers and “creating a toxic work environment for female support staff.”
  • Pearson retaliating against a student athlete for “raising concerns” about the hockey team’s culture.
  • Bancroft knowing about sexual misconduct committed by the late athletic doctor Robert Anderson.

I never said he did or didn't cross any lines, I'm not in the know about what he may or may not have done at Tech, I only commented on the fact that it was said he would make more at Michigan which isn't true as Tech matched the offer and that he also has deep connections to Tech.

Umm I asked what lines he crossed at Tech

"Locker room culture is very difficult to change and when making changes it comes with growing pains. The locker room culture is much improved over the past 3 years. When Joe [Shawhan] took the reins it was not in a good place."

word-by-word quote from our athletic director in an e-mail to me in february of 2020.

crossing the toxicity line that seems to parallel the some of the accusations at uofm... but did he do anything illegal while at tech? not to my knowledge...

ummm, ok but you used it in a pejorative way. It was meant as an insult and taken as such.

Back 5 years ago now there was a young teenage girl in rural Alabama who happened to be gay. A trump rally came to Birmingham and the airwaves were filled with right wing condemnation of gay people. The next morning her farmer father found her hanging in the barn and cut her down. One can only imagine the feeling she had to have prior to taking her own life that way, or the feelings of her father while he cut her down.
I say this because being gay is not a choice. Teachers can't promote gayness because even if they wanted to it wouldn't work. I think what Democrats are trying to say is that wouldn't it be better for society as a whole to find a way to accommodate gay people rather than have things like this happen. Don't Gay people have a right to love whoever they want? Isn't it better to love someone, anyone, rather than go thru life by yourself? And how does that negatively affect you anyway? If that philosophy is being Woke, then i'm guilty.

That is clearly political and completely unrelated. Not to mention anecdotal.

Sounds like something an AD would say after the best coach his school had in years left for a better job. Because of the Anderson situation, Michigan is doing a bigger investigation of these complaints than most schools would do. If the program is so toxic, why aren't more players leaving? It's pretty rare to see Michigan players in the transfer portal. Hopefully Michigan gets this investigation report soon so they can give Mel the extension he deserves. Mel's tweeting today about next season, so looks like he thinks he will be back.

per the detroit news article;

"Michigan hockey coach Mel Pearson remains as head coach despite his original five-year contract expiring Saturday without an extension in place."

so... he is the coach and he is not the coach. i guess folks in the uofm english department are having a hands-on in-house example of what an oxymoron is. ...or maybe it's a paradox. but a pandora's box it surely is. good for them.

with an expired contract and an extension not in place... he is "still" the coach. right, right, right... "he will be fine."

the choices (or lack of) being made just go to show how serious the allegations and investigation are. but i will say uofm is playing the cards right by not having him under contract; that way they don't have to release the report if they decide to part ways. this is the best reality tv show i have ever watched...

Self-identifying as a coach? Just throwing it out there.

You are assuming that there's not a temporary extension in place. Having one makes logical sense when you have an investigation to finish before a decision is made.

BTW, in your "evidence" where does it say that Mel's not the coach anymore? My English may be poor, but I read that the contract expired but he's still the HC. Neither of us have any idea what is going on in the background, but given what continues to be the "official" position, sure seems that there's a temporary extension in place.

And I did say that he could still be let go, but all of the easy predictions have not come true- else the announcement that there was a major opening in the Athletic Department would have been made so that it could be filled as quickly as possible. Clearly the "seriousness" of the situation has not warranted 1) and immediate firing, 2) the contract being just let go at the end of term, and 3) an exodus of players from the program.

Not sure why this is so interesting to you- it's pretty freaking boring without any news being said. Literally nothing unusual has happened- the players who went pro were completely expected, having one player de-commit is hardly shocking, and none of the predictions that were supposed to happen by now have happened. Kind of reminds me of a group of people and an election that recently happened.

But if you really enjoy this, Michigan's advertisers very much appreciate your attention.

Contract extensions are generally given before they expire. All of what is being discussed here is speculation, however the situation is pretty unique.

First, did you miss the part that he was asking about Tech? Apparently you completely missed that.

Second, we are now two days past the day that just letting Mel go because some of those were serious enough- it would have been the easy button to just not renew the contract and move on. That would have avoided all legal issues and let both parties move on. That didn't happen.

The Anderson part was dealt with in November.

So either those are barely serious, or a big nothing burger.

Ok, just keep moving the goal posts.

Had ANY of the speculation had legs, Mel would have released Saturday. That didn't happen.

The lack of action by UMi, the lack of news, is newsworthy.

Because it means that most of your speculation isn't true. You have posted about the contract would expire and he would be gone, you suggested that Blashill would be installed as coach once he was fired from Detroit, that didn't happen.

What's next?

The lack of news is newsworthy, indeed. Unless you are also changing the goalposts.

The only thing I can conclude is Manuel wants to keep Pearson but his hands are tied because the investigation isn't complete yet. So the idea that a temporary agreement has been reached is most likely. Something that gives Michigan an out if the results of the investigation reveal Mel has to go.

As shown in the tweet above, Mel is here to stay.

All the fans of inferior teams who have been trolling the thread can go back home now.
