GOP aide on CapHill: "I'm starting to think that while we're pretty good at winning elections, we're not great at the whole governing thing"

Well that one Rep said if the bill cant pass it shows they are the party of obstruction but that they cannot get anything done...so it looks like the GOP is in the midst of an existential crisis :D

Re: The PPACA Thread Part IV - Repeal & Replace, or Something...

Thought there were a dozen moderates who bailed as well, but that could also be in flux.

I doubt MSNBC had a hard count, and I doubt any of the GOP leadership were sharing that information. They probably got enough on record no statements plus some margin to make sure they didn't get egg on their face and then ran with it.

How did Fox play this story? Was it "nothing to see here, now look at these cute pandas!" or was it "despite yeoman efforts by brave conservatives the DEMON-crats have ignored the will of the people"? :p

In general, how does the Noise Machine break down now that the split has become a Mexican Standoff (Trump vs FC vs RNC)? Are they eliding the differences or have they chosen sides (it's Hannitty who crawled up Trump's rectum and lives there now, right?)

Barbara Comstock says she's voting against TrumpCare: https://www.washingtonpost.com/loca...7d9f521f6b5_story.html?utm_term=.e8c2a6c3c976

I don't know if she's necessarily a moderate per se, but she's in a district with enough of NoVa that she needs to be careful. My mom's in her district and said her initial newsletters were talking about how great TrumpCare is and how it was the solution to all of the world's problems. People (including my mom) deluged her office with calls against it, and a few days ago she said she was rethinking her stance; now she's a NO.

The system works.

As long as it's not taxing the wealthy; if you advocate that you can make all the calls you want -- the check tells your Member what to do.

7 years and not only don't they have any ideas but they can't even come together to kill Planned Parenthood and give the rich their tax breaks. Wow.

It is funny. For 7 years, they've been screaming about repealing Obamacare, and during that entire time, they couldn't even do the least little bit of work to at least have a workable framework of a replacement ready to go. Lazy, cynical, or just plain negligent?

I would have thought straight repeal, kill Planned Parenthood would have been enough. That destroys all the tax increases in Obamacare and gets rid of abortions. It hits all the high points and eliminates a theoretical entitlement. And they have the votes for that.

It must mean that some Republicans are actually nervous over those silly people in their districts who "claim" that Obamacare saved their lives. Like that's true.

Re: The PPACA Thread Part IV - Repeal & Replace, or Something...

Now let's see if Trump makes good on his threat to keep ObamaCare in place if the bill fails. Or is this technically not a failure since they didn't vote?

I think they'll go for complete ignoring of reality. The bill was voted on, it has passed 700-0!

Re: The PPACA Thread Part IV - Repeal & Replace, or Something...

Nope. Trump blames the Democrats.

House Republican leaders, facing a revolt among conservatives and moderates in their ranks, pulled legislation to repeal the Affordable Care Act from consideration on the House floor Friday afternoon in a humiliating defeat for President Trump on the first legislative showdown of his presidency.

Paul D. Ryan, the House speaker, rushed to the White House shortly after noon to tell Mr. Trump he did not have the votes for a repeal bill that had been promised for seven years — since the day President Barack Obama signed his landmark health care act into law.

Mr. Trump, in a telephone interview moments after the bill was pulled, blamed Democrats and predicted that they would seek a deal within a year, he asserted, after “Obamacare explodes” because of high premiums.

He expressed weariness with the fight.

“The best thing that could happen is exactly what happened — watch,” he said. “It’s enough already,” he added.

Everyone, enjoy your new Trumpcare plan. Much better than Obamacare.

Edit: Re Trump's statement. which means they're gonna do everything they can behind the scenes to cripple Obamacare.

This may be worse. He may succeed in ringing it around Democrat's necks and cause it to fail at the same time. After him being elected nothing surprises.

Re: The PPACA Thread Part IV - Repeal & Replace, or Something...

Can the mainstream media now stop licking Paul Ryan's a ss? "Policy wonk" and all that other nonsense. How about "impotent fukup" to describe him? Some other thoughts:

1) Its not going to work to "let Obamacare collapse on itself". Its not collapsing. In order to accomplish that, Goopers would need to pass laws restricting funding for example. Dems will obviously block that in the Senate. In the meantime, if premiums increase or the public loses insurance, they aren't going to be looking to Nancy Pelosi to fix it. They're going to be looking at Ryan-Trump-Itch.

2) I don't know the effect of this on the rest of the knucks' agenda, but its not a good sign. Basically the freedumb caucus rule the roost, even staring down Trump. When tax reform comes up, they're basically going to demand a tax rate of zero. CBO is going to kill them on the effect on the deficit. Trump's best bet is to tackle the wall next because he probably has the votes in the House fairly easily. He can't afford another high profile defeat.

Ryan listens to Papa Roach? Confirmation he's just a fratboy dooshbag.

He gave a press conference a while ago, Word was he was having a hard time concealing how bitter and PO'ed he was.
