Re: The PPACA Thread Part IV - Repeal & Replace, or Something...

(gasping for breath)

Oh, I'm sorry, I didn't realize you were serious.

Nothing will stop the GOP from cutting taxes on the wealthy. Nothing.

Yeah, but now they may not be quite as bigly as they had planned.

Re: The PPACA Thread Part IV - Repeal & Replace, or Something...

Republicans sum up today's vote using the imagery and language of a not particularly bright 15-year old boy.

According to Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-FL), some of previous no votes switched to yes in the conference, but when asked if the would have unified caucus Friday he said, “I sure hope so.”

“Or we will have the opportunity to watch a unified Democratic caucus impeach Donald Trump in two years in the majority,” he said.

He just slippery sloped this vote to say "No=Trump Impeached in Two Years". I am not sure I have ever seen that before

Re: The PPACA Thread Part IV - Repeal & Replace, or Something...

I'm not so sure about that.

If they can't agree on something they have ALL been campaigning on for 7 years, how can they agree on a reasonable tax plan? Given the moderates, I don't think all of them just want to give a tax break to the rich. And given the conservatives, they may want to actually cut the deficit (I doubt it, but one can dream). Again, second to Obamacare, the deficit and debt has been a HUGE item (to the point of not increasing the debt limit).

What deductions can they all agree on? Some want to keep their, some want a clean sheet.

I don't at all see them all agreeing.

As for making up laws- to a degree- he's been blocked on things that many claim to be purely in the President's court. And he's run out of other things to do, without working with congress. Remember, the wall isn't going anywhere without congress.

I didnt say him making up laws would work...they wont just like his racist Muslim ban. But he will try and we will enjoy watching as the courts tell him to go pee on someone else ;)

Chuck Todd just said he believes that the eleventh hour changes to the healthcare bill would drop tax savings $150B to zero while reducing healthcare for the same 24 million Americans.

Whoa. Read this and let it sink in, considering the source.

The other comments on that feed are great, too. I'll have to ask Dr. Mrs. to report in -- she's got tons of friends all over the Hill in various capacities, including a lot of Member staff from both parties*. I wonder if it's truly an unprecedented sh-tshow right now.

* One of the funniest lessons in politics I got early on was going out with Dr. Mrs. and her friends after one of the more important confrontations during the Obama presidency. I think it was one of the GOP tantrums over the debt ceiling. Anyway, we had a table with about 20 people who were senior Member staff and there was no way to tell who was which party from clothes to dress to alma mater (all Ivy except a few of the State U's in the west) to who was hitting on who. Everybody but us was under 35. This was a couple hours after the members had been spitting blood and vowing the other side was TEH DEVIL.

The lessons I learned that night:

1. With few exceptions, regardless of how stupid the Member is, their senior office (not campaign) staff are wicked smart.
2. Almost all staffers despise almost all Members with no real mapping based on party (although they generally really like their boss).
3. Everybody in DC can drink.

CNN and MSNBC now reporting that Ryan is telling Trump they don't have the votes. MSNBC whip count is 32 GOP votes against. The FC has 29 declared members so that means 3 other nos.

What an epic fail.

I wonder if it was in a rap song like in "Hamilton" when he didn't have enough votes for the National Bank. :D

LOL, Nunes. The so-called "spying" on Trump is all a total nothingburger.

This guy flip flops more than Trump. Maybe he should actually read stuff before he comments on it :D

And even with that he still says Trump was wrong saying Obama wiretapped him...that is how ridiculous Trump is.

He almost sounds like he cares about his people...he is in the wrong party ;)

So, it doesn't pass Trump is walking, right? And that means that the GOP gets to hear about Health Care next election cycle over and over and over again. Good.

Thought there were a dozen moderates who bailed as well, but that could also be in flux.

It seems the more the Freedom Caucus gets the less the moderates want to vote for it.

Found it.

In one stunning defection Friday, Appropriations Committee Chairman Rodney Frelinghuysen (R-N.J.) announced at midday that the health care bill is “currently unacceptable” and that changes made late Thursday to placate conservatives “raise serious coverage and cost issues.”
