The polls - scratching KRACH, PWC, CoP and robbery! ...---...

Re: The polls - scratching KRACH, PWC, CoP and robbery! ...---...

March 1st Bold prediction.

Hobart will win the National Championship this year.

I'll take the field on this one. They won a mediocre conference (regular season). Yes, I dared say mediocre. The difference between the ECACW and the other conferences is that they don't have {insert your league's three bottom feeders here} in their league. What has Hobart done outside of their conference? Wins over Nichols, Middlebury, Geneseo or the losses to Oswego and Potsdam? What is the win that makes you think they can win three (or four) games against the best of Div III?

I've never been a big fan of the philosophy that says "everyone gets to play", whether it be in Little League baseball or D-3 hockey. If our society doesn't reward merit, well, this is what we get... (And what we have, BTW, across the board on a national scale, and certainly not just in terms of hockey.)

To compare berthing a 47th-ranked team in an 11-team field in D-3 hockey to gifting a few bottom-feeders a one-and-done in the 68-team March Madness is to compare apples and oranges. It's really not even worth discussing; every team that has a legitimate shot at the hoops title gets in, while every single year, some sacrificial lamb from a hopeless conference will take-up precious space in the D-3 PS.

Most of the arguments I hear to the contrary are either hopelessly biased or just plain moronic. Let's just say, for instance, that Plattsburgh gets displaced by Plymouth State this year... I'll hear the girl howling all the way down here in Utica.

No, not everyone in the tourney gets a trophy. Most teams have already packed it in and are planning the next season or kegger. The majority of the field have never been to the tournament, think about that.

You are incorrect. If you win the Frontier League in hoops with a losing record (as it happens occasionally) you go to the dance. You get small schools that get hot; think George Mason and Florida Gulf Coast who go and do very well. Without the current format, no way these schools get in. You want unfair? NCAA football with the 5 power conferences is unfair to the rest of field. Another discussion for another day.

If Oswego loses to an unranked team at a critical time or is displaced by a team from a weaker conference in the tournament, I am upset with my team for not performing, period. The system is what it is. Just keep winning.

On another note, you should be happy Fishy because St. John Fisher is # 1 in the east in hoops and that tournament is getting ready to crank up. Selection is tomorrow I believe......

That's why it's a bold prediction Steve

I like what they've been doing. Looking similar to Neumann's 09 run.

Which needed Plattsburgh's All-American goalie to quit on the team to even get started....

Speaking of Neumann.....A win for them next week....My bold prediction would be "The West" stays home !

Re: The polls - scratching KRACH, PWC, CoP and robbery! ...---...

At least in '09 Neumann had NC wins over .600 teams....

A different twist on your favorite new stat (NC wins over .600 teams)....

SUNYAC finalists each have one NC victory this year vs a team with a win% over .600 (Plattsburg beat Norwich, Oswego beat Hobart)....combined total of 2.

ECAC-W finalists each have one NC victory this year vs a team with a win% over .600 (Hobart beat Nichols, Neumann beat Adrian)....combined total of 2.

Re: The polls - scratching KRACH, PWC, CoP and robbery! ...---...

After crunching some numbers, I came up with the following: Teams likely already in NCAA tourney - Trinity, Adrian, Norwich and Oswego. IF both Stevens Point AND Hobart win, one of them will win the Pool B, the other a Pool C. With Trinity already occupying one of those Pool C's, there would be only one left. Amherst, Plattsburgh and St. Norbert are in line for that spot. It should be noted that if Hobart loses to Neumann - they would likely be out of the tourney. That would open up another Pool C.

Hobart, Conn College, Williams, Bowdoin, Babson, Tufts must win the autobid. MASCAC, Northeast 10 and MIAC are champion-only. Eau Claire, Boston, River Falls and St. Thomas are done.
The Field:
MASCAC Champion
MIAC Champion
Northeast 10 Champion
Norwich (win or lose vs. Babson)
Oswego (win or lose vs. Plattsburgh)
Adrian (win or lose vs. St. Norbert)
Hobart/Stevens Point - Pool B -(both in if they win, Hobart out with a loss)
Amherst (probably in if they win at least their 1st game)
Plattsburgh (could be in if Amherst, Adrian and Norwich all win)
St. Norbert (need lots of help if they don't win)

what if Adrian, Norwich, and Oswego all lose their tournaments? who sits out?

Northeast 8, 10, ?? (aka 60 minutes and out, and thanks for taking up a spot!)

Re: The polls - scratching KRACH, PWC, CoP and robbery! ...---...

If Adrian, Trinity, Norwich, and OSU loose their tourney's, oops Trinity did. I think Norwich is in for there is a LUV fest with the Wich. Also the Western Teams lost (Adrian and St. Norbert the exception) makes it easier for the remaining but I would say Trinity since they are the new kid on the block and they aren't going to their conference final, just my opinion.
Cards 81 I don't think Oswego is a lock for a "C" bid. To much smoke in that room to tell.
Oswego '88
