Re: The Official Maine 2009 season thread:The Revenge of TIMMAY!!!

just another stat update now that we are at the break:

2008-2009 Season (39 games)
Goals For: 86 - 2.21 goals per game
Goals Against: 110 - 2.82 goals against per game
Penalty Minutes: 666 - 17.1 PM per game
Power Play Efficiency - 18.1% (41/226; 4 Shorthanded goals against)
Penalty Kill Efficiency - 85.4% (176/206; 4 Shorthanded goals scored)

2009-2010 Season to Date (17 games)
Goals For: 62 - 3.65 goals per game
Goals Against: 50 - 2.94 goals against per game
Penalty Minutes: 277 - 16.3 PM per game
Power Play Efficiency - 28.8% (30/104; 3 Shorthanded goals against)
Penalty Kill Efficiency - 79.5% (70/88; 4 Shorthanded goals scored)

At the current pace Maine would finish 2009 regular season (34 games) with:
Goals For: 124 - 3.65 goals per game
Goals Against: 100 - 2.94 goals against per game
Penalty Minutes: 554 - 16.3 PM per game
Power Play Efficiency - 28.8% (60/208; 6 Shorthanded goals against)
Penalty Kill Efficiency - 79.5% (140/176; 8 Shorthanded goals scored)

Obviously, goal scoring and power play efficiency are the major reasons for this resurgence.

Once again......all of this goal scoring must have TIMMAY's head spinning! ;)

Re: The Official Maine 2009 season thread:The Revenge of TIMMAY!!!

Maine still isn't ranked and they're still behind Union:p

Re: The Official Maine 2009 season thread:The Revenge of TIMMAY!!!

Union's only lost 3 games.

and they have only played 4 games against top-20 teams, and unlike Maine's stellar record of 2-6-1 against top-20s, Union is winless at 0-1-3

this means Union is 8-2-2 against "bad" teams and Maine is 7-1 against "bad" teams (Maine has lost to Northeastern, and Union has lost to Sacred Heart and Renselaer)

The test the rest of the way for both teams is how well they can do against top-20 teams... so far neither is any good against them and Union only gets to play 5 more games against them, and Maine has another 8 (or 10 if UVM can get back in)

Re: The Official Maine 2009 season thread:The Revenge of TIMMAY!!!

What were these specs the last 6 games? Hopefully that will be the continuing benchmark going forward to the next half of the season !

yup, as long as they do not have to play top-20 teams more than once out of every 6 games. (in the last 6, GF 4.73 and GAA 1.33)

it looks to me like the only "gimme's" are the Princeton game, the HOME Merrimack Game (MC is kicking butt at home), the Providence game and the 2 BU games, but I still would not bet a nickel on a Maine sweep at Agganis... the remaining 12 of 17 are going to be tough, and a lot harder than Maine's last 6 games.

He seemed to want to know why Union was ranked ahead of Maine. That's why.

I think the remaining schedule more or less favors Maine down the stretch run

win 3 out of 4 games against UHN and UMass combined
split with BU
lose to BC, outside chance of a tie at Conti
split with UVM at the Gut
split with UML
win 2 of 3 with MC
win one with PC, though a loss or tie down there would be no surprise.

thats 18 more HE points, and 9 more wins not including florida...that wud bring in their record just about where I projected 3 months ago. :D They do this and I think 3rd or 4th in the league is a given

3 out of 4 vs UNH and UMass is easier said than done. They're two of the best teams in HE.

Yep, they're all home games, and Maine's playing well at home this season. Plus I think one or both of those teams are likely to slump at some point. Plus the fact that the UMass series is the last one of the season where most likely points will be like gold....not to mention the fact that I would guess a little redemption for the hit on Shemansky would be in order....and what better team to take it out on than the animalz from zoomass, eh ?;) Maine can play a very physical game when called for.

Re: The Official Maine 2009 season thread:The Revenge of TIMMAY!!!

A couple of observations on todays posts!

#1 I hope rather than looking at the rest of the season the team decides to play one game at a time with the same focus and determination they have played the last 6 with.

#2 Stating that Maine has only beaten weaker teams that they should have beaten, coming from people who questioned if Maine could beat anyone, is disingenuous on their part and also pretty darn humorous:D !

#3 Polls still mean squat! All that matters is what happens on the ice and the votes will come as a result. BU was ranked #1 at the beginning of the year, how's that working for them?

#4 All this talk about coaching philosophy changing etc., is somewhat comical. Aside from a second dynamic class coming in to replace a disappointing senior class last year, the biggest change is a player that was here, Scott Darling! Maine needs to continue to get a solid effort from Darling every night.

#5 It sure is nice to have an entertaining hockey team again!

That last home series vs. ZooMass is gonna be a doozy!

I predict it will determine the #2 seed in Hockey East. ;)

Agree completely on #5, but I'll call, um, BS on #2 :)

Maine has built up a nice win streak against relatively light competition. That's true irrespective of what anyone says on some message board. Pointing out the truth shouldn't ever be controversial.

That said, I did express pleasant surprise this team has made progress to the point where they can take advantage of stretches of games like they've just had.

This is the best Union team I've seen in many years of watching them.On a given night, they can be pretty good...Wouldn't be surprised to see the Dutchies play Yale for the ECAC title in Albany early next year.

This season is wide-open,nationally.(I mean,Ferris State?)It's going to be a question of effort and bounces,IMO.I hope Maine gets both.

While I have to admit that I liked having my Bears a knee-jerk NCAA team for a long stretch,I gotta admit that it's fun to watch pretty much any game this year.Pedigrees don't mean a thing this season.

They are still an ezac team and it shows that Maine still has a way to go in order to be like the Maine of old.
I agree with all the folks saying it is certainly a lot more to fun to watch this Maine team compared to the past 2 years. In fact its a blast.

As far as who Maine has beat lately? Maine is beating who is on the schedule, can't ask for much more

I also want them to take it one game at a time, no sense looking ahead at this point. Lets go after Princeton, worry about the next game after they win that one:D

A little misleading, at the times the games were played, BU and Vermont, were ranked in the top 20, so Maine has 4 wins, 4-4-1 record against top 20 teams. They really played well in the loss to Mich St and the 4-3 loss to BC as well. Yes they lost two early games to Union, I would wager that if those two teams played right now, the results would be drastically different. The losses at UMass and UNH were expected, they rarely play well on the bigger ice surface.

A little nit picky, I know but this team has shown consistent improvement from game 1 until last Saturday's game, and I would expect this to continue in the 2nd half of the season.
