Re: The Official Maine 2009 season thread:The Revenge of TIMMAY!!!

Yeah, Nyq needs one more year at Maine. You tell your Wingz fans that :) Seriously, one more year of strength development will go a long way towards starting his career off on the right foot. They take him too early and he very well might regress a bit against the bigger stronger guys. Hell, we'll develop him for his senior year at no charge. :D

My 17-13-4 progonstification doesnt look so out of reach anymore, eh? ;)

I appreciate the input. I've heard a lot of similar sentiment and I don't think any of you guys are being selfish in wanting him back next year (the year after that, we'll have to wait and see :D ). As a Michigan fan, I've seen many kids leave school early. A lot of them are ready, but a lot aren't. And strength and conditioning may be the most common factor for those that aren't.

On a side note, it's been great to see Jimmy Howard performing so well for my Wings lately, thanks for developing him too ;)

Maine wins tonight 4-3. Shemansky has the game winner.

Re: The Official Maine 2009 season thread:The Revenge of TIMMAY!!!

Excellent win for Maine, very boring first period, typical NU, line everyone up and slow it down. NU came out and opened it up a little in the 2nd and Maine looked more at home. Shemanskys goal was awesome and Carriere hit a wide open net, Managene with a great play on the boards. NU had no answer for Maines first line, Nyquist was blowing by them all night. Darling was very steady, like to see NUs goal, he was pretty sure they were in the crease. Nice way to end the first half. Took longer than I thought for Diamond to get in trouble, got to learn to not throw the gloves off:p

He's on his way to being a smaller version of Prestin Ryan. I've never seen a penalty for Clipping. Five in a row let's keep it going down in Florida.

Time to take this Florida tourney SERIOUSLY! Princeton and CC/Cornell are HUGE PWR points!

Princeton beat Lowell so you're correct on the PWR, Maine was 20th before tonights game.
Timmay was ragging the refs up 4 to 1, I was shocked to see that

NU's goal It was a high stick over the shoulder on the deflection!

Re: The Official Maine 2009 season thread:The Revenge of TIMMAY!!!

A theme in the post game interviews is all three games between these teams came down to special teams.

Also Shemansky said it was an intended pass to de Kastrozza on his goal while Whitehead said Shemansky meant to play it off Rawlings skate.

Another CONFIDENCE Building win for the 1st half.....on another note thought the new 3rd jerseys looked sharp....didn't go by the Bear Ness. shop.....did anyone get a price for the new jersey?

were they for sale at bear necess? they are not online. if they are the actual game weight sweaters, they'll be in the $150 range, if they are simply replicas, somewhere around $70.

Finally, a positive

Finally, a positive

I have seen a few games on TV and last nights game in person and I have to say, I am impressed with one thing about this years team: anticipation.

They seem to have GREAT anticipation in the defensive zone. Intercepting passes, knowing how the other team is going to dump-and-chase and Darlings squaring to the shooter (at least last night) is all vastly improved over last year.

And the anticipation continues in the offensive zone, they cycle at the point very well, get second chances from rebounds and, for the most part, have superb tape-to-tape passes.

I really hope this sort of team effort keeps up after the holiday break!

Re: The Official Maine 2009 season thread:The Revenge of TIMMAY!!!

Yeah, good solid win last night. Thot they looked a little lazy in the first but that could have been NU....New jerseys are a vast improvement over the puke blueberries....they look a little like the Oakland Raiders of old....now all they need is silver helmets with a skull and crossbones on the side. :D

There were a limited number of authentic jerseys on sale last night for $176 (usually $210). By the time I asked about them, they were sold out. I was told replica jerseys would be available in January for around $70

Re: The Official Maine 2009 season thread:The Revenge of TIMMAY!!!

I didn't see McNeely (Captain) or MacLeod on the ice in the third period. Did I miss them? If they weren't injured then Cronin must have been sending them a message after committing penalties. NU was terrible on the PP kill. Maine was 4 for 6 on the PP. I thought Maine was a little quicker then NU and got back on defense very quickly, especially Mangene. As we all thought , if Maine got good goal tending they were going to be much better than last year. Maine has allowed only 1 goal in each of the last 5 games, all wins. This Florida trip is very important this year.

Darling is very confident right now. He made a kick save in the first that I think he would have flopped on last year and got himself out of position. It was great, I thought NU was going to score on the shot, he kicked it out of there like it was just another day.

Rawlings on the other hand, was awful. Every puck he stopped was a rebound straight out front.

You are so right. It is these non conference games that determine who makes the tournament or not. So many casual fans (not necessarily those posting here) dismiss the non conference games. In terms of PWR, they are HUGE. And given our losses to Union, these games in Florida are very important.

Maine is playing much better than recent seasons right now. If we can survive the stretch from Florida through the end of January without a slump, then we will be in good shape for the stretch run. Problem is, Florida through January has been a problem.

We'll See.

Go Blue.
