The NFL Thread, Part III: What lockout?

Re: The NFL Thread, Part III: What lockout?

Fortunately the NFL doesn't have any lobbyists or allies on the Hill that could amend that law...

Can you identify to me the legislative district without a high school or a college? That one won't budge much.

I'm sure they all do, but how many of them have football AND worry that the NFL will steal eyeballs from their sport? And how much energy (read: money) would they really expend on this?

Of course it's not going to happen, but the NFL can wield it as a threat. As far as the networks go, how likely are they to piss off the shield? Remember "Playmakers"?

That was an awesome show. Pity ESPN caved to the league and pulled the plug on it.

Re: The NFL Thread, Part III: What lockout?

Don't get me wrong, but do you really think Wisconsin needs more national exposure?

Certainly. If the choice is between the Big Ten Network at 11 on a Saturday or ESPN at 7 on a Thursday going into a long weekend, it's a no brainer. The UW football program is in a good place, obviously, but they still don't quite the A-list recruits that some other programs do. With Ohio State (hopefully) heading into the trash heap for a while, someone has to step in a get those recruits. 4 hours on national TV with the announcers talking up the Badgers can't hurt, that's all I'm saying.

Another way it helps is with the polls. Let's not kid ourselves, the people that vote in the polls aren't watching tons of games each weekend. If Wisconsin can get into the national conservation in the first weekend of college football, again, why not?

Guess who is making noises about coming out of retirement?

This is a good point, but I don't really know that one game makes a hell of a lot of difference coverage wise. Recruits know the Big Ten, know Wisconsin vs. Ohio State, etc. If a kid is good enough to be recruited by both, he can visit both, etc.

Must be Favre?

Must be. I wonder which correspondent the Mothership sends to Hattiesburg this year.

I heard the Wilf family stated they'd give him 35 million for one year..5 million bonus if he starts the first four games..10 million if he goes to training camp..if there is one..and a 15 million bonus if he wins more than 7 games..oh and if he makes the playoffs, the wilf's give him the organization.

Re: The NFL Thread, Part III: What lockout?

Apparently Roy Williams tried to propose to his girlfriend, by sending a $76,000 ring through the mail. She said no, then kept the ring. Poor Roy, always mailing it in.

They still have to outbid Buffalo for him...

Re: The NFL Thread, Part III: What lockout?

I'd imagine he's happy in retirement, but I'd be throwing money at Kurt Warner long before my thoughts turned to BrittFar.

Re: The NFL Thread, Part III: What lockout?

That's why when the lockout ends, they should keep the Bills locked out... or keep Ralph, Buddy and Chan locked out.

You do realize that you will continue to have a football team in Buffalo for about 23 seconds after Wilson dies, right?
