Re: The NFL Thread, Part III: What lockout?

Now Schefter saying the deal will get signed, either tonight, tomorrow, or next week Tuesday.

What's wrong with him? The correct ESPN-ology is "As soon as today."

Re: The NFL Thread, Part III: What lockout?

So, I hear some old dude from Mississippi might still want to play football

Re: The NFL Thread, Part III: What lockout?

Schefter will also be in Ann Arbor this fall to introduce new head coach Jim Harbaugh.

He'll make five different predictions in the space of a week and then pat himself on the back when the last one finally comes true.

Re: The NFL Thread, Part III: What lockout?

That was an awesome article.

And the time is nigh for a bet I made last year. I bet a buddy $20 that Carson Palmer would officially be on the Bengals' roster at the start of this coming season.

1. If the lockout continued, I win, since no moves could be made.
2. If the lockout ended, he'd either be on the team, or sit out (which still makes him part of the roster, although he's not playing). I win.
3. He'd get cut/traded after the lockout, which depending on how long the lockout lasted, could affect the difficulty of such a task.

I like my chances right now. And FTR, I specifically said "on the roster" and not "playing for the Bengals" as the latter COULD be construed as actually playing. Yes, our group is that competitive.

With a caveat being "at the start of the season", who wins if Palmer is still property of the Bengals but not on the active roster?

Basically, if the Bengals have his rights (we didn't discuss the Barry Sanders clause, didn't think of it), he would be considered on the roster, IMO, because no team could just "claim" him as a FA.
