Re: The NFL Thread (cont'd)

THIS is really, really pizzing me off!!

I have ZERO doubts the line started in favor of the packers because bookies know packer fans will bet their team, spread be ****ed. I have a hunch that this Super Bowl will feature one of the largest total losses on a single NFL game and the bookies know this and will exploit the hell out of it. The line became meaningless as soon as Chicago lost.

Actually, it should have started with the Pack being underdogs, since that would make Packer fans rabid with anger that their team was not favored (since they'll obviously win, doncha know). Why it started with the Pack being favorites, I have no clue.

The line is what the perception is of where the money will be...not who will actually win ;)

Exactly. So make Pack fans "mad" that Vegas deems them underdog, and make them bet more money than usual, to make them favorites/stick it to the man/etc.

Making the Packers and underdog is pretty **** stupid for Vegas considering the packers haven't lost by more than 4 points all season...

But it would bring more money in, IMO, because people like you would think it's stupid. ;)

Re: The NFL Thread (cont'd)

The goal for vegas is to get it as close to 50% on either side so they can break even on the bet and make their money on the fees...

Yeah, so bring in early Pack money (as underdogs), then as the line changes, get the unemotional money in later on. Right now, I think the line will shrink a little, if not turn into a Pit favorite, at least until the last day. I woulda opened at Pit -2.5, then would see the line end up a pick'em (and I think pick'em is where it will end up anyway).

And now for something completely different.
