Re: The NFL Thread (cont'd)

Don't care what Green Bay does. If they win, good for them, its not like it has any effect on the team I root for.

Yeah, me neither. Not a huge fan or anything. I guess I'd rather watch the Vikes win than lose, but I really don't care. Actually, I'm not sure about the last statement. They find such interesting ways to lose it is more entertaining when they do.

As for Green Bay, meh. It would be awfully tough for me to care less.

I just wish Green Bay would have lost yesterday, so I wouldn't have to put up with the Packer rubes when I'm working in Green Bay this week. As for them in the Super Bowl, I'm with you, don't care if they win or not.

Re: The NFL Thread (cont'd)

J.D., except that the flag wasn't for the hit being late but because the hit was to a defenseless receiver.

And if that is a late hit, if the QB doesn't have the ball in his hands when he's hit, it should be roughing the QB. There has to be some leeway for common sense. It was a bang-bang play.

Re: The NFL Thread (cont'd)

Fine, quibble about the terminology. Seeing it live I thought that has to be a penalty and nothing I saw on replay changed my opinion. I completely understand it's a gray area, but remember, I watched Rodney Harrison, so I'm an expert.

Be sure to ask the members of USCHO who to root for before you choose a team. It's imporant that we all become members of the Golden Gophers Arrogance Society of Doom and Bacon.

Bacon? Where do I sign up?

Bacon? Where do I sign up?

Crap, I was going to ask you for the official Scooby Half Full/Half Empty Glass and the Happy Down the Tubes t-shirt. Sigh.

The main selling point, is bacon.

Quibble? If its a late hit, its personal foul, uncessary roughness, late hit.

This is for defenseless receiver. It's for receivers who cannot protect themselves and get hit in the head with a helmet to helmet hit. Something that came into the league because of two hits by the Steelers against the Ravens sometime back.

Was he hit in the helmet? Maybe. Was he hit with a helmet to helmet hit? Did the guy lead with his helmet? Was he defenseless? The answers to all of those was no.

It was helemt to helmet, penalty all the way. He lowered his head to cream the guy and it worked.

Re: The NFL Thread (cont'd)

Last time, I swear guys.

Just watched it on my DVR. Smith not only doesn't lead with his helmet, he perfectly form tackles Sanders and not only that, he crouches to hit Sanders WHO IS ALSO CROUCHING. He does not make a helmet to helmet hit, instead planting him perfectly, shoulders to shoulders and his helmet to the side of Sanders head to avoid helmet to helmet.

Is it late? It's a ****ing bang bang play. It's not late. If he held onto the ball should he have been penalized?

I'll try to get a decent recording of it onto youtube later.

Be very, very careful betting on this game. Packer fans are absolutely NOTORIOUS for mindlessly betting their team. Watch the line carefully throughout the buildup.

No joke. See also: pretty much every Packer and/or Badger themed question in the ESPN.com "SportsNation" polls usually ends up with Wisconsin having a different color than all 49 other states.

In other news (don't know if this was posted yet, and I'm too lazy to check):

Re: The NFL Thread (cont'd)

Walker says he’s in better shape now than when he played in the NFL. “I’m a much better-conditioned athlete now than when I was playing football,” Walker said.

That doesn't say much for his work ethic as a player.

Re: The NFL Thread (cont'd)

Something we can all agree on.

tcbg and I saw that during the game. We were wondering w.t.f. was going on.
