Non-Conference scheduling is also a crap shoot. Agreements have to be drawn up years in advance. Nothing says that a big player team you create an agreement today with will be as strong as you want when you play them in a year or two. Obviously, winning helps your PWR whoever you are, but quality losses help too.

You don't think Wisconsin is a little p*ssed with how mediocre NMU is this season? Kinda like a few years back when Wisco beat us and dragged our PWR down with their mild season.

Wisconsin had it's own set of issues this year, the NMU losses are a symptom not the problem. Only scoring ~2 goals per game is the problem.

The advantage of conference games is that the "win" stays in the conference, when you lose a NC game, it drags down the RPI of everyone in your conference. More NC games are only good for a conference if they can be relatively sure of winning at least half the time.

The sad part with the new RPI calc putting less emphasis on Opp% and more on Opp Opp%, is that you are better off playing and beating the bottom teams in a good conference than playing the middle, upper end and risk losing.

Actually, the best option for the top teams are to play the teams that are near 0.500 in the strong(er) conference(s) and beat them. Paying the very bad teams, even from a strong conference, can still hurt your RPI since 21% is still Opp% if you win. The up side is that the near 0.500 teams will have a better chance of beating/tying on of the conferences top teams and thus improve your COp odds and may even sneak in as a TUC.

Of course, the irony is that if you lose you want it to be to a non-TUC from the conference with the fewest TUCs. While it will give you a hit in the RPI, it will not impact your COp or TUC records. Far better off to lose to a bottom end AH program than a middle of the road HE program.

I can't get my smart phone to copy the link from the NMU thread, but BGSU announced their WCHA schedule, and NMU has announced the fly to UAF, UAA, and UAH this upcoming year.

Sounds like there are scheduling quirks still.

I can't get my smart phone to copy the link from the NMU thread, but BGSU announced their WCHA schedule, and NMU has announced the fly to UAF, UAA, and UAH this upcoming year.

Sounds like there are scheduling quirks still.

Teams will have to do the "triple" every year. There is really no way to avoid it and maintain a balanced schedule rotation which will even out over a four year period. It's really no different than someone playing at Bemidji, Mankato and Tech. And for a team like NMU, the flight to Huntsville, if they fly from Marquette is no longer a day than a bus ride to Bemidji. And if they fly from Green Bay, no worse than Bowling Green or Mankato.

By analyzing the BGSU schedule it appears that each team in a pair will play half of each pair twice and the other half of the pair either home or away.

If that's the case for all, it would make a lot of sense. It would protect Huntsville and BG from having to go to Bemidji and Mankato in the same year as often, same for the 2 Alaska trips, or for Ferris and the Minnesotas.

It will guarantee that every team goes to at least 1 Alaska school every year, which I think would be good, because I'm sure no one wants to have a year where they don't go to Alaska, putting alot of stress on scheduling by making some years have 6 NC, others with 10. It really doesn't help much...you're looking at 2 of 4 years where you go to both teams in each pair. So in 4 years, NMU & MTU are going to play at both UAA and UAF twice.

Why are you so hung up on this "triple?" Flying to UAH is probably going to better for most teams than driving to about half the rest of the lower 48 teams.

Oh no doubt. In all actuality the two to Alaska is the same for every pair. Teams will make the trip to both Tech and Northern twice in four years and to at Tech one year and to Northern one year. Or Lake State and Ferris or Bemidji and Mankato.
