The new Super League is going down the tubes.

Re: The new Super League is going down the tubes.

Didn't we, um, just see that?

Um, no. It's true UW and UMN did not make the Final Five, but that was not known when tickets went on sale. It was also still the tournament for the league those schools were in - way different than some other league that those schools have no affiliation with. I thought a smart Auggie would know that.

I would have loved to see how that tournament would go without UW and Minny in the conference but I guess we'll never know.

Re: The new Super League is going down the tubes.

You'll have to ask him, but it might have had to do his years at Bowling Green & his National Championship while there. Or maybe he saw the move as escalating the college hockey arms race.

Either way or whatever it was, BC was a consistent player in the rumors from the get go.

First I heard about BU was yesterday.

"consistent player in the rumors" and maybe it was just as you say, rumors , because i have a hard time believing BC was ever going to leave HE to go to any new conference...........and if you just heard about BU yesterday and they weren't involved at the start of these "discussions" then that would also lead me to believe that it has no merit as it's both or none, one isnt doing anything or going anywhere without the other

You would know BC & BU's relationship better than me. BC would appear on the surface to have a different outlook athletically and institutionally than BU.

Nonetheless the mysterious "Hockey East rumors" swirled constantly and consistently over the past five months. How close or interested BC and/or BU were to making a decision would be interesting to find out.

I suspect that when the AD was told what the expected travel budget and being orders of magnitude larger than the current budget he told York, "No, not going to happen." If the league can prove that they can make enough money for BC to cover any increased costs, then BC may reconsider.

More than likely Jerry York walked into the AD's office and asked if the hockey team could explore joining the new conference, and GDF replied, "We have a hockey team?"

Another little Boston College snippet.

When DU was planning its schedule for the upcoming season they were willing to come out to Boston to play BC twice as payback for BC's 2010 two-game trip to Denver. BC said, "We only want you for one game, our fans won't come out on the second night of a series if the opponent is the same."

DU went ahead and scheduled BU on the same weekend.

Kind of surprising because DU and most WCHA teams draw better on Saturday nights and the opponent is always the same due to the travel distances of the teams involved.

Whatever the reason, BC seems to have some attendance issues for hockey and like the University of Colorado, despite being a BCS school, the football program isn't spewing out the greenbacks like the big-time football schools.

It's may also just be a different mindset. The travel distances are not as great in the east, and the teams are closer so you can a play single game and return home afterward and then play and another team on the next night.

In football, CU suffers from the common affliction known as loosing many, many games; plus, as many have pointed out many times, CO has many, many alternatives to watching a team loose in the same predictable way every week.

well, maybe but what you say here i think is true with the exception, IMO, of the hockey program especially since at the school it is an island in some respects since there is no hockey in the ACC and can more or less go unnoticed by the AD, right Priceless? but also go on independent of what the ACC and all the other sports programs that belong to it are doing . we never heard any of these rumors back here either.............. about the comment made about York still possibly being bitter about something from his Bowling Green days? well, i do not know the man but he certainly seems to me to be at peace with himself and seems to not have a vindictive bone in his body, but again, i do not know

More than likely Jerry York walked into the AD's office and asked if the hockey team could explore joining the new conference, and GDF replied, "We have a hockey team?"

lol.............he couldnt even make it to the National Championship banner raising ceremony on opening night this past season

i felt this was embarrassing to the school . go look at BC's attendance over the past 15 years. it does not have attendance problems and i believe this past year broke the record for highest average per game. if not, it was close and i think they sold out 7-8 out of 13 home games at 7884 capacity. i am not sure we will ever figure it out but to think the alumni and fan base wouldnt turnout for a second DU game is laughable to me

Re: The new Super League is going down the tubes.

Mario Lucia said that Notre Dame is telling recruits the Irish are most likely going to the Super League.

I thought this was interesting...

Roman Augustoviz said:
All three of his (Mario Lucia) prospective colleges are going to change conferences in two years...the Irish either in the super conference or the Big East.

Either Roman has the next big scoop, or he's losing it. :p:D:D
