The new Super League is going down the tubes.

Re: The new Super League is going down the tubes.

Serious question. They have the BTN in Canada?

From wiki.

Canadian carriageIn September 2008, the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission officially approved a request by Shaw Communications to allow carriage of BTN in Canada on its specialty television services. While CTVglobemedia filed a concern that it would illegally compete with its mainstream sports channel TSN, the CRTC determined that BTN would not harm TSN because of its "very niche" scope[32] BTN became available to Shaw customers on December 3, 2008. The channel became available on Rogers Cable in Ontario and New Brunswick on October 22, 2009.[33]

Re: The new Super League is going down the tubes.

Inviting BGSU to the NCHC makes them look like they are trying to do whats right for college hockey. Making sure the last CCHA team has a conference to go to. Such humanitarians! :D
Sounds more like a dick move to guarantee the WCHA doesn't have any D1 representation. I'm sure Bbutzin will tell us he'd rather play BGSU than MTU, BSU, MSUM or UAA though so we got that going for us.

I've been wondering what kind of drugs that fool is on, seriously, what ****s up a persons brain that much? Or maybe mom smoked crack when she was pregnant and he never had a chance.

Re: The new Super League is going down the tubes.

Excellent. I am genuinely glad to see two WCHA'ers stand up and say "yes, take UAH now." I'll admit, I didn't expect that.

Talk about like-mindedness... I lay you odds Minnesota, Wisconsin, UND, DU, probably CC, probably UNO... don't know about Duluth or St. Cloud... all would've voted against accepting UAH. Maybe the culture has changed/diverged enough that it is time to part ways? Dunno...

Just talking to myself here... we haven't actually talked about the internal behind-the-scenes conference leadership dynamic much. I wonder how much of a factor the WCHA saving BSU was. UND and DU might not have wanted to be in a conference with 3 (or 4, Duluth's place is a mystery to me) Minnesota small-school votes, setting them up for lots of other program-saving, and no "like-minded" Gopher program to offset/manage them. Just speculating...

That's an example of you either not paying attention, listening to what others are saying or just not having actual knowledge of the situation. Most of us leftovers have been saying that it's a travesty what's being done to Huntsville and they should be in the conference. It's NOT a good fit for most of us from a travel perspective, but we need to have all the teams and fan bases that we can.

As for saving BSU, the WCHA was the ONLY reason that BSU didn't fold. They didn't have a conference and were not willing or able to continue pumping money into the hockey program. They (as well as any other public institution in MN couldn't) were out of the CHA and didn't have anywhere else to turn.

When talking about Moorhead, I will be very surprised if it ever gets off the ground. Yes, they are in N Minnesota where hockey is more prevalent than S. Minnesota, but they have attempted this kind of drive before and it hasn't worked. The school doesn't historically have a commitment to any sport let alone raising $37 million to start a new one.

We are looking for alternatives to this situation. Like it or not, this thing is happening. Opposed to MavsFan, I don't think Mankato is going to fold. I honestly believe that we have a huge opportunity to win and that will turn into revenue. Keep in mind, our expenses WILL be raising. Not might, will. We will be traveling further and traveling for longer periods of time. Mankato proved that they will support a winner and show up to games when the team is winning. It's happened each time that Kato had a good year....granted it was in the WCHA, so it's possible there will be a drop-off, but that's yet to be seen.

Lastly, the reason everyone is so angry with you is because of the tone of your comments. You come off as self-centered, arrogant, condescending, and patronizing. It's not that you're happy for your program. It's saying on one hand that you don't care if a team fold and then on the other hand saying you care and expecting no one to ever question you. It's patronizing and it's insulting to everyone's intelligence. If you don't care, don't care. Don't sit hear and try to tell us how this is such a good thing for everyone when this obviously makes things much more unstable and much more difficult for many of us. You don't know our situations yet sit and try to tell us that you do. You've proven that time and time again by making assumptions about the market, making assumptions about costs, making assumptions about dedication, and making assumptions about affiliations with other schools. It's insulting, patronizing and deserves to be met with criticism.

Re: The new Super League is going down the tubes.

I don't think people are under the illusion of a huge boost for the Big Ten starting up its own conference. IMO, the BTN decided it needed programing and hockey was and is a logical fit. Many of us fully understand hockey has not been able to garner the ratings other sports but the potential for the Big Ten to find viewers across North America is worth its wait in gold. Now every kid in Canada and the United States will be able to tune into every Big Ten conference game and right now no other conference will be able to say that. If a recruit in B.C. decides to play for OSU or PSU their parents will be able to tune into the game. That is a advantage. Oh, sure we have heard the new conference say they will be getting a tv deal but my guess is no. Maybe a tv deal with every conference in the country but not soley themselves with a deal. I agree the new conference will do well out of the gate what I see the Big Ten is looking for the long term effect on their conference. Their philosophy has always been it is not a race but a marathon and that is why ten years from now the depth of the Big Ten will be the best hockey in the country.

This post is the pinnacle of your USCHO history my friend. You have well structured sentences; your points are clearly made and overall the analysis is pretty much spot on. I'm delighted that over the years you've evolved to make sense and express yourself clearly.

Re: The new Super League is going down the tubes.

It survived! Changed its name and ended up having a great-grandson that goes by the name "The Situation"

And to think, I used to think that Lindbergh was an asset to this country. Now.....pretty sure that he released Pandora's Box.

The latest twist reported by Bruce Ciskie is that the University of Buffalo is investigating starting D1 Hockey and is meeting with BGSU and the AHA-4.

Rumors are great during the offseason. IMO, this offseason all the usual posters have decided to stick around this summer instead of going on summer vacation. It is almost like we never had an offseason.

Re: The new Super League is going down the tubes.

After a long summer of wild speculation and off season conference shakeups the College Hockey season needs to start quickly...

Re: The new Super League is going down the tubes.

After thinking about it is Terry Pegula involved in this U of Buffalo rumor? If so look out. Done deal?

Funding Penn State was just part of his plan to ensure that Buffalo has a conference. That tricky, tricky bastard.

It's a possibility, I think. Their current building is <2000, but if he tosses them renovation money (gotta be much less than 88 million) and tells them they can play say, 4-6 home games at HSBC for their bigger name opponents, it'd be worth looking at.
