The new Super League is going down the tubes.

Re: The new Super League is going down the tubes.

nice post. Their so called plan hasn't worked out well for them either. them having to invite UMD at the last minute and now Notre Dame might not join jsut goes to show they didn't have much of a plan either. If they don't want to be in a conference with us just man up and say that instead of making excuses. The fact that D3 CC and D2 UMd are in there confernece goes to show the "like" schools point means nothing as well.

The biggest and most obvious problem that the NCHC has is that this wasn't a well thought out move/plan. They made one colossal mistake before leaving the WCHA:

A1. No one and I mean NO ONE consulted with the creator of college hockey, the light that brought college hockey out of the dark, and the One True God of all things sticks and puck......uaafanblog.

Yet another mature UND fan response.

LOL. I am sure in the end things will end up fine for the NCHC and Drop the puck will get over it as well.:D

So it's an immature UMD response then. :)

I am over being mad about all this and have moved on. If Notre Dame doesn't join and they come calling I am fine with us joining the conference. If that doesn't happen I am fine with that too. The fact that all the people on the Sioux board don't want us to join makes me laugh. People need to chill out and as Mike Tice once said "Enjoy the season".:D

I rarely go to Sioux sports message board but I would love to have St. Cloud. I always liked playing you guys ever since Garrett Larson brought back Ianazzo, Doyle and a few others back to our hometown of Park River. Those ******** threw wet toilet paper wads at me while on my 20 yr. Reunion float in the 4th of July parade. It really got the crowd going.

Re: The new Super League is going down the tubes.

Notre Dame wants seven teams and the NCHC is OK with that. The hold-up is that Notre Dame is trying to figure out all the television ramifications.

Notre Dame hockey can't make a move until they get their conference situation figured out. The Big East will force their hand and tell ND they are out of the conference unless ND brings their football program to the league.

ND (and Texas) have been in negotiations with the Big Ten, and a small tv contract for hockey has nothing to do with Notre Dame dragging their feet.

ND will be playing Big Ten hockey soon enough...

The Big East will force their hand? Is this idle speculation by you, or do you have a link showing someone with authority in the Big East saying it's all-or-nothing time for Notre Dame? Because I have trouble thinking Notre Dame would take such an ultimatum very seriously. Considering how pathetic the football teams are in that conference, they aren't exactly in a position of strength with the Irish...certainly not like the Integer or the SEC.

When FBS football goes to 16 team "super conferences" independent football programs will be a thing of the past. Notre Dame football will me mandated to join their other teams in the Big East or they will join the Big Ten.

Knowing that ND is in negotiations with the Big Ten, the Big East has already reached out to Missouri, Kansas, and K-State. They are looking east and west divisions.

Notre Dame football will determine the direction of the hockey program. I strongly believe ND hockey will be a member of the BTHC in 2014.

Re: The new Super League is going down the tubes.

That is a big prediction. We will see.
My prediction is that Texas won't join the Big Ten. How that impacts Notre Dame's eventual decision, I have no idea.

One thing I can tell you, no way in freaking H-E-double hockey sticks will Notre Dame ever join the Big East in football.

B-b-but I thought it was actually a good thing to have a bunch of crappy teams in your conference, so you can always get the autobid to the BCS? At least, that's what I've heard from a number of BHHC fans.

:)

The Big East has all the power in this situation, because ND needs a conference for m&w basketball. ND basketball brings nothing to the Big East, which is already a top basketball conference. ND is taking this very seriously....they need the BE more than the BE needs them. (for now anyway)

No...they don't. ND doesn't NEED the Big East at all...I'm sure they are happy to have any association with ND even if it still doesn't include football. As for LynahFan...the issue isn't crappy football teams...its that none of those crappy football teams are historic rivals with Notre Dame. Notre Dame to the BigTen is really the only thing that makes sense because they have rivalries with Michigan, MSU, Purdue, etc. And if ND can use its power to keep the conference schedule at 8, it allows them 4 games to play Notre Dame's other rivals, USC, BC, Navy, etc

Look at the bigger picture...not just who is crappy or historic rivalries. ND NEEDS a conference for men's and women's basketball auto bid. The Big East is not happy with ND's association because they want Notre Dame's football media market. The BE is a power conference with or without ND. The big two sports (football and men's basketball) are about the number of televisions in a market.

You're right though...if any of this was about success on the field (ND has never won a BCS bowl) or rivalries, we wouldn't be seeing the current shakeup in conference alignments.

Lets face it, ND hockey's destiny is tied to their football program and not a small NCHC TV contract. The Big Ten Network currently offers 3x the money ND makes from their current contract with NBC. Plus NBC's college football ratings are in the tank.

ND to the BTHC.

Yes, ND needs a conference...but they pretty much have their choice. Any push by the Big East basically guarantees that ND leaves for the BigTen or somewhere else. The Big East has no power what so ever. IF they push Notre Dame, Notre Dame says F off, we're going to the B1G
