The new Super League is going down the tubes.

Re: The new Super League is going down the tubes.

DG, I am beginning to think that this isn't just posturing either, it's all over the internet. I think this is why BGSU and WMU haven't joined the WCHA yet either.
If you believe the rumors Texas has five options [B12, B1G, PAC, ACC, IND], OK two [B12, PAC], ND five [IND, B12, B1G, BE, ACC], Pittsburgh three [BE, B12, B1G]. Fact of the matter is that there are a million possible scenarios and the most likely is status quo until one of the big schools makes a move. Then all heck breaks loose.

One thing is for certain. Notre Dame is not going to give up their independence unless its a compelling situation.

Anyone who thinks they can predict where TX, ND, OK & PIT will be in 2014 is a freakin' genius. There are 150 possible combinations with just those four schools.

Notre Dame won't get more money from NBC because the other college footbal broadcasts are kicking NBC's ***!
You have absolutely no idea what NBC can or will pay Notre Dame. Market forces and prestige count for way more that ratings on sports rights fees.

I do not see Texas coming to the B1G because I believe they would have to drop their Longhorn network and I doubt Delaney would let them run that with the BTN. I can see them going Ind, that whole state is football crazy, they only have 7 out of state players and could survive on TX alone.

Pitts, well honestly who cares on that one.

ND will see what the money is like mostly but it seems most alums want them to stay Ind.

If the Super 16+ conferences do occur (which may not be that much of a benefit as people think) then ND may have to enter into a conference as it could be harder to schedule games. The BCS rules may also be rewritten that any Ind needs to be ranked much higher to get into a BCS bowl which could shut them out.

Depending on the Baylor lawsuit Tx A&M may already leave this year and the B12 breaks down. This is really all about TX only being it for themselves. They do not share their revenues with others in the conf as the B1G does, so why would they start?

Texas may now be willing to share the money the keep the Big 12 together.

Now you can make your own conference. The college hockey app is coming soon.

I think this is the reason that WMU, BGSU and ND haven't made their decision as far as hockey conferences go.

Re: The new Super League is going down the tubes.

Texas won't give up the Longhorn Network. They need all the money from it to fund their future Mens and Womens ice hockey team. They will than join the super conference and demand a majority of any league revenue. ;)

Re: The new Super League is going down the tubes.

If the landscape of NCAA football becomes one in which there will be four newly formed super conferences and they hold the power (and more and more football pundits think this will be the case), Notre Dame isn't going to waste time sticking to outdated principles of independence. That is wishful thinking by an individual or two that know if Notre Dame doesn't come, the NCHC will be far more watered down (and lacking media prestige) than they hoped a few months ago.

Yes exactly but they will then go to the Pac 10 to play the Arizona hockey teams

Why exactly are super conferences a good idea? I don't understand how the pie can really grow that much to offset splitting it 4-6 more ways than the current conferences.

If BCS conferences are about to go ape **** again, you could argue that ND is banking on Texas going independent, making it much harder for the new system that emerges to leave independents out of their playoff system,
And which sports leave independents out of their playoff system, genius?

uhm, College Football is different. It's not run by the NCAA, if there were suddenly 4 power conferences, they could go pretty far towards making it extremely difficult for independents to make it into the BCS discussion.

Super conferences are not good for college football, but they will be very good for conference members. My fear is they will leave the NCAA.

NBC pays Notre Dame $9m annually through 2015. The BTN pays Minnesota $20m annually and the more teams in the Big Ten, the more fans there are watching the game = more BTN revenue for each school.

I'm not even going to respond to your second statement about brand v ratings. Wow

Curious is that $20M just from the BTN?

The BTN really doesn't show that much football as most of the games are on a major network or ESPN or VS only the less attractive games are played such as UM vs EMU this weekend. In NDs case they would attract more viewers but the other side of it also means one more slice of the pie. So you have to grow a bigger pie. For that reason I have doubts the teams go to 16+ member super conferences.

2009 revenues from television, bowl games and other rights, the Big Ten distributed $20 million per school this past year, the most of any conference in the country. That figure is projected to be $22 million next year. Of that $244 million total, $182 is from the Big Ten Network and other television deals. So no, it is not all from BTN revenue. I also didn't know what bowl revenues were shared.

the Big Ten shares ALL Bowl revenues...the question is how much more does Notre Dame make from other deals...its not apples to apples when you say Notre Dame got $9 from NBC (just football), and the Big Ten got $20 mil from everything.
