The new Super League is going down the tubes.

Re: The new Super League is going down the tubes.

You must have mistaken all of their participation banners as some type of actual worthwhile achievement. Unless being involved in one of the greatest choke jobs in recent history is now required for being an elite program, but I thought that only applied to the Gopher program of the 80s and 90s and the UND program under Hackstol.
You still don't get it Almington. See .. DU has this pervasive and insidious web of tentacles throughout the hockey world. Nary is a puck touched nor the definition of elite decided but at the hand of someone once associated with DU, currently associated with DU or for whom a future DU association is inevitable. The DU web is the Skull & Bones of the hockey world. That's what DG is talking about.

I just wanted to take a cheap shot at Miami, MN, and UND. The vast DU run conspiracy orchestrating the demise of the MN based programs improve recruiting by reducing competition to isn't of any actual concern to me as a fan of a B1G school.

Even a paranoiac has enemies. Somebody needs to put up a countdown clock showing how much longer we have to put up with this dipstick. The two most profound reasons we should all be glad for seeing UAA in our rearview are this guy and the orthopedic surgeon.

Re: The new Super League is going down the tubes.

The Saturday game against UAA was actually very good (6,000), but most of the other games were 1,000 short of capacity and suffered significant "no shows."

I think three things encouraged the Athletic Department make the move to the new conference. The success of the Lacrosse program, poor attendance against the schools you mentioned and the move to the WAC. DU wants to be a player in the Denver collegiate sports scene.

Everybody from Denver that I talk to says without a division one football program in a huge football town they never will be a part of the Denver collegiate sports scene. DU will always be a niche school.

Re: The new Super League is going down the tubes.

Traveling fanbases are not important in a league where teams fly to games and a vast mast majority of the arenas will sell out. The best rivalries are always within driving distance. Geography is important.

Miami's arena is beautiful. If its small thats not much of an issue. Money talks. ie. Big Ten

Magness sells out for elite opponents. Shouldn't they sell out every game? In Minnesota we have highschool rinks that are the size of Miami's.

Miami also has a ton of alumni in Chicago which will come in handy if Notre Dame joins the conference. Obviously a lot of the initial success of the conference hinges on landing Notre Dame.Always waiting for the prom date.

damian that should about cover it. :D

Re: The new Super League is going down the tubes.

That whole conference is based on a bunch of people making selfish decisions is it not?

Big diff. Most decisions were made for selfish reasons for the program and school. I don't know why Gwoz would dictate Miami joins...except for the outside possiblity of selfish reasons for himself alone. In stark contrast with other programs, he puts his own program at risk with pretty much no benefit for the school.

Re: The new Super League is going down the tubes.

I suspect that Duluth was added when ND wouldn't commit right away and they couldn't convince any eastern teams that adding 6 flights a year was a good idea.
UMD was needed because the NCHC needed a 6th team to make an announcement, UMD holds firm with the other MN schools and this is a totally different discussion (I suspect that we'd still be waiting for ND to make a decision to have any announcement.
True about that.

I for one will sure miss all of the incredible insight from alaska fans...
Well, what do you expect from people who can see Russia from their house?? ;)

Re: The new Super League is going down the tubes.

So when UAA fans for years and years explained the travel subsidy in weekly game threads, team season threads and etc .... you were reading "the WCHA pays for travel to Alaska"?

^^^^^ Reason #17 for good riddance to NCHC programs -- Fan Ignorance ^^^^^

Your arrogance knows no bounds. Maybe the fact that I post in our team forum for the majority of the regular season kept me in the dark from your amazing breadth of hockey knowledge. You know, that learned prognostication you laid down last year in tPB believing that since a large portion of UAA turned over your team would cease to be the largest, slowest, clutch and grab shot-blockers in the WCHA. How'd that work out for you?

As for your snide remarks about the NCHC, you sound like a jaded teenage girlfriend who just got a text message that she's getting dumped. Don't be so bitter, Donny. You'll find someone new. It just wasn't meant to be.

2 posts and both of them are just ignorant. This one is so far off base is laughable. I have actively been telling people since 2007 not to fear the BTHC because having the hegemonic massive big10 schools leave would be a good thing. And when DG and Swami started the BHHC talk here; I derided and laughed at the concept.

It is no less stupid and pointless to do what they've done today than it was a year ago. It is wholly and simply an "aspirational" decision meant to elevate those school's standing in the broader college hockey class structure. It changes NOTHING with regard to their abilities to compete the with the BIG10 recruiting machine; they got the lion's share of elite recruits before the BHHC ... they'll get the lion's share of elite recruits with the BHHC in existence. It hasn't shown any real potential to fill program coffers with money. In fact, every justification that anyone from one of the BHHC schools has used for this move has been shot down here in any number of threads.

Rather than any kind of upset about this. I'm taking great delight in it all. CC or UMD are likely BHHC bottom-dwellers and that's going to be funny. Both schools made a rash decision that I'm thinking one day they'll regret. Perhaps that won't happen. Perhaps UMD and CC will be at the top of that league every year?

UMD made a great decision and now it appears that SCSU is the one having having regrets.

Colorado College has defied the skeptics for the past 20 years. The rumor out of the Springs is that they are about to get some kind of a TV deal thanks to interest generated by joining the NCHC. Mark my words, CC's recruiting is going to get a huge bump from joining the new conference. They are going to get players they never dreamed about getting before.

Jan is not going to be happy to hear this.

According to at least one article today, SCSU coach Bob Motzko was on the final list at Western Michigan.

Re: The new Super League is going down the tubes.

Does anyone else think Damian sounds more foolish every single day? We got it pal, Motzko to WMU and CC a recruiting and television powerhouse.

Just imagine if CC and DU joined forces for hockey. They'd have the best everything in the game and somehow still empty arenas.

They really tie the room together though...

I thought CC already got top notch recruits....I guess they're 10-5-5 vs Denver the past few years despite their crippling disadvantage on the recruiting trail.

It's not a "rumor out of the springs". FFS. How much BS do you really think people here are going to swallow? The NBC/Versus deal has nothing to do with the BHHC. Quit listening to yourself when you spout this nonsense. You're starting to believe it.

I would guess he was talking about this part of the post, not the NBC/Versus part:
Also, don’t be surprised by news about this upcoming season’s Colorado College TV broadcasts in the next couple weeks. The NCHC news had generated more interest in CC over the next two seasons.

Except that Paisley's blog links to a story about the NBC/Versus part. So there's that.

And wows ... CC FINALLY is going to get a local TV deal? Welcome to UAA 1999.

And yet still no one outside AK (and I'm being generous) cares.
