The new Super League is going down the tubes.

Yes. You just cannot finish below .500 overall. Although, I have a feeling that particular rule may be changed.

Didn't they change the rule because an Big Ten school made it with a below .500 (I believe it was Ohio State a few years ago). Even so, it will be difficult to be top 13-14 in PWR with a below .500 record.

Correct. Wisconsin made the tournament in 2008 with a sub-.500 record. They were also the host, beat Denver, and should have beat North Dakota to go to the Frozen Four.

A real sore spot in Mankato. We had a better conference record, a better overall record, and a better head-to-head record, but the pairwise put us one spot behind them; they went to the tournament, we stayed home.

Happened to us (UAF) in 2009 with regards to Ohio State. Had a better conference record, eliminated them from the CCHA playoffs, and they got the last spot over us.

oh yeah, those "big name" universities - Miami and Denver - they will draw the TV audience in. NOT!

And to NMU in 2002. Beat tOSU for the 3rd place CCHA Championship game, had a better record, better head to head af the PWR put tOSU in the tourney.

UAF got in two years ago over Ferris in a similar situation.

Man, the amount of cying and rude behavior is awful on this thread. You guys are worse than a wet baby.

I'm a Gopher fan, same as Brent, and I'm just as ****ed off about all of this as the Techies are. Alvarez started ginning this all up, Penn State got the ball rolling, and teams like Minnesota and Michigan were dragged along without really having an option. We didn't have a choice once Penn State started up, but DU and UND took the initiative to bolt from the WCHA the first chance you got, and now the WCHA is going to die. For guys like me, who in addition to cheering for the Gophers, were going to remain fans of the WCHA because of the history and the great relationships formed on road trips and at the Final Five, this is akin to watching your favorite toy getting run over by a combine. So yeah, there's some hard feelings going around, even among the "winners."

Also, it seems that as upset as Gopher/Badger fans were about the BTHC forming is as excited as Sioux/Pioneer fans are about the Super League forming. We mourn the loss of the WCHA, you pee on its grave.

The Hurricanes have a pretty good national following...oh...you mean the other Miami.

Re: The new Super League is going down the tubes.

As a Ferris State fan, all of this is incredibly depressing. Ferris may not have a program a few years from now, and that is a sad, sad prospect.

Why is it so hard to Sioux and Pios fans to get this very simple thing?

The majority of Sioux fans that I have talked to, are against this Super League. It is not good for college hockey as a whole, and could very well be a poor situation for the schools going to the Super League. Honestly, I haven't seen many Sioux fans on here that are "excited" about the Super League. Most are resigned to its formation, but not pleased by it.

There's a few of us in that same boat.

It still seems strange to me that this is only going to be a 6-team league.

Until ND makes a decision thats what it will be...then who knows what will happen...

Re: The new Super League is going down the tubes.

There's word on Twitter that the official announcement of the LTHC had the University of North Dakota letterhead.

(no, this isn't a joke)

That's exactly why this seems so incomplete to me.

Who knows. Maybe Notre Dame thinks they have the (what's left of) the CCHA auto-bid all to their own.

That, and the Super League is still waiting to raid the remnants of the WCHA and CCHA. Beware of programs that do well in these next couple of years, or invest heavily in their programs, because the Super League could still easily become a 10 team league.

No way ND is thinking that except possibly for a year or two to watch any fall out. There would be an opening in either league at any time for ND with how their current program is going, the new arena and whatever is possible with the rumors of some ND network.

Re: The new Super League is going down the tubes.

Well, if they can fill their non-con full of BC, a good chunk of the B1G contingent, and a few others, they can sit in the CCHA, be in contention for the AQ, and have the best of both worlds. The CCHA is down to 7. If we're looking at 24 conference games, Notre Dame can pick up 10 non-con games against the above quite easily.
