The new Super League is going down the tubes.

Re: The new Super League is going down the tubes.

And OSU prides itself on being one of those schools that has every possible sport on the planet. They'd sponsor varsity Quidditch if it was NCAA sanctioned. The other schools like that are probably Texas and Florida.
Texas and Florida are both pretty poor examples and are poster children of whats wrong with the NCAA these days. Both schools only field around 17 men's or women's varsity programs, close to the NCAA D-1 minimum (16).

In fact both Texas and Florida don't have men's soccer teams despite the fact that 1 million or more kids play soccer in each state and both have heavy Hispanic populations.

The best examples of schools that supports tons of athletics teams are Harvard, Stanford and yes Ohio State.

Well, at least we got that straightened out.

Re: The new Super League is going down the tubes.

While ND would have been a fine addition, their demands for special treatment weren't worth it at all... glad to see hockey east is their bi+ch and not the NCHC.

5 trips east. 5 home HE series. Every home game on TV. Wants to play 10 nonconference home games.

So to recap:

Notre Dame, Minnesota, Michigan all plan on playing to 10 non-conference home games.

Assume that Sconnie & Penn State also would like to play 10 non-conference home games.

And they all would like to bring in "elite" non-conference opponents. Should be interesting to see how these schools are going to pull this off.

Re: The new Super League is going down the tubes.

They're not. It's a joke of epic proportions.

If Huntsville sticks around, maybe they can get ND and the 6 Big Ten schools into bidding wars over who gets to play them every week of October before they all start conference play. These new conferences will be the best thing to ever happen to Atlantic Hockey.

Re: The new Super League is going down the tubes.

Minny and Sconny enjoy their nonconference cupcakes so it will be interesting to see who the 'elites' consist of...

A TWENTY game conference schedule? I don't agree that dg originally WANTED Notre Dame to give the NCHC the finger, but boy am I glad they did in the end.

The Big Ten is going with a 20 game schedule... our neighbors in the ECAC have been with a 22 game schedule for a quarter century. Scheduling will not be a problem.

I think, reading between the lines, HEA ultimately wants a 12-team 22 game schedule and interviews with Bertagna going back many years confirm this has always been the conference's desire.

True, but yeesh... me personally, I love getting to see quality opponents we don't see often (UNH this year for SCSU) but that doesn't always happen. The WCHA has had a 28-game schedule since I've followed hockey, I'm looking forward to a 28-game, play everyone 4-times schedule in the NCHC and I'll live with getting to see fewer OOC games and instead get more rivalry games against squads like UND, tUMD and a new conference mate like Miami.

Scheduling 10 non-conference home games against the elite will probably be tough if there are no return trips

I'm looking at this as a great opportunity for North Dakota. Going to be a lot of very good programs looking for quality opponents willing to go on the road. Nothing toughens you up for the tournament like a solid schedule of games against quality opponents on the road or in neutral buildings.

This. ND wants 8 of 10 OOC to be at home? You may get a team like Miami into a 2 for 1, but good luck getting UND and the B1G teams to go for that. There is going to be a healthy offering of non marquee games in that schedule.

Actually, if they want 8 of 10 OOC series at home then they'd be offering 4 to 1 or offering no return. Better start up the Irisih Pride tourney.

I was responding to a criticism of the conference's 20 game schedule. It you want to debate the logic/ability to get 10 non-conference games at home, quote someone else.

Are you happy about only getting 1 series with each conference team at home every other year?

1) I don't think this is how it will work; and
2A) I don't think this is how you think it will work; or
2B) I don't think you have thought about how this would work.

I'm basing it off of this quote from Notre Dame's press release

Notre Dame Press Release said:
But the conference, which apparently will only require Notre Dame to make five trips East each season with five Hockey East teams visiting Notre Dame in the 11-team league, gives the Irish great options.

Unless Hockey East is making their schedule around Notre Dame, and other teams will have different schedules, it appears that there will be 1-2 game series each season with each of the other 10 teams in the league. 5 of which will be at home, 5 on the road.
